Is it going to be one of those nights? One hour rain delay with very little rain. Now Schwarber gets 2 strikes called on pitches clearly out of the zone.

mlb.com recently updated their top 30 prospects list for each team. Their rankings of the Phightins' prospects can be found below. Painter and Abel (both pitchers) are the only Phils prospects in the MLB.com Top 100 list.

Their top 30 list for the Phillies is really bad in all honesty. Mcgarry is a top 100 prospect by many respected sources and they have him after Crawford. MLB’s rankings put way too much stock into how high you were drafted. Imo Mcgarry is better than abel and wouldn’t be surprised if we see him up after the AA season is over. His stuff will get big leaguers out right now.

I have no idea where they get their data from because savant which is the most comprehensive data you’re going to get unless you work for a team says that the strikeout to Warren was actually a strike. Either way iassogna is really bad.

They won’t for now unless a starter goes down. He needs to get his starts in at AA to get his innings up. If they bring him up to the bullpen now he’s not going to throw enough innings to be able to start and finish the year as a starter next year. Need to get him over 100 Ip this year so he can throw 150 as the 5 next year. He should be in the bullpen come playoff time.

Alvarado with a nice effort after getting into trouble in the top of the 8th, and giving up a run, and having men on 2nd & 3rd with 0 out. He then proceeded to strike out 3 straight. 5-4, Phils, middle of the 8th.

Hand gives up a 2-run triple in the top of the 9th, allowing the Reds to go up 6-5. smh

In the bottom of the 9th Segura walked. Stott then PH, and hit the top of the fence -- inches from a walk-off HR. He got a double out of it with Segura to 3rd, and then the ball got away from the infielder so each advanced, making it 6-6, Stott on 3rd, and no out. Vierling struck out making it 1 out. Then Maton came up as a PH. Ring The Bell, as Maton with a single ... 7-6, Phils!!!

I thought they were returning to early season form and my frustration almost made me turn it off before the bottom of the ninth. I'm glad I stuck with it. The young guys stepped up with a couple big hits to get it done. Super impressed with how Stott has been developing in the past several weeks.

SIAP... anyone else like Jim Gardner doing play by play for the Phils? Those golden pipes I thought he sounded very good and natural calling the game. Maybe when he retires in a few months from ABC, they can convince him to call some games.

Can you imagine the Braves overtaking the Mets and winning the division? On top of that the Phillies sweep the Mets in a best of 3 at Citi Field? In that scenario there would be extra security on duty at the George Washington Bridge.
It really may happen. History say there's a high probability.

Ring It ...
Phils win 7-5 over the Reds. A nice double play (Bohm-Segura-Hoskins) to end the game, with Robertson on the mound.
A number of months ago, that ball might have eaten Bohm up. He made a nice snab, good foundation, good transfer and throw. He’s had a great year to date. It will be interesting to see the lineup construction when Bryce comes back.

Tom, here is a question for you since I think these might be realistic.

Which do you prefer for next year?

Hoskins, Stott, Segura, Bohm or

Bohm, Stott, Turner, Segura ?

Segura will be the one to go. Rhys is still under team control next year. They have 60M coming off the books this winter and will need 2 bullpen arms, one SP, and a SS.
Stott
Turner
Harp
Rhys
Schwarb
Castellanos
JT
Bohm
Marsh
Would be my prediction for next year. No team would be able to run a lineup out like that for the next few years.

The Phils really have done a nice job working with Bohm, and building up his confidence in his D. Yeah, he had an error last week in a game, but his D has been excellent for the most part. That's a far cry from where he was on Opening Day.

think he has to hit higher than 8th. all he does is hit. good eye, good stroke, power developing. maybe put him at 3, and let harper hit 4.

Tom, here is a question for you since I think these might be realistic.

Bohm, Stott, Turner, Segura ?

The Phils are a strange lineup, and Harper being out for an extended period, and Schwarb being out for a week plus exposed some of the weaknesses of the lineup. Most of their hitters are power hitters. They could use a few more contact hitters. Hoskins is a pretty good contact hitter, and walks a lot, but he also goes through long stretches where he's barely hitting -- kind of odd for a contact hitter.

In that context, one would have to be excited about the ability to add Turner. He's a hitting machine, as well as an excellent fielder. I haven't analyzed the salary numbers for next season (it appears that @Owenarndt did), and with them being in luxury tax zone after signing Schwarber and Castellanos, I hesitate to get too excited about a FA. However, Turner would be an excellent addition if both sides could make it work.

I believe Segura's contract has an option year for next season, so the easiest (at least to me; it's Middleton's money, not mine) is to not pick up Segura's option, sign Turner, and move Stott to 2nd.

I'm not sure if it was a typo on your part, but the option you presented is either Turner or Hoskins. I think it's more of a Segura vs. Turner situation. Hoskins is currently on a 1-year contract. He's eligible for arbitration in 2023, and can't become a FA until 2024. I prefer him over their other options at 1B, but long term this roster does have a surplus of guys that could DH or play 1st, so the Phightins will have to make a decision on him in the coming years.

My preference would be Bohm, Turner, Stott, and Hoskins, though that's not one of the options you listed.
