The write-up on Jordan Davis from Yahoo! Sports:

"Leapfrogging the Ravens (a team heavily connected with Davis), the Eagles miss out on a receiver but land this draft’s unicorn. He’s a dancing bear with rare athleticism for a man this massive. Can he rush the passer? Play more than 30-35 snaps per game? We don’t know. But the Eagles haven’t had a player like this in recent memory. This is a boom-or-bust pick, but we feel pretty good about it. This can change the way teams attack the Eagles dramatically."
My initial reaction to the Davis pick was negative. But give Howie credit for having balls and going for it. Was a lot to give up to move 2 spots, but recognize those lower picks were not going to be impact players. AJ Brown is just a huge get. Still ecstatic over that move.

Same thoughts as you. A great night which means something will certainly go wrong. Lol.

The Birds are on the clock for their 2nd round pick (#51). Come on Howie, don't overthink things. ;)

The Eagles select Cam Jurgens (Center, Nebraska).

Not a position I would have focused on. Oh well.

Interesting. Seumalo always seemed to be the heir apparent to Kelce. Wonder if he’s now the RG of the future

agreed. Seumalo did seem to be the one that would become their C when Kelce called it quits. With Herbig's development last season, and Dickerson playing very well at LG, I didn't think The Birds would pick an IOL guy in an early round.

The Birds draft in R3 Nakobe Dean (LB, Georgia).

I like this pick

Holy smokes, they still got him. injuries scare me bit but they also intrigue me. Couldn’t get a good read on his measurables and testing numbers because of the nagging injuries. But he was THE LBer on the best defense in what, decades??? And in the 3rd? Yeah, good pick here. Very good.

I love this pick! Love it! There’s huge upside and limited downside in round 3.

I guess somebody has to be the “glass-half-empty” guy.

The first round guy takes plays off, according to a couple of talking heads, and will almost certainly have a weight problem. The WR, ok, needed another and since they seem to have a problem with scouting and drafting the position, they do the deal. The C doesn’t help this year but I can see that Kelce can train him, so Ok. The LB is on the small side and has had some injuries.

No Safeties or CB, areas of major needs.

Hope I’m wrong.

Eagles also had needs at interior DL, LB, and WR. They can't address every need with just 4 picks.

The Eagles basically got 3 1st round picks yesterday and today. Plus the center that Kelce thinks was the best one in the draft. Not a bad haul.

There isn't a player in the draft that doesn't have some question marks. Even with the No. 1 overall there were questions about his lack of production in college.

I was shocked he fell that far. How bad could this mystery medical report be??? I'm glad they took a shot.

From what I read, it was a pectoral strain that multiple doctors suggest he get fixed surgically but he didn’t want to. I HOPE it was because he wanted to play through it and not that he was scared to get it fixed. Saw that the strain precluded him from doing a full workout at the combine and his pro day. Plus I saw he had some shoulder issues in school as well. I think pair that with his size (5’11”, 230, kinda on the smaller size) and I think that helped his fall.

But I ain’t mad. Dude looks to me to have explosive speed (not fast fast), and has all the smarts to run the middle of the D. I’m SUPER happy about this pick.

Good find. Yeah I listened to his presser and (@GregPickel further clarification) apparently he strained it in draft prep. Also had no idea he went to school for mechanical engineering and had a very good GPA. He’s a smart dude which excites me about his defensive QB abilities.

Here’s Fran Duffy and Ross Tucker talking about him after the pick. Take note of the superlatives that they cite draft experts. I tell you, the slide put a chip on the shoulder of an already great, game-changing player. I love the quote “he’s THE alpha dog in a pack of alpha dogs”. I’m trying to temper my expectations but this dude could be a defensive culture changer. Incredibly cerebral player who is said to be undersized and has every leadership quality you need, with a huge chip on his shoulder. Reminds me of a certain Clemson safety drafted 26 years ago that now owns a gold jacket….

Sometimes it seems GMs hear injury talk and are afraid to be the guy who gets played for a sucker even if the injury rumors aren't accurate. That's the nature of the beast during the draft. At what point does a GM feel the potential outweighs the rumors?

And when it comes to evaluating players, me as a Joe average fan has to scratch my head when I hear some of the terms GMs use. For the past few years a common one was "length". That DL has good length. The CB has good length. I'm not sure what it means. Arm length? Height? No clue. This year I've seen evaluations which praise a guy for being "bendy". Maybe that'll be the new buzzword to replace "length".

Length often is a combo of height, arm length and vertical jump. The NFL loves tall CBS who can jump to 12 feet and knock away passes.

The Eagles have long been a “build along the lines” franchise. They’ve also been a better to draft a replacement a year early than late team.

There are pros and cons to these moves, sure. But Cox is leaving in the next year and they go from six-time Pro Bowl DT to question mark there. Having Davis in the fold give them a chance to maintain DT as a strength. Same with the Center.

I really thought they’d draft Johnson at 13. But I don’t think a DT with elite athleticism is a bad choice at all.

Being in the 3rd round, I think Dean is mostly upside. If he plays, he’s likely a huge upgrade over what they have at LB now. Huge.
