correct. We haven't really discussed this, but I'm really not a big fan of the new format, and playing every AL and every NL team. It really does reduce the number of division games, and that competition, especially in Sep., has lead to some great rivalries and some great contests into the final day of the season.

I guess I'll get used to the new format, and it will be nice to see some of the AL stars play at the CBP.
Completely agree, and, to take the schedule discussion further, whoever is responsible for the Phillies not playing on July 4 and Labor Day should be banned from any more schedule making. IT'S A SUMMER SPORT!

wtf??? I hadn't noticed that. Those are typically huge attendance days, whether the Phils are home or away. That's a really dumb move on the part of MLB.

The advantage of the new format is there isn’t any more arguing about schedules, every team in the NL east will play the exact same teams the same number of times other than each team plays a different AL team 4 games instead of 3 like they do against the rest of the AL

I’m sure someone out there has figured this all out. To me, they lose numbers against the Nats and Marlins which probably offsets the reduction of games against the Mets and Braves. The rest of it is too complicated given that they played interleague on a rotational basis so it’s not like you never played the Yankees and better AL teams.

I’d guess it’s neutral to maybe slightly better or worse; I’d be surprised I guess if it REALLY helps them or REALLY hurts them but who knows.

I’m with you, playing the division a lot in Sept made you hate those guys more and you had the opportunity to run down a team like the Mets in 07.

It doesn’t help or hurt anyone. If you’re in the same division you play the exact same teams the same number of times. Phillies Mets Braves nats marlins will have identical schedules other than dates of the game obviously.

I understand what you’re saying and maybe I’m not as sophisticated as LionJim but what I’m asking is whether say the Phillies opponent winning percentage has gone up or down year on year as a result of the scheduling change. The Phillies have beat up on the poorer record teams this year; what happens next year as it relates to opponent win %?

Gutsy win tonight. Bryce doubled with 1 out in the 9th and Segura drives him home. They needed that!
Harper was fortunate to reach 2nd after jogging out of the box. Can't be doing that in a must win game. Huge break on the dumbest rule in baseball. Sosa gets thrown out at the plate on a great throw, but it's overturned because the catcher didn't give Sosa a lane.

Sometimes you need luck to escape the voodoo that’s been dogging them.

Terrible top of the 9th. Hoskins with a brutal error helps the Marlins score twice and lead 6-5. Robertson looks shot out there. Angel Hernandez blows a check swing that would have been a strikeout. Marlins got 5 outs that inning.

They took 2 of 3, but damn. They should have beaten Alcantara yet again.

Naturally the bullpen makes tonight's game more interesting than it needed to be. We all know they need a healthy staff to have a puncher's chance in October. Good sign is seeing Harper and Schwarber go yard. Nice to see a big crowd tonight.

It sounds like Dominguez and Elfin will return in the next few days. Wheeler is maybe another week away.

That will help.

Play is resuming after a 3 hr. 36 min rain delay. Apparently, it's the long in-game rain delay in Phillies history. (They've had games where multiple delays were longer, but not a single delay of this interval.)

When the game resumed, in the top of the 3rd, the Phils were up 1-0. Quickly, it became 4-1, Nats. And then, in the bottom of the 5th:
