197 Final: Max Dean vs. Silas Allred (Nebraska) (I'll use SA)

Another #1 seed vs. #2 seed matchup

This should be an interesting match.

Per 1
Nothing thru 1 min (no real shots). SA in on a single, Dean grabs an ankle, they scramble, and a stoppage for PD with 54 sec. left. SA in on a single to a double and gets the TD, 0-2. Dean with a quick esc, 1-2. End. RT @ 9 sec for SA.

Per 2
Dean takes bottom. Up and returned, and then up and nearly out but they are OOB with 1:43 left. Dean to his feet, and he's out after 25 sec, 2-2. SA has gotten to his legs 2 times, which is a concern. Dean nearly had a single but nothing. 1 min left. SA in on a single to a double and gets the TD, 2-4. Dean to his feet and he's out, 3-4. End. RT @ 49 sec for SA

Per 3
SA takes neutral. SA shoots, blocked. Dean with a bit of a shot, nothing. Dean reaches nothing. 1 min left. SA shoots a single goes to a double, Dean grabs an ankle, they are on the edge, and Dean nearly gets a TD but SA's foot was on the wood. Dean shoots, SA sprawls, nothing. SA shoots off of that, and then works thru a scramble to get TD, 3-6

Hats off to Allred. I can't recall the last time an opponent was able to get to Dean's legs so consistently.

Dean finishes in 2nd place.

Dean just need’s to make a couple adjustments. Taller guys are harder to finish against. Yes definitely must protect his legs better. Most are going to pick neutral against him.

285 Final: Greg Kerkvliet (Kerk) vs. Mason Parris (Michigan) (I'll use MP)

#2 seed vs. #1 seed

Kerk's only loss this season is to MP

Per 1
Kerk with a sloppy shot and MP with a counter for a TD, 0-2. OOB with 1:53 sec left. Kerk nearly to his feet and then returned. Kerk sits out, then to his feet, and he's out, 1-2. OOB with 1:22 and a stall call on MP on that as he just backed off the mat. Kerk reaches, MP tried to counter, nothing for either. End. RT @ 48 sec for MP

Per 2
Kerk takes bottom. He's to his feet, and MP basically carries him OOB with 1:49 sec left. Kerk sits out and spins for the esc, 2-2. Kerk shoots but MP scoots back. Kerk with another sort-of shot, nothing. 45 sec left. End. RT @ 1:03 for MP

Per 3
MP takes bottom. He's to his feet and out in 7 sec, 2-3. RT is under 1 min for MP. Kerk shoots a low single, and MP tries to counter, nothing for either. 1 min left. Kerk with a double but MP with a good sprawl. 30 sec left. Stall call on MP so it's 3-3. Kerk shots but MP sprawls. End. We're going SV

SV
Kerk nearly with an ankle pick, but MP backs away. Kerk with a double, MP sprawls, and then MP drives thru and gets the TD, 5-3.

I said Parris was a different man this year. I don’t understand why kerk is reaching and wrestling him different than other guys this year.
oh well 3 weeks to perhaps another meeting.

Great tournament. Expected RBY and Brooks to win easily. Thought Labriola could give Carter a match, but that wasn’t the case. Felt Dean was a slight favorite, but lost. Had Kerk as a slight underdog and lost. Had Haines as the underdog and he continues to impress and gets better every week. Haines Big Ten Champ!!!
