CJ Gardner-Johnson is still out there. That’s not good for him. I think we are learning why the Saints traded him for a song last year.
Heard this AM the safety market is really soft. The best contract has been Jesse Bates but even he didn’t get the block buster people thought. So I think there’s still a chance to resign him

Agreed. The proof is in his twitter posts. Perfect example of what drama will get you. But man….. he’s great on the field. And that drama fuels him. It’s an enigma.

The theory that he wants way more than being offered seems most plausible. The real question is why? Are teams devaluing Safety play or is there something with how G-J is handling himself?
It’s not just him. I think it’s supply and demand. I think there’s more good safeties out there than jobs. Or teams figure they will draft one cheaper

Interesting

kinda saw that with the "disrespect is real" tweet and delete. the safety market as a whole right now is soft. dude's a gamer, but he's also drama, which drove his cost down.

MIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT wanna be looking for new representation. one of his agent's jobs is to be the level head while his client can be as crazy as he wants (within limits). Without knowing the inner workings, sure sounds like he told his agent he felt disrespected and wanted more, and his agent went along with it instead of knowing and evaluating the market to best advise his client.

hey, now we get to see Blankenship in extended time. Roob is sold on the kid. i'm interested to see how this effects the draft now. Latest i've been seeing is Brian Branch is the only safety most have 1st round rated. Wouldn't be surprised to see them take a DE/DL at 10, then take their 30 and trade back to let someone come up into the first, while they can grab Tig or Antonio Johnson in the early second, then go CB with their late second. I'd love to see a drafted S, don't get me wrong, Adrian Amos and maybe even Eric Rowe are out there to be had to provide veteran leadership for not too much $$. I think we gotta have a vet at some point. While I like Blankenship, that's a lot of eggs in that unproven basket.

looking now, and while it's a projection, there are projected to be 4 safeties in the first round next year by some sources. stop-gap with Amos or Rowe on a 1-2 year deal with the plan to draft one next year? what else would they be close to needing next year? on the OL, have the C of the future but maybe need a RT? on the D, have 2 young DTs and a few young DEs with whatever they draft this year. need wise, I can't see much going forward.

I don’t see the Eagles bringing back Eric Rowe. There was something they didn’t like the first time

Or CJ got that advice from his agent and didn’t listen. 🤷‍♂️

Safety is a much easier solve than starting CB. The free agent market bore that out.

Howie will address Safety. It will just take time. I’d look for another stop gap to your point and then a draft pick to try and find a longer term player.
