potential major pre-season injury for UConn: 6-5 Jana el Alfy (international freshman from Egypt) reportedly injured her Achilles and was taken off the court yesterday in a wheelchair.

differing early reports to severity, but Achilles injuries can be season-ending. she looked very good in the Fiba under 19 World cup so could be a blow to front court depth for Geno's predicted top 3 squad

That's awful. I'm starting to wonder if there is a Husky curse. So many injuries over the last couple of seasons.

Come to UConn for the mild summers, enjoy the casinos, get hurt and join Bueckers, Fudd, Ducharme, Bundy, Juhasz, Griffin, El Alfy on bench watching the Huskies play. I don’t know of a team with a worse run of injuries then UConn over the last 2+ years

It gets worse. Apparently she enrolled last year. Once a player enrolls, the clock starts ticking on her eligibility. Every player has 5 years to play 4. Meaning she only has 3 years of eligibilty left, if she doesn't play this season. I would think the NCAA would grant her an additional season, but you never know with that organization.

Recovery from Achilles injury is 6 months minimum.

UConn is small at the bigs with depth issues.

Edwards at 6’3” will play center. She is a marvelous player and a 1st round pick. She can’t handle Cardoso.

Ice Brady is 6’2” and coming off ACL surgery. She was #5 recruit, so she is talented but unproven and coming off injury

El Alfy 6’5” and out for the year.

Ayanna Patterson 6’2” she was #4 recruit. Last season She played sparingly even though there was a desperate need for bodies. Very disappointing year for her.

Amari DeBerry 6’5” barely played or scored the last two seasons. Has to be considered a flop for a top 20 recruit

That’s it. For all their great guards they are very vulnerable down low

Offers from not very many division 1 schools but that will increase.

I think you are mistaken. I see offers from at least a dozen Division I schools, including Tennessee, Florida, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, Arizona, ASU, and us.

@Chris Wellbaum announced on Insiders that we have scheduled OOC @ECU For Saturday Dec 30.

It’s a good game for strength of schedule. Could possibly be a quad 1 win depending on ECU’s season. (Top75 team on the road)

ECU returns their top 6 players from an NCAA TOURNAMENT team. This includes Swansea native and top 100 recruit Danae McNeil #48. She spent 2 fruitless seasons at taterville and then blossomed at ECU, 17ppg and conference DPOY last year. We did not offer.

They also had the 6’3” Wyche twins transfer in from UF. Will be a solid roster and very likely could go back to the dance.

Great road game for us. Close by(I smell a bus trip game) against a good team that even though is not P5 will help the schedule.

10 OOC games scheduled and 8 made the NCAA TOURNAMENT.

Hard to believe she is 15. I think it’s a great sign that McKenna and her family visited this early in the process. Taking our interest seriously and wanting to see whether or not to pursue coming across country
College volleyball coaches can't even contact HS players until their junior year. Not sure how there are different recruiting standards for different sports. We seem to benefit from the rules in WBB, so I have no complaints.

Well UT already has a commitment from an 8th grader

Joyce Edwards is participating in the U17 3 x 3 trials. Hard to believe she's only 16! I imagine she's a lock to make this team.

Imagine her at 20 years of age dominating the SEC and bringing Carolina another Natty...

I think the equestrian team keeps their horses at a facility in Blythewood
One Wood Farm Equestrian Center, it’s on Syrup Mill road in Blythewood. It is a full equestrian training and competition center. Matches care held there an I’ve been a couple of times. It’s a fun event but long.

The Vols fans were pretty certain that they were getting Cooper and Watkins.

I wish Cooper well except when they play us. Any word on her enrollment timeline and her eligibility status for the upcoming season?
I'm speculating here. I would guess that she will enroll as soon as possible. She needs to get oriented with her new team and get her academics in order. I don't see how she will be able to play this season since she entered the portal after the deadline. She could always apply for a waiver but on what grounds? Certainly not to be closer to home because of some family issues. I wish she had selected another school but best wishes to her.

Yeah I’m wondering why she took so much time unless she knew she was going to sit anyway.

I think her timing was greatly affected by freshmen and transfers making it on campus. It was at this point that Cooper got serious court time with PaoPao, Fulwiley and Tessa Johnson. Players know…. Good news for the team, not so good news for Cooper

From the Tennessee Board - re: Cooper transferring from SC to UT & her initial recruitment.
some of these folk live in an alternate reality. while a legendary program, the majority of their fans are completely out of touch with the current state of their program vs ours .
that board is comedy gold .

(Dawn mad ? Will she? Cooper was not the starter plus two other point guards coming in, either both transfers or one a transfer and the other a freshman)

I don't know if she would be mad but I def know she didn't want Cooper HERE at TN. The story was Cooper was a TN lean for the jump but SC had everyone put pressure on her to change her to put her towards SC and it worked. I have a feeling we will hear some more of why TN this time around. While it's hearsay i've heard from people with ears on the ground that she was heartbroken kellie she was choosing SC and there was a lot of pressure from everyone frol
parents (which they had people in their ears) to club coaches.

All I know is if she thought she got recruited over at SC then she better watch her back at UT. If they bring in another only 1 person signing class then next year they will again be trying to grab the best of the portal no matter what the position to just build their numbers.

She played 10 minutes against Florida and was 1 of 5 from the field with 4 turnovers. She didn't see much playing time after that game. And then we brought Paopao in to compete for a national title this season. So I didn't see her getting much playing time this season.

I'm sure she'll be good down the road; we're just not the program where a player can "work out her issues."

If I remember correctly she didn’t just have an off game, her turnovers were of the silly, careless and inattentive type. She didn’t miss good shots but wild shots.

In the Staleyverse you don’t necessarily have to play great to earn another chance to be on the floor. But woe to the player who repeatedly hurts the team through poor mental performance or not play D.

I think Cooper has the chance to start at UT and be a solid contributor, and by her senior year who knows. By her timing, I think she clearly read the writing on the wall about playing time.
