What corporation would buy naming rights for MSU athletics?

Back in the day, 1970's- 2003 it would have most definitely been Mississippi State Bryan Foods Big Dawgs. They made an item for Foodservice that was called Super Dawg. Most of you SPS guru's know it as the dawg served at the Hump.

Our maybe the Juicy Jumbo's ....
Those made an awesome dinner for a grad student.

I know this is a joke, but State and Ole Miss really are at a disadvantage here with being the only small state along with Alabama that have two SEC schools (Vandy doesn't count for Tennessee). What in-state business wants to commit that kind of money for naming rights at State or Ole Miss and risk antagonizing a third of its customers? LSU likely could sell naming rights to someone like Hancock Whitney. Alabama could probably justify it by being a national brand and then once Alabama is sponsored, I think it'd be safe'ish for someone local to get naming rights at Auburn. UT is fine by itself. UGA is fine by itself. Maybe some FSU people will care about sponsoring Florida, but it's a big state regardless that's already fragmented. Still probably good bang for your buck advertising. Same for A&M and UT I think. Don't think Oklahoma is going to be hurt by people worried about OKSt. I guess Missouri wouldn't have any major in state opposition to a local company buying naming rights? Not sure about the dynamics with UK and Lousiville and USCe and Clemson. Maybe being in different conferences makes it easier for an instate business to buy naming rights?

Hard to say how all of this works and what the strategies and pay out calculations look like. Kroger(s) is the odd one for me. How/why did that come about?

Not to mention all the big MS brands end up selling. I know most of these listed have been jokes so far but these are the biggest possibilities:


Of that list, who has the biggest need to sell shlt to middle class fans? Southern Tire Mart I guess, CSpire, the banks I suppose, maybe the casinos. But of the companies we have, most market nationally.

This new system of player-payment is just a totally uphill battle for us. We are going to have to get innovative, like maybe an across the board NIL contract for all players, that maybe gets higher as you stay longer or something.

Why not national brands then?

Farmers Insurance and Pepsi.
Wells Fargo and Citi.
Toyota and Microsoft.
etc etc etc.

Would people really not buy a Toyota or switch to Apple just because MSU or OM is sponsored by one of those brands?
And if the argument is that MSU or OM are too small or in an insignificant state, I am not sure those arguments would hold water. Both teams play all around the country and are on national TV all the time. Thats the exposure element.

Y'all are missing the obvious. DP already uses our NIL in their fansville commercials. That's our partner.

Bryan Foods had a distribution center in Aberdeen, I would go by and buy a case of Super Dawgs and keep them in the freezer. Those were some fine tasting hot dogs. The Super Dawgs and Bryan breakfast sausage are the two things I miss most about Bryan Foods closing.

If they were the 2-1s (8oz per piece), some of us in FS distribution called them “Home Wreckers”.

Kroger’s headquarters are across the Ohio River in Cincinnati and they have over 100 stores in Kentucky.

Probably should have been more clear in my point. Well aware of Kroger from a number of personal angles and was responding to the question about alienating fan bases like State/OM and J86 also used UK/UL as a one example.
The "Kroger brand" is in a lot of states and it always struck me as odd, or maybe a better word is interesting that that's the stadium it went on. Wouldn't have thought twice if it had been UC, that good corporate citizen thing and all.
I have no idea what goes into these decisions but seems alienating fan bases, at least in this case, wasn't a big concern.
