For me anyway, — Gumbo this time of year is kind of a tradition, making my own.
And I will be doing that for the Saints MNF game next week but where is everyone’s favorite/best go to gumbo place ??
Many places but a few that stick out are ::

Fins Seafood - Laurel
Superior Seafood - NOLA
Gumbo Shop - NOLA
Chef Ron’s - Metairie, LA
Doc’s - Orange Beach
Sea n Suds - Gulf Shores
King Neptunes - Gulf Shores
Store bought/frozen - Azalea at Sam’s Club

Harbor Seafood in Kenner
Chef Ron’s Metairie
Frankie And Johnnies New Orleans
Gumbo Shop New Orleans
Pecks Seafood Slidell
Mahoneys on Magazine in New Orleans

I’m a chicken and sausage gumbo person. Never been a huge fan of seafood gumbo.

I had an uncle who retired to Bay St Louis and married a true blue Cajun woman from La. she kept a big slow roaster pot on the counter simmering all the time 24/7. Whatever was left over from dinner tonight went into the gumbo pot for tomorrow’s lunch. She added seafood, base, and liquid as needed.

Sorry, but sausage has no business in seafood gumbo. Sausage goes in sausage gumbo. Okra also doesn’t belong in seafood gumbo. I have spoken.

Son you are in Mississippi not Louisiana. Okra is included. Once more and you'll be permanently added to the list.

If you haven't tried Blue Runner Gumbo, it's a solid canned version. Gave it a go when I was in a hurry for a work party. Was seriously surprised at how solid it was.

Jourdan River steamed in Kiln. 30m west. Great gumbo. Great food in general. Not exactly cheap. If you go to Slidell, Copeland’s has good gumbo.

I live in Hancock county aka Louisiana East. It absolutely does not go in seafood gumbo. I have spoken.

When I first got into wine the first book I ever read on it had comments in the very first paragraph that went something like this: "Always remember that good wine to you is good wine to YOU. If you like a heavy red with shrimp, or you like a light white with a steak then that's what's right for you. If you like one that has a rating of 60 and hate one with a rating of 98 then that's ok. Never forget that your taste may not be the same as others. That being said, the traditional pairings and the expert ratings are usually a pretty good guide, just don't let yourself be totally bound by them." That is really good advice, both for wine and food.

Worst gumbo I've ever had was at Walk-ons last week.

I didn't order it. It comes with the Louisiana fried combo.

That sounds incredible.

I stand with Ruckus. Seafood gumbo is no longer seafood gumbo once you add sausage. The same way chili doesn't have beans... Put beans in your chili, you now have a stew.

Damn. It's just a plate. I thought you had an artifact worthy of an Indiana Jones adventure.

I will sleep well tonight knowing the earth is still round and Lee Harvey acted alone.

^^This

Saute your mirepoix and chicken and sausage then add it all in.(seafood if have the seafood version) You can also add in some quick roux, file, and Crystal hot sauce and it's top notch.

I make a roux, then add Holy Trinity with Cajun Turkey and Sausage. Top it off with file and Crystal to taste.

No need to travel out of Gulfport for some of the best Gumbo around. IMO the best seafood gumbo in Gulfport would be at The Chimney's or Felix's. Other great options for the seafood variety are Half Shell Oyster House, White Cap, Captain Al's or Lil Ray's. Lil Ray's has two locations in Gulfport and Long Beach.
Patio 44 has some of the best chicken and sausage gumbo around if that is your style. Enjoy your visit to Coastal MS!

That said, its prolly been 20 years since I've had seafood gumbo from Mother's.

I haven’t been to mothers in years. Always too much of tourist spot and a long *** line and there is great gumbo everywhere in Nola. Speaking of mothers they are known for their ferdi but I would put Frankie and Johnnys up against theirs any day.
