Apparently Shrewsberry had a Zoom call with the donors and Success With Honor and Anthony Lubrano commandeered the whole meeting, cut off Shrewsberry a couple times, made it about himself, and said, as a BoT member and co-founder of SWH, getting the NIL money Shrewsberry wants is essentially not feasible because they want to spread it out among multiple sports. I wasn’t on the call so I don’t know all the details, but the whole thing apparently left a sour taste in many people’s mouths
Thanks...but I still think he stays. ND is actually tons worse with NIL cash and accepting porta.l kids. Shrew has it better here in that respect...IMO...what do I know!

Anthony posts here once in a while, and I would like to hear his side of the story. While I could see him wanting to spread the money around, I would not expect him to commandeer the meeting and make it about him.

Supposedly SWH is geared towards spreading the money across all sports. FB and hoops need their own NILs to maximize donations and utilization. I've read elsewhere that SWH was kind of NIL 1st gen and the recent NIL rules and law changes have made it somewhat obsolete.

I’m just relaying from people who were part of the meeting.. They are not happy with him and feel that if Shrewsberry does indeed leave, the reason will be because of NIL and SWH’s porous fundraising for basketball. I mean, the collective was MIA throughout the entire run down the stretch in the regular season and in the B1G Tournament

What is that supposed to mean? Specifically.
They had no social media presence or fundraising initiatives until the team was already in the NCAA Tournament. Huge missed opportunity during the stretch run and B1G Tourney run. They should have been on a full court press (pun intended) during those crucial 3-4 weeks. Instead, they barely made a peep

A meeting like that with all of the disparate interests and responsibilities represented is a recipe for disaster. Where was Kraft (or one of his key lieutenants)? I'd never let a coach go into something like that without support.

Welcome to doing business with La Cosa Belzer.

The entire post from PSUJD makes no sense.

SWH About – Success With Honor is the NIL Group run by Mark Toniatti (a former exec at Towers Watson) - reportedly founded by Ira Lubert (former PSU BOT Chair), Rick Sokolov (current PSU Trustee, very active wrt PSU fund-raising), Bob Poole (State College based developer), and Anthony Misitano (Health Care executive) - and has a large advisory board (some there primarily for their "name", and some that are players in the whole sports-industry field)
(Art: I think Toniatti replaced Belzer - but that is OTTOMH, and I couldn't swear to it)

But Anthony Lubrano "commandeered the meeting"? Something doesn't make sense.

And Shrewsberry was in a zoom call with donors - stumping for more NIL money for basketball players? Hard to imagine Schrewsberry being that indiscreet vav NIL, but who knows?

"I’m just relaying from people who were part of the meeting" Sounds more like someone with an agenda - either directly or through a proxy - is trying to spread swamp gas.

Agree to a degree. The scenario, the meeting, its purpose, the participants, doesn't make a a whole lot of sense. But we're dealing with a university and universities love their meetings and the more, both in terms of frequency and paricipants, the merrier. I've been in similar gatherings outside of educational settings, so it's not entirely incredible.

The meeting was to give donors a lay of the landscape. The program needs ~$1 million a year to just stay competitive in terms of making the tournament. Also said they would not have gotten Pickett today with what they have (he came two years ago before NIL exploded).. Told the donors he’s pretty happy with facilities but that NIL is his top concern. Lubrano is on the call because he’s a co-founder of Success with Honor, a BoT member and a donor. Believe what you want, but NIL is a major issue for basketball right now, and the old guard who thinks we can still run athletics on the cheap is a roadblock in getting this program to where it needs to be

Lubrano is not a co-founder of Success With Honor. He and Jay came late to the game after Lubert and Co laid the foundation.

So what was the objective of the meeting? Given all of the moving parts there probably wasn't one. A hyper-inflated ego loves a void which is why Lubrano was able to hijack a meeting in which he shouldn't have been a participant to begin with.

My question remains: where was Kraft?

Completely untrue. You should check with Adam Miller who was on the call. At no time did I ever suggest such a thing let alone commandeer the call.

By the way, SWH has supported basketball to the satisfaction of Coach Shrewsbury.

Why are people making this up? SWH has done a horrible job of supporting.
I am making up nothing. Get the facts before you start running your mouth.

All I know is what I can control.
If Coach moves on, okay, I can’t control that. My family is a PS family, I’ll just concentrate on my business. I donate to PS regardless, the money for athletics will just go for education. I thought our BoT sucked 40 years ago and still do.

Folks, this thread is about PSU MBB. And I'm sure many are frustrated that Coach Shrewsberry appears to be headed to ND. And others are frustrated with PSU's NIL.

I get all that. But let's stop with the name calling, and I really don't care about what happened, or what was said, in recent call between with donors that seems to have been the focus of a number of posts this afternoon/early evening.

3 incoming freshmen decommit, 5 current freshmen enter portal…we have zero basketball players. Either Kraft was clueless about the importance of keeping Shrews - which he should be fired - or this is intentional attempt to eliminate men’s basketball at PSU. Might as well finish the job and drop the women’s program too - they really haven’t existed for quite some time anyway….

Without being able to compare offers, it's impossible to say that Kraft failed. And even if PSU were on the lower side, his hands may have been tied.

Or maybe Shrews, as an Indiana native, really wanted to coach at ND or somewhere in his home state. You can’t outbid based on location.

This is not the case. Everybody with intimate knowledge of the negotiations and process has said this is not the case.
”Indiana” is simply a cop out talking point to cover for the failure of those who were tasked with providing the type of infrastructure and support needed to keep Shrewsberry around.

But maybe Tom deleted those posts too so his little buddies don’t look too bad facing accountability for their own incompetence.
