Eagles don’t put a premium on the OLB spots. I think they expect Dean to take one spot and they’ll probably pick up one fairly cheaply like they did with White.

Agree. However my concern is without Epps, they need another S that can play the hybrid LBer position. CJGJ can, but who plays center field?

Javon Kinlaw did not pan out like the Niners had hoped (partly because he was injured too often, but also partly because he simply did not play up to his draft status), so getting Hargrave is a plus. It not only adds him to the Niners but subtracts him from the Iggles. I like it.

As for the OL, the Niners can still bring in someone to replace McGlinchy, who signed with the Broncos. They will have the cap space if it is a free agent. Or they can hopefully draft a decent offensive lineman, although their first pick in this year's draft is at No. 99 overall.

Aren't Eagles fans at least a little disappointed to lose Hargrave?
Very good player. 2/3 of his seasons in Philly were good ones. This last one was a bit of an outlier. I’d love for them to have kept him. For $22 million a year long term, they had to turn it over.

When looking at their moves, a trend is emerging. They resigned Bradberry. So their immediate needs at CB shifted. That may free them up to go DT or DE at #10 overall. Same with #30.

The draft picks aren’t guarantees to your Kinlaw point, but you have to try there. Especially at premium positions like DT and DE.

There was smoke about them trying to move up to get Carter. If they don’t need a DB, maybe package #10 and #30 to move up?

I've thought CB and DE/DT for a while. with CB seemingly taken care of, i think Safety and DE/DT at this point in the first, with LB in the second.

With Bradberry back, i'm not mad. got younger, and Bradberry was more consistent over the season. Plus get out from under the full cap hit of Slay (from 26.1m to 8.6m). That provides almost 20m for use elsewhere (hopefully CJGJ)

EDIT: I wonder if this opens up the chance that he comes back at a cut-rate deal a la Cox last season? If I remember correctly, they released Cox and he came back on a 1 year deal. Maybe this was Howie calling Slay's bluff and now that Slay couldn't find a trade partner, he realizes his value isn't as high as he thought

I dont think Slay is looking to go cut rate, I think he wanted even more.

Agree. I think he WANTED more, but I don’t know if he’s going to see it the way he fell off the second half of this season and is 32.
from philly.com.....

The Eagles approached the 32-year old about restructuring his deal, in light of their salary cap issues, but he wanted new money and additional years, sources close to the situation said.

His agent Drew Rosenhaus was given permission to shop Slay to other teams, but when the Eagles were neither able to find a partner or come to agreement on a restructure, they began their pursuit of Bradberry.

The Slay release news now puts CB back into the mix at #10. I'd LOVE to see them nab Carter, but I think they need two first round additions more than Carter at DT this offseason.

Pride will throw a wrench in that. Sadly. I think CB at #10 is a good move. They need to play beyond 2-3 years with Bradberry anyway.

Carter? IDK he couldn't get thru his pro day workout,'cramps' gained weight from the combine, those are flags, imo

Good Luck Miles! Eagles went PENNY pinching. Just like the Phillies post 80 WS fire sale. The Lions will see a SB before the Eagles now.
LOL. I’d say the Eagles are moving heaven and earth to retain as many guys as possible. The math behind the salary cap makes keeping everyone and paying a superstar young QB impossible.

4 years 25 millon cheaper
And while counter to all we know about Howie, they may try to grab a RB at #30. There will likely be a guy or two available for almost a 2nd round pick.

With Slay and Bradberry back, they have flexibility there. Go DL at #10 and then see where the chips fall.

As long as he stays healthy which Philly QB's have a history of not doing.

Probably a combination of the Eagles wanting to keep him and Slay finding that the market on a 3-year contract for a 32 yo DB is pretty soft.

I had a sneaking suspicion that when Slay wanted 3 years at 32 years old, howie said no way and while allowing him to seek a trade shows Slay that Howie had his best interest at heart (which a player can respect and admire), Howie really knew the market wouldn't support what Slay wanted. Especially after a down second half of 2022. Let him seek a trade. Let him see that he's not gonna get what he wants. Release him then offer him less to come back. Howie doing Howie things
