I never thought the Georgetown mentions would come to anything.Shrewsberry not to Georgetown. Must be the cost of housing.
Cooley hired to lead Georgetown's 'new chapter'
Georgetown has named Ed Cooley the new coach of the Hoyas, seeking a turnaround from the doldrums the program endured under Patrick Ewing.www.espn.com
I have said it too many times about this years squad...the lack of just an average big guy, a post guy that could get us 4 baskets a game...ugh! A kid like the the Wisky kid, Kroll?, and we are still playing. Not only that....go back a look how many games we would have won this year. Texas was able to put a long, athletic 6-8 guy on Pickett, challenge all of his shots, and not have to double-team. You can't rely on making 3's every single game, even if they are wide open shots. There are games where you have to get points on the block...Harrar is here and we are FF good. The missed threes, everybody has them. A team will get maybe three, five uncontested threes (my definition: two seconds to shoot) a game. You’ve got to make them all. I saw quite a few head-shaking misses these past few days. You got to make your threes. I still dream about several extremely makable missed shots that would have won a championship. Sports.
And buyouts are written into all coaching contracts nowadays.
Can't say whether Iona cares about losing Slick Rick, but his buyout is ZERO.It is absolutely true. Just look at Pitino now with the SJU coaching gig. Do you think Pitino gives a sh*t about his contract with Iona? And guess what, Iona may not care either. Iona is probably looking at the coupla million that SJU will have to give up to Iona to buyout Pitino's deal...
Attaboy.Shrewsberry not to the NFL either. Evidently, goodell’s got this (and a lot more).
Sources: Goodell expected to receive new deal
Roger Goodell and NFL owners are expected to finalize a multi-year contract extension for the commissioner at next week's owners meetings in Phoenix, league sources told ESPN.www.espn.com
SIAP:
I have no doubt Kraft understands the importance of retaining Coach Shrewsberry, but it's not entirely his decision.Kraft can’t afford to lose Shrewsberry. It would be a bad start to his AD career at PSU, a defining moment really. I think he knows he needs to step up now. We will know soon enough.
I have no doubt Krafy understands the importance of retaining Coach Shrewsberry, but it's not entirely his decision.
Yes but Joe came from a different generation and was from a different time. Times change, not alzways for the better.
There were good and bad people in Joe’s generation just as there are good and bad people in every generation. Some people make all their career decisions based on money and some people don’t. Nobody knows what’s important to Shrews except him.Yes but Joe came from a different generation and was from a different time. Times change, not alzways for the better.
Love this reference!! Pass from Bilsky or Wohl? Corky Calhoun? Could be mixing teams and years. Phil Hankinson just popped into my head. Loved those Penn teams and the Palestra doubleheaders. While watching the missed shots I kept telling myself that Bobby Morse wouldn’t have missed.
Thank you captain obvious.I have no doubt Krafy understands the importance of retaining Coach Shrewsberry, but it's not entirely his decision.
7:07 tip. My dad worked at General Electric Re-Entry systems division at 31st and Chestnut; we’d drive to the games from Levittown, park in the GE lot, and walk to the Palestra. He was a Villanova fan, I lived and breathed Penn.Love this reference!! Pass from Bilsky or Wohl? Corky Calhoun? Could be mixing teams and years. Phil Hankinson just popped into my head. Bilsky and Wohl were magicians at drawing charges. Total BS but it worked for a while.Al Meltzer…. Ch 17 on tv… loved the Big5 games…Wohl was my favorite
Good list. I’d have Cannon higher. Michael Brooks won NPOY, as I recall. This link will bring back some memories of the great Big5 players:

I can remember some great games with Howard Porter against Kenny Durrett. There were so many great many big men though the years. Easy Ed Pinckney was one that comes to mind. The game was different back then. It was real team basketball. The Palestra double headers were intense.Good list. I’d have Cannon higher. Michael Brooks won NPOY, as I recall.
It was great basketball. I’m a Hoya first and foremost but the Big Five did beat Georgetown in a championship game. That’s something to be proud of. My dad graduated Hoya and definitely did not share this sentiment. On the flip side, the day before he died he told me that Kenny Durrett against Western Kentucky was the greatest performance he’d ever seen.I can remember some great games with Howard Porter against Kenny Durrett. Care to explain more?? What are you hearing?Sooo it seems like the Success With Honor collective is a big roadblock to keeping Shrewsberry. Just not getting the job done on the NIL front…
Apparently Shrewsberry had a Zoom call with the donors and Success With Honor and Anthony Lubrano commandeered the whole meeting, cut off Shrewsberry a couple times, made it about himself, and said, as a BoT member and co-founder of SWH, getting the NIL money Shrewsberry wants is essentially not feasible because they want to spread it out among multiple sports. I wasn’t on the call so I don’t know all the details, but the whole thing apparently left a sour taste in many people’s mouthsCare to explain more?? What are you hearing?
