Y’know when it comes to choosing experience vs talent, everyone remembers that Franklin chose Clifford over Stevens, right?

You could have ended it after the second sentence and that would have been sufficient. The rest makes you sound like a troll.
You could have not said anything in this thread. Everything you’ve said makes you sound like a troll.

Coaching basketball isn’t hard. We’ve all seen Hoosiers. Four passes, don’t get caught watching the paint dry, yada, yada.
Run the Picket Fence at 'em....and most importantly, get the ball to Jimmy Chitwood at the top of the key!

Yeah, I had to look it up myself before posting. I knew that they changed it away from Heinz and I didn't want to take the board grief for not posting accurate info.

You would rob us of that most glorious of past times? Bastard.

Trace over Stevens
Huh? Stevens was Trace’s backup in 2016/17/18. In 2019, instead of starting the more experienced senior Tommy Stevens, Franklin started redshirt sophomore Clifford.

To be fair, Stevens had battled some injury issues so that could have played a role but it’s definitely true that Franklin went with the less experienced option.

I think the poster you quoted was pointing out JF has gone both ways in picking QBs. He picked the elder Trace over Tommy then a younger Sean over Tommy.

Okay, I guess. No one is questioning that Franklin - or most HCs really - will tend to favor an experienced QB. My point was that the Stevens vs Clifford situation clearly shows a willingness to not rely entirely on age/experience for Franklin.

Allar vs Veilleux for the primary backup this past season also reflects this though I don’t think many would ignore a 5* QB to play someone only with a little more in game experience.

I agree with you. I think JF has made the right decision with QBs every time. Be it the older or younger player. I don't equate Levis being drafted higher as grounds for a bad decision.

True, but you’d always wonder about it anyway. If Levis had won himself the starting PSU QB job, Sean Clifford would now be an afterthought. We wouldn’t be playing the “what if” game if Clifford had lost the job to Levis.

And, you know, here’s Clifford now, drafted and with a decent chance to stick. In a word: admirable. We used to doubt McGloin and he had more than a cup of coffee in the show. We should revel in these accomplishments.
