Gotta wonder how many more games like last night Girardi can weather. His mismanagement of the bullpen is killing this team.
Front office made their own bed with the defense, it looked bad on paper in March and its as bad as it looked.
Something is seriously wrong with the inconsistent offense.
New faces in 2022 and yet this team is a replay of last years group.
IMHO Giardia is gone by 4th of July.

imho it is NOT "second-guessable" nor Girardi mismanagement when every single arm out of the bullpen performs in the same manner and with the same lack of success 🤷‍♂️
...except Seranthony...to be fair we must concede that he has certainly pitched well.

I think I’ve officially hit the not going to watch point already. Sad. But the last two nights have been pathetic.

I’ve been a Phillies fan for over 50 years. Most times, being a Phils fan is like those people who cut themselves. This team will be lucky to finish.500 and Girardi gone by all star break.

You're starting a 3 game series against a Mets team whose starting pitching is hurting. Great opportunity to make up ground.

it's not even the All-Star break. Too soon to abandon a team in MLB.

And FWIW, you're missing a good effort by the Phightins in tonight's game. (Hoping that I didn't jinx them for the bottom of the 8th & 9th.)

Solid game tonight but not sure anyone is surprised by this season. They came into the winter with a terrible defensive team, a lot of power at the dish, a terrible bullpen and really good starting pitching. Unlike the Mets who added players to transform the way they played, improved specific weaknesses and players who could get control of an out of control clubhouse, the Phillies just spent money and doubled down on every issue they had with the same type of player. It is a recipe that can’t win other then in spurts when the bats are red hot. It certainly isn’t a formula for October baseball.

I'm watching, Tom. And, it's never too early to abandon these guys. It's the same old story year after year. Yes, they won tonight and split the series but they'll find a way to make it not matter before long.

Can you tell how much they irritate me? ;)

And last night was the riddle of Aaron Nola. Was it just me, or did anyone else feel an implosion coming in say the 7th or 8th inning. Nola can make you feel like he’s in control for stretches and then suddenly the bottom just drops out. We all know the Spring Training games are meaningless, but I can’t tell you how many times the old scorecard will say 2 bombs and 3K’s for one inning.

He was absolutely wonderful last night. It was interesting though that he said JT had to remind him to bear down a couple of times early in the game. I would like to hear more about that. JT had to go and remind him?

That spot between booing and cheering for your team that's where I'm at with the fightins :giggle:🥴

I think that’s a pretty good description. Said differently, it’s like not wanting to get sucked in knowing that the ending of the story isn’t going to be good. I can see a hot streak where they get into the Wild Card only to have the pen implode and hopes dashed.

Bullpen back to normal. Waste of money on Knebel.

another brutal loss. Phil’s take the lead with a 3-run HR in the top of the 8th. They had the lead into the bottom of the 9th, and then Knebel gave up a HR allowing the Mets to tie it, and then he gave up a song that allowed the Mets to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th

The Phillies season is effectively over by Memorial Day. They’re 11 back in the division and 5 back in a crowded Wild Card field.

Nothing about this group says they’re anything but a .500 team. Tops. Even that would be a generous season.

Not all on girardi but bottom line he does not seem to be able to do anything to help them win.
He should be gone now and I don’t care who takes over they need a change and a “what good does he do” girardi is where it should happen.

Well, I guess that’s what’s supposed to happen with this team. Bullpen blows it, only for a HR in the bottom to follow.

The Phil's foolpen comes through again. Knebel must have compromising photos of Girardi. I can't think of any other reason why he keeps getting the ball, especially after blowing a game yesterday too.

I mean I get letting a guy “figure it out”, but is Joe gonna let him “figure it out” for 162 games? Either send him down or move him up in the bullpen.

Didn’t think the season would be over by Memorial Day, but that’s how it looks.

A little history lesson for you young Phillies fans. Paul Owens took over the Phillies farm system in 1966. He drafted Luzinski, Schmidt, Boone. It took 14 years to get to the World Series. The 2008 WS winners had 5 of the starting 8 come out of the system. The current squad has 2
and both (Hoskins and Bohm) are nowhere near all-star level. I can’t see those 2 guys playing on a winning team. There are a couple of guys in the low minors who look promising but it will be years before they make the majors.

It’s going to be a long wait.

Yes. It will be. It has to sit with Middleton. Kepler’s been great in SF surrounded by competent front office and scouting folks. You can’t debate that.

Dombrowski was the wrong hire. He’s a spend now guy for a team that needs ripped down and rebuilt over 7-8 years. They’re just foolishly emphasizing how poorly run they are right now with their payroll to win ratio.

It’s embarrassing.

I agree with the first part, slightly disagree with the second. Dombrowski has no assets in the farm system other than 2 pitchers in A ball and a catching prospect in AA. There’s no choice other than free agents. He cleaned house in the minors last year but it will take 3 or 4 years to know if his choices were right.

I’m getting up there, I don’t think I’ll be around to see it. Paraphrasing… hope is a good thing, maybe the best thing. 🤓

Don't really understand the Girardi hate...seems more like a roster issue...the team never seems to give up despite brutal losses and despite early-game deficits...and when said roster composition means that ANY move to the bullpen leads to runs for the opposing team it becomes irrelevant which bullpen arm is chosen to fail to get outs on any given day 🤷‍♂️.

And the bullpen strikes again, 2 run homer Giants 5-3 top of 10.

It wasn't Familia who gave up the HR you reference, but when he was announced in the offseason as a "fix" or "upgrade" for the Phillies' bullpen, I knew that there would be no upgrade; rooting against the Mets during his tenure there I always considered it a good thing when the Mets brought Familia into a game. Not intending to focus on him specifically, but rather to extrapolate that example as typical across the entire current Phillies bullpen, which was deceptively marketed as an "upgrade" from last year.

The Phil's foolpen comes through again. Knebel must have compromising photos of Girardi. I can't think of any other reason why he keeps getting the ball, especially after blowing a game yesterday too.

Somebody needs to pitch. Unfortunately there are no clear-cut better options on the current roster, except perhaps Dominguez. 🤷‍♂️

Also, I know some love him, some hate him. Mike was always very good to me. I’ve communicated with him a few times over the years. I hope he ends up doing a podcast or something. I listen to Mike constantly.

Well guys, we made it through May this year before the Phillies managed to lose my interest in baseball. It was a fun ride this year. Wake me up in March.
So incredibly disappointing. Last night was just the latest nail in the coffin in a long last full of them.

Was very surprised by this, especially how sudden it is in nature. Curious to see what's next for him, as well.
