think he has to hit higher than 8th. all he does is hit. good eye, good stroke, power developing. maybe put him at 3, and let harper hit 4.
He can hit but his eye is among the worst in the league. Walking just 4% of AB’s. That’s his next step in development. Harp is making 26 million and bohm is making 700k per year. Harp will always be the 3 hitter for as long as he’s here.

Harper is back tomorrow which was expected after he took today off, and the Phillies gave bohm and Castellanos off with the dh spot now occupied for the rest of the year. Marsh is also expected back after the pirates series.

@Owenarndt -- I've enjoyed your participation in this thread, and look forward to your future posts. If I recall correctly, you have more baseball experience, at a higher level, than the average fan.

Can't JT or Bohm DH tonight? I know he wants to rest guys, but this lineup is brutal.

Segura will be the one to go. Rhys is still under team control next year. They have 60M coming off the books this winter and will need 2 bullpen arms, one SP, and a SS.
Stott
Turner
Harp
Rhys
Schwarb
Castellanos
JT
Bohm
Marsh
Would be my prediction for next year. No team would be able to run a lineup out like that for the next few years.
Sorry, the way the Phillies normally do business is to not let guys play out their walk year. So, normally they would be working to buy out the last year of arbitration and extend. As you know, Hoskins is a Boras client and Boras believes he has an excellent working relationship with Middleton (meaning ability to extract money from Middleton). Since you haven’t heard anything about an extension, made me wonder.

I don’t think there’s is any concern over luxury tax since Dombrowski knows the window for winning is now and maybe the next three years figuring you might get lucky with Painter, Abel or both and go forward with Zach/Nola/Ranger/Painter/Abel.

So, I agree, you really need a SS and the Phillies will be a major player for Turner who wants to return to the East Coast.

I guess you could bring Hoskins back with Turner but they could extend Segura for cheaper money and move Bohm to 1st and say have Segura for maybe 2 years after this one.

I do agree, you need 2 quality arms in the pen. Keneble likely won’t pitch and Seranthony is a time bomb it seems. I’d be careful given the mileage on Robertson but I guess he would be a consideration. I haven’t looked at the available arms in the pen.

This is really challenging. Seranthony being suspect is huge and Kneble being done shortens the pen. Throw Zach on top of it and Nola has never finished particularly strong to boot. Schwarber has been MIA but at least JT and Nick have stood up. Buckle up, this sounds bumpy for the remainder of the ride. They might have to flip the script and simply bash their way into the playoffs.

I must say, just about every MLB ump that I have had conversations with has seemed like a decent guy. But then again, I have never spoken to Bucknor who seems like a complete clown. Frank Pulli loved to chat and Randy Wolfe’s brother was exactly how you would think he would be. I kind of feel sorry for them getting their knees cut out but understand it.

The old timers were really colorful, each having a unique style. And some of the dust ups with the usual suspects like Weaver, Bobby Cox, and Billy Martin were legendary moments. These guys were bad asses but they let you have your say.

Forearm is the worst place to have soreness l/tendinitis. However the move to bring Sanchez up tells me this wasn’t very serious because they thought if they gave him an extra day he’d be ready to pitch. Basically just wanted to skip one one start but we don’t have the depth right now to not call someone up in his place, so they had to put him on the IL and miss 2 starts. Definitely the right move

It gives you an appreciation for these guys and how unnatural it is to throw a baseball for a living. Guys like Alvarado I understand given how he throws with max effort on every pitch. He looks like his arm could fly off on any pitch. But Wheeler seems to be more cut from the classic Tom Seaver dip and drive. Wheeler always seems to be so effortless throwing that gas. But the stress is unfathomable.

My friend interviewed Koufax a hundred years ago at the old Cracker Jack Old Timers game in DC. He told my friend that the decision to stop playing was easy, he was more worried about a functional arm and being able to swing a golf club.

I’m hoping and trusting in what you say.

Don't mess with Philly fans!

These exchanges normally don’t go well. But it reminds me of a day when someone with too many beers behind him started yelling at Billy Wagner. Eventually, it got around to the guy asking Wagner how tall he was. Wagner said it depends on whether he is standing on his money or not. If its when he’s standing on his money then Wagner said he’s really tall.

And the fact Billy Wagner was one the best closers in baseball ever.

Can't wait. Curtain call guaranteed bottom of first. The guys stepped up...

I have to say, I have enjoyed this year more than anything else in a long time. They have been both maddening and exceedingly enjoyable to watch. They were terrible and tv’s were being turned off all over the place. They perked up just to have their superstar go down and everyone assumed they were toast. What happened was they played as a team with everyone having a turn. Schwarber went nuts, Rhys too. Then the kids, notably Bohm and Scott and a lesser extent Hall provided spark.

Recently JT and Nick have done damage. The pen was horrible and then they found their footing. The starters have been consistently pretty good.

I don’t care who they play and whether they stink. All these games, the Phillies would lose a ton of them in prior years. It’s almost the way I felt in 07 and later. Fall behind, they can come back a lot.

A lot will be directed towards Thompson. All I’ve heard is that he is a nice guy and is amazingly dedicated. Managing 25 guys, a lot who make a ton of money ain’t easy. He deserves a ton of credit.

He has turned up at the park as early as 2:30AM. Reminds me of Charlie and Bo. This year I went over to watch the kids before they settled. The guy at the gate was saying that Charlie and Bo are the first two guys to show up every day. These guys ain’t spring chickens but they are lifers who will be OK if they die on the field. I’m not saying Thompson is all that, but it’s obvious that they respect him and play for him.

Yeah the interim tag is just there at this point. He deserved this chance and when he got it he made it. Your whole post echos my feelings. Bohm's career trajectory might have change with "I fn hate..."

Wish he would win MotY but Showalter probably will. Thomson will get his well deserved big bucks.

I've thought all along Stott has superstar potential. 5 tools.

Stott had a spring that reminded me of Kingery that one year forever ago. Hit everything and he was on base every time you looked up. Then the season started and Stott looked like his swing got longer with him trying to do too much.

Both him and Bohm had a point in time where it could have gone south. Both responded and now you feel they might be really long term pieces. That’s HUGE to get cheap production.

I’m not sure of where the connection between Stott and Harper came from (other than maybe they train together Inn Vegas), but Harper will push and pull what’s there in Stott. That has to be a positive in the long run having #3 behind you.

OK, now I'm pissed. I'm in Boalsburg and am blacked out of the Phillies game on TV tonight even though I have an MLB subscription.

I fear this is the harbinger of things to come. We'll need subscriptions to a cable system, Apple, Amazon, BTN on demand, and Peacock, et al to ensure we can see al PSU games.

I was in the same boat. The MLB blackout rules seem to be applied inconsistently at times. I used a VPN to seem as though I was in a foreign country which allowed me to get the Phils' broadcast. The weird thing was all games were free tonight on mlb.tv but they still stuck with the blackout rules.

I tried the VPN route and it didn't work for me.
