Chloe and Joyce have played a few times together in this tournament. I don't think there's a huge conspiracy to not play them more together. When looking at this roster, Chloe and Joyce are by far the best two 4s on the roster. So subbing them for each other ensures we remain strong and maintain an advantage in that position at all times.
I thought Chloe at the 4 and Joyce at the 5 was an effective lineup against Germany. The Germans ran everything on the perimeter and Edwards could switch on to smaller players better than our other 5's, contesting every outside shot.

But, to your point, I can't remember watching a minute when at least one of them wasn't on the court. So they are only players with experience at the 4 in this tournament. Edwards has gotten into foul trouble a couple of times, so Joni might fear playing them together for that reason.

At least she knows if an opponent gets hot from the perimeter, she has a lineup to take away the 3 pointer.

Joni went to the Chloe-Joyce lineup late in the 4th when France needed 3's to get back in the game. Otherwise a rather uneventful game for Chloe. She just isn't effective against bigger teams at the 4 and Joni isn't playing her at any other position.

Overall, the US was impressive from the 2nd quarter on, with the exception of too many turnovers. The outside shooting was surprisingly good.

Can you believe Prospect Nation ranks Joyce Edwards #4 In her class?

Edwards was +28 today when on the court. Best on the team by far. Right now she's the team's MVP.

From watching a lot of FIBA basketball tournaments, the tourney MVP is always from the winning team and it usually goes to a player who has a good game in the final. Edwards has a shot at tournament MVP, if the US can beat Spain. Not a guaranteed win in Spain, though.

Regardless, Joyce has had an outstanding tournament and she's only 1 of 2 US players still in high school. But there are 3 players better than her in the class of 23. 🙄

I wish Joyce Edwards would commit so it would encourage other recruits to jump in the nest too...

Still hoping for Koval to go along with Edwards ....we need height as well as shooters....

Anyone know of her offers? Could she be the birdie?
@ Chris Wellbaum had a post on heron the Insiders. Kylee is 6’5” and has had a good summer. She is not ranked in HoopGurlz top 60 for 25 but is expected to be moved in next update. Her stated plan is to Reclassify AND Redshirt her freshman year in college.

That is a pretty detailed plan so she already my have a place lined up. No idea if that is us.

Armchair consensus is Madisen McDaniel is the birdie

Does anyone think there is a chance we get Justice Carlton?
We are in her final group which is either 4 or 5 schools. @ CockyGirl will know.

Edwards and Kitts have really blossomed and in a team framework. This tournament makes it hard to put talent in context.
The four best individual performers in my estimation(no particular order)
Elalfy 6’4 from Egypt who will be a freshman at UCONN
Prospere who will be a soph at ND
Fournier HS Senior who has committed to Duke
Haidara from Mali who already turned pro

Good list. Usually the winning team gets 2 players on the all-tourney team and the losing team guaranteed 1 spot. (I think Fournier and Haidara get the other 2 spots).

I thought Chloe was a lock for all-tourney if the US won. She didn't score a point today, though. She needs a good game tomorrow.

I always think it’s hard to pull a player out of Texas. I really haven’t gleaned much from her.

If I'm not mistaken isn't Sarah Strong's mother from South Carolina. Seems like I read somewhere she wants Sarah at Carolina but is leaning to UCONN. Am i right?
I thought I read her mom played with Dawn Staley on the Charlotte Sting? Doesn’t appear that we have ever been high on her list but with Strong and Edwards being the same position, I think she knows we are all in on Edwards

3 of the top 5 players are Aces. 4 of the top 7. 5 of the top 24.

I know the league is relatively small, but that's crazy.

3 former Gamecocks make the list.

Only 12 teams and the Aces are really solid. It's quite ridiculous that the reigning MVP and DPOY who is leading the #1 team still can't get named #1 on these lists.

Definitely. When she plays the 5, there isn't a better female basketball player in the world. Surround her with shooters and she can't be double team: forgetaboutit. She's too athletic for bigger players to defend (remember how she owned the big girl from Miss State) and too big for smaller, athletic players to defend.

She resisted playing the 5 here at first. When Coates went down with an injury in 2017, she was forced into playing the position. And good things happened.

Even with the Aces, she played with Liz Cambridge for a couple of seasons. Once she left and they focused on surrounding A'ja with shooters, they have dominated the league. Good luck trying to stop her.

Allison Feaster who was a prep legend in SC but played for the heels. Was a teammate of Dawn’s. She married Danny Strong who played for NCSU.
Allison Feaster did not play for the heels. She played for Harvard. She is form Chester, SC and her husband Danny Strong played his high school ball at Great Falls, SC under the legendary John Smith. They both have strong ties to South Carolina, but their daughter and Edwards play the same position, so recruiting is tricky here.

Dang you are right, my bad.

They do play the same position, but when I watch them, they seem to play it so differently. I think they could thrive together. But what do I know.

I wouldn't mind seeing a rotation of Chloe, Joyce and Booker at the 4 and 5 in the 2nd half. Van Slooten didn't give us much in over 11 minutes of play.

The All tournament team MVP went to a player from Spain somehow. Chloe didn't make the all tournament team but Joyce did get recognized for it.

Super happy for Joyce but feel like Chloe deserved a spot
Hidalgo benefitted from Lepolo putting up a Goose egg today. In general, she looked like the better point guard throughout the tourney. In contrast, Chloe and Joyce were harmed by playing the SAME POSITION. Joni could have been more creative by playing Chloe at the 3 and/or Edwards at the 5 to get them on the court at the same time. McMahon played over 30 minutes today. She didn't play poorly, but the team would have benefitted from more minutes from Chloe at the 3 and more minutes for Edwards in the post. I believe today was the fewest minutes she played all tournament. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

But the US did win. Beating Spain on their home court is no small accomplishment. Joni got it done in the end, even if it didn't have to be that close.

I took issue with the fact that Chloe didn't play much in the 2nd half of the 4th quarter. Chloe was both the leading scorer and rebounder going into the 4th, why sit her right as we was starting to pull away. She sat until the last 90 seconds of the game and I think that was a coaching mistake that almost cost us the Gold

The most dominant USA basketball team I've ever seen was the U16 from earlier this summer. They beat Canada 118-36 in the final of the Americup. They were up by 50 at the half. The US pressed relentlessly, full court. Go to any point in the first half and it's like watching Phi Slama Jama from the 80's. Just dunk after dunk.

The US backed off in the 2nd half; we could have won by a 100.

Why don't more USA team press full court? Joni played 10 players in the 4th quarter against Spain. Might as well wear Spain down, if we're going to play so many players.

Ivory Latta from York played for the Heels. Easy to get mixed up, I suppose.
