The Jaguars are getting the ball rolling on their head coaching interviews with a Super Bowl champ.

According to multiple reports, the team will interview former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson on Thursday. Pederson went 42-37-1 over five seasons in Philadelphia and won Super Bowl LII, but was fired after the team went 4-11-1 in 2020.

Doug is too good a coach not to get another shot this off-season. My question is does he really want that chance to be in Jacksonville? Lawrence is a good prospect, but that’s a huge rebuild job. Places such as Minnesota and Las Vegas are closer to contention, I think.

Would be a slam dunk hire for them. Players coach (which they need culturally after the mess they had), a great developer of the QB which Lawrence needs. Douggie on the flip side needs leadership that takes a bit more of a hands-off approach (I think this is what drove him crazy on the eagles). Shad Khan USED TO BE hands off although i've seen that he recently went a bit more hands on with their coaching history (and that was BEFORE Urban and his.... stuff). If Kahn continues to be hands-on, that might scare Douggie away. Maybe he has enough wasta for Khan to go hands off? i dunno, but i'd REALLY like this hire for them.

I may be splitting hairs here, but where do you get "great developer of the QB" with Doug? I think he was at least partly responsible for the Wentz fiasco. In KC, I'd say Andy Reid was by far the most responsible for drafting and developing Patrick Mahomes.

Doug is a very good coach and the Super Bowl win speaks to that. He and his staff get credit for 2/3 of a great 2017 season with Wentz, but the bulk of this tenure in Philly had less than great QB play. That was his ultimate undoing.

I'd guess the Eagles would use the week to sit some guys and get healthy. The best case scenario is they can move into the #6 seed if they win and other things fall their way. Moving from #7 to #6 may be a very small advantage but getting players healthy would be even better. OTOH, there is a slim chance the Cowboys could jump back to the #2 seed if they win and some other things fall their way. Moving from #4 to #2 would be a big deal for home field in round two. It makes sense they'd play their starters until the game is in hand then hope for the best on Sunday.

Doesn’t matter eagles kick their butts no matter who plays

Win or lose this Sunday, it’s nice to see Siriani in the coach of the year chatter. Unlike many other candidates, he didn’t have a slew of injured stars come back or an Aaron Rodgers or Matthew Stanford to lean on.

Nick took a weak roster with a ton of dead money coming off of a 4-11 season to the playoffs. It may be one of the better coaching jobs of the past 10-15 years.

not to mention his early coaching philosophy leading to a 2-5 team, then adjusting a ton and leading the team to 7-2 heading into week 18. on top of everything you mentioned, i mean.... if that doesn't deserve some serious coach of the year consideration

while I agree with some of this, I disagree with some of your premises. The Eagles did have alot of injuries in 2020, only 1 out of 5 OL starters made it thru the season, let alone several of the skill guys. But because they played those young guys, good things happened. Now it took him several weeks to figure out the strength of the roster.
But that all said, I like your thinking, I'd rather give COA to somebody that actually had to coach, as opposed to somebody who just have to throw the ball out and let them play (Green Bay)
you homework is to compare and contrast the Eagles and PSU to what each needs to do, or did to fix their team.
to me it is clear, the Eagles fixed their OL, have huge depth there and are now in a position where playing a game with 2 third team OG does not cost them a game. (LG 73, Dickinson, a boy named Sue, RG BB, Driskell, Nate Herbig on the all NFL worse body team (sp?)
I think PSU needs to fix their OL/run game

Since we're all rooting for a Colts loss to the Jags, here's an interesting scenario.
If the Colts lose, the Raiders and Chargers both clinch with a tie - and they play each other.
In theory, they could both take a knee for 70 minutes. There's a part of me that would be very amused by this.
I may have to bet the under just in case.

I agree with this. Defense, defense, defense….playmakers needed at all three levels. DE is a critical upgrade. CB and Safety too. Getting a stuOLB with a 1st or 2nd would be huge. They’ve lacked athleticism there since Bradham left.

They need another viable WR and a capable #2 TE as Goedert hasn’t played an entire season healthy yet.

Dropping the Wentz dead money should open free agent options too.

FYI fc

he Eagles have picks 15 and 16 as well as their own choice, which won’t be determined until their postseason ends.
