What's the deal with Robertson? I know he's inactive due to injuring himself celebrating Harper's HR on Saturday, but he wasn't being used before that. Seems like he could help.

He worked with Houdini or something when he took the minors assignment. I was afraid for the Phillies and opposing batters at one point. Now he is freaking reliable almost.

Wheeler is going to have a day tomorrow. 8 innings 10k 0bb 2 hits.
Alvarado has been basically unhittable except I think once for the quite a few weeks since he came back up. He has been freakishly reliable for quite a while.

Finally back from the event I had to attend. I listened to the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings on the radio while driving to the event. Seranthony was, possibly, the best he's been all year. Alvarado was excellent. Eflin was somewhat shaky, but got out of the inning before surrendering the lead.

What a great game for the Phillies. Phillies fans (myself included) try to stay positive, but if you looked at the NLDS series objectively, you had to think that Fried and the Braves would be heavy favorites over Suarez and the Phillies. With the Phils taking game 1, they now get to roll out Wheeler and then Nola for games 2 and 3. That doesn't guarantee victories for the Phils, but it certainly does change the dynamics of the NLDS series.

If I remember correctly, I heard on the radio broadcast that the Phils 3-7 hitters went 10 for 20 in the game. Suarez battled, Seranthony and Alvarado dominated, and Eflin did just enough, but the Phils won the game with their bats (and a great catch in the bottom of the 9th).

Give me a frickin’ break. It was a freak accident. We ask players to play with passion but then expect them to wear seatbelts and only golf clap when something exciting happens?

Yeah, it does sound as though it was a freak accident. I'll grant you that. The rest of you comment is external to the situation, IMHO.

My comment ("idiot"), has to do with getting injured before the NLDS. Listening to Eflin pitching today, and watching Brogan pitching today, pointed out how thin the Phils' bullpen is with Robertson injured.

I'm sure Robertson didn't injure himself on purpose. I just think that an adult athlete should be able to celebrate a teammates play without injuring himself.

A great description of Ranger's efforts today:

I would never have guessed this:

None of those were called from the bench, not even Veirling’s. After the game Thomson said he’d like to see them swing the bat (at least Schwarber and Bryce). This is getting interesting. That 93 team would drink as long as the beer was cold after the game talking about the game, situations, etc. I see a team right now locked in and each guy doing whatever he can to help and “pass the baton” to the next guy after hoping to set them up better. In STL, you saw players sharing info on the pitchers stuff, etc. These guys are locked in wanting to give themselves up to help the next guy. What does that say? It says to me that they are a VERY confident group who have all bought in.

Interesting. I didn't know they weren't called from the bench.

Winning is contagious.

It is interesting how the mindset of the fans has changed in a short time. They were slowing starting to get on the train in July and August. Then their mindset seemed to falter in September, especially after the Chicago series.

The manager seemed to be able to keep everything in perspective, and the players really seemed to believe in him (and it really seems they were tuning out Girardi), and to believe in each other. Wheeler got healthy, Seranthony got healthy, and Bryce is showing evidence of finally being back. (Hoskins, unfortunately, seems to be in one of his batting funks, but I digress.)

The Fightins sure are playing with confidence.

So tell me, how was he supposed to know that something as simple as jumping for joy would cause an injury? He was merely doing the exact same thing that every other member of the team was doing, but somehow he is the only one that celebrated foolishly? Was Russell Martin an idiot when he got injured from high firing a teammate after a wild card win a few years ago? This is not a Gus Frerotte or Jason Pierre-Paul celebration. He. Jumped. For. Joy.

Watching the team yesterday, they appear to be relaxed and having fun, enjoying the ride. Can’t want for more than that. Could the bats really be coming alive? If so, look out.

😬
Do not like this. Don't want Wheeler coming out throwing two innings then a 3 hour rain delay. Hopefully they hold off the game hours if need be to make sure both starters don't come out and have their games shot. If it becomes a bullpen game that would be bad. Falter has been great in his role but this could throw everything off. The forecast doesn't just look rainy. It looks severe.

With that weather forcast..do you think about starting Falter today? He has thrown well vs Atlanta this year and would preserve Wheeler to either come out after rain delay when things look good weather wise or have him ready to go for Game 3 then Nola in Game 4. These guys won't be able to pitch game 5 anyway, so something to think about for Thompson

I’ll have to watch him more but if he throws 95 and it’s straight, that 95 gets turned around big time. He has zero confidence and I’d really work on him developing something softer (change) or something that moves (like Alvarado did with his cutter). Straight and 95 is a recipe to get you whacked.
His change was only thing working. Can’t live on change when you can’t command the fastball. His fb command was the issue yesterday. He does not look confident and with no command, how can he?

Saw a Kruk hype video this morning on twitter. Kruk stated in that video that the Braves have never beat the Phillies in the playoffs. Not sure how true it is when the Braves always seem to be in the playoffs. Then again it is rare the Phillies make the playoffs.

Not looking good

I won't complain if they delay the start. If they stick to the schedule, I'll miss the first few innings.

As @harjeff mentioned, the Phils would be disadvantaged if they start the game with Wheeler, but then have to go on an extended rain delay.

Radars do show that it may clear up around 7:30-8 pm. They may be able to get this in tonight. I think as long as they can start it before 9, you play today.

The bars around Truist Park are so fun. I went to a game last summer. Cards vs Braves. I was down there for a camp, so was by myself and wanted to see the stadium.

I actually met some Penn State fans and enjoyed going into the game, but looking back, I could’ve just hung out in all those bars that surround the stadium. I think they call it “The Battery” or something like that.

Just an awesome setup. Atlanta did a great job with that. If you’re looking for an away trip to see the Phils, I highly recommend it. I’ve been to 7 or 8 ballparks now and that’s my favorite.

I never watched a game there. I don't think an experience can be any better than around Wrigley. Not only did we get treated well dress in Phillies clothes but they went out of their way. Friendly confines is real. Then in the park people just buy everyone around them rounds. Just like in Philly lmao

Seriously though it was like living in another era. Plus they might have roofied me but walking around the area was so neat.

The ATL experience would surprise me but glad to hear it.

Was there the day before the Auburn game. I agree it was plenty fun. The City did a great job with the development of that area. And yes, it's called "The Battery".
