Great sweep. They have four more against these hapless Nats to end the season. Feast, fellas.
That series will probably mean nothing to the Astros as they are 6 games up on the Yanks for home field. Could help if the Phils need to win a game to get in.Also they’re now basically four games up on Milwaukee in the wild card race when you include the tiebreaker Philly holds. Just keep winning series and they’ll be looking good here in two weeks. We need that final series against the Astros to mean nothing. Rest those pitchers.

If they get to a third game they’re much better off just having ranger throw one time through the lineup and then giving it to the bullpen in the 4th. In that type of game you’re going to ask alvarado for 2 seranthony for a least 1 and Robertson for at least 1. Best case scenario is the Mets and Braves go down to the last day for the division and throw degrom/scherzer fried/strider the last series and then we play the loser with their best pitching out.Right. I hope that's the case. I believe I saw something previously about Nola and/or Wheeler on pace to pitch in that series, so obviously we just want them to be rested for the wild card series and not have to pitch to get the Phillies in. They're not winning a three game series without those two on the mound. With those two pitching, anything can happen. Thor, Gibson, Ranger are all to up and down right now. Shoot, if Falter keeps pitching like he is over the final three weeks, I think you gotta seriously consider him for that third game if needed. I know, it's probably unlikely, but the kid is pitching great right now.
I wonder how many times it could end up like this with the new format. It's quite conceivable that there will be a number of times when one division has a couple of teams that are stronger than the best team from another division. The #5 seed may become the tricky spot depending on the year.In the NL it looks like it'd be better to be the #6 seed.
If they go .500 from here on out (6 left vs Miami and Washington), then they win 89 games and should be a lock for a wild card spot as things sit. Also they’re now basically four games up on Milwaukee in the wild card race when you include the tiebreaker Philly holds. Sounds logical based on Atlanta and the Dodgers in the other 1/2, but on the other hand the one team that has seemingly had the Phillies' number this year (including some unusual comebacks / Phillies bullpen collapses) is the Mets...may not be the best team, but they have been the most formidable team specifically against the Phillies...In the NL it looks like it'd be better to be the #6 seed.

May we spend a moment admiring the fact that last night should have been 5 in a row over Alcantara? Had they won last week, I think it would have been. Maybe the Marlins should wise up, realize he stinks and trade him to the Phillies.
I certainly hope the Phils can win the series. OTOH, if they lose any games this weekend I’ll take solace in the fact that any loss also hurts the Mets.Obviously the Phillies have an important series against the Braves this weekend and another against the Braves soon thereafter...
For anyone familiar with WFAN in the New York area, die-hard Mets fan (and therefore NOT a fan of the Phillies) Evan Roberts with a definitive "Mets Fans for Phillies!"
The link is already cued up for that particular spot of the show; when testing it I just clicked the pause/play button on the bottom of the screen, at least on this browser. Enjoy:

I think the ceiling for this year’s team is a wild card round exit. That’s down to pitching. That my folks is a bullpen meltdown. Just one game, but none of this is encouraging. I still have a dream the Braves win the division and we sweep the Mets at Citi Field in a best of three.

Yeah, good thing the the Brewers have also been finding ways to lose, or else the Phillies may not make the playoffs after all...When your team scores 11 runs, they should win the game. Allowing Toronto to score 6 runs in the first 3 innings was bad enough. Then allowing them to score 10 runs in the last 3 innings kind of eliminated the chance of winning.
I give the Phightins credit for fighting back by scoring 4 in the 5th, and scoring 6 runs in the last 2 innings.
This is not the time of year for a team trying to get into the playoffs to have a 4-game losing streak.
18-11, the Blue Jays over the Phils.
Really nice comeback win tonight. They needed it.Let's go Phils! We need this one.
Let's hope Houston rests some players.Right now, the Phitin's have a 2 1/2 game lead on the Brewers for the final WC spot.
After this weekends HUGE 4-game home stand with the Braves (Phils need at worst a split), the Phillies wind up their season with a 10 game road trip. They face the Cubs (3), Nationals (4), and the Astros (3). I'm hoping for a 6-4 trip, losing 1 game to each the Cubbies and Nats (5-2), and get at least 1 game against Houston!
The Brewers have a 4-game road trip at Cincy this weekend. Then, they finish up at home, with the Cardinals (2), Miami (4), and Arizona (3).
If the Phillies can go 8-6 in their last 14 games, the Brew-crew would have to go 11-2 to win the last WC spot. Just sayin'.
