Want to talk UConn for a minute. They play Texas in a big game this Sunday after an 8 day layoff.

This is still a team wracked by injuries. It began with Jenna El Alfy, their projected starting center having a season ending injury in the U19s This past summer. Ayanna Patterson had a minor procedure in August and has still not been cleared for full practice. Then Azzi Fudd happened. Rather Under the radar is Ice Brady who has clearly not fully recovered from last year’s ACL. AND not even being talked about is the fact that Caroline DuCharme has had severely limited minutes in the first 5 games and been unable to play in the last two games. All this from her concussions that she started having two seasons ago.

Because of all this they are using their 4 freshmen quite a lot, especially for a Geno team.
Also Geno has been so desperate underneath that he has used Amari DeBerry in meaningful minutes to try and shore up interior D and rebounding. She has been consistently bullied by smaller players and is not an answer.

They have decisive losses to NCSU and UCLA. A good win against Maryland which is not strong defensively AND they had Fudd. Most recently they struggled against a decent but by no means great Kansas team.

The Sunday game vs Texas is on ABC. It should tell us a lot about UConn

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I feel sorry for UConn. I really did think they would be the team to beat but that is definitely not the case any more. It still wouldn’t surprise me if they beat Texas. Can’t wait to watch.

Half the women’s team was at the game last night. Tessa without a boot, Ashlynn Swatkins, Chloe Kitts and Good Lord does she have coke bottle glasses, Fulwiley and Jah. They were yukking it up and having great time cheering the men.

Watching some of the North Carolina games, it's clear they are struggling on offense, even in victories. They scored 68 against Elon. In Elon's previous game, NC State scored 90 against Elon. That's a trend throughout North Carolina schedule. They make everyone they play look better defensively than they actually are.

Part of the reason is uncertainty at point guard. MacPherson, their projected starter, has been on a minutes restriction. They have a freshman who can't buy a bucket. So Deja Kelly has been the primary ball handler. There is a world of difference when a player moves to that position out of necessity and a player like Raven who is born to be a point guard. In the Heels last game, Kelly played the 2 mostly. I think we'll see her there against us because our point guard play is so stellar.

To give you an idea of how much they have struggled on offense, Kelly played 40 minutes against Florida Gulf Coast, UNC 3rd game in 3 days. Banghart didn't think she could rest Kelly even a minute and beat FGC and they still didn't win. Just not enough scoring without her on the court.

Another issue is lack of shooting. They shot 2-20 from 3 against Vermont on Friday. On Sunday, UNC shot 2-5 from 3. Nice adjustment, but shooting less 3's is not usually a winning recipe against us. Our last 3 losses were against teams who could spread the floor (Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri).

So an easy win? Not necessarily. The Heels will be the best defensive team we've played so far. I don't expect them to stay packed in a zone like most teams do against us. They have to be aggressive and generate some turnovers. K State's 21 turnovers were the only reasons UNC was in that game. Banghart's goal is to keep the game in reach going into the 4th. We haven't played a single close game this season. Blowouts are easier on my heart, but we need to be challenged because we will play some close games in conference play and definitely in the tournament.

Look for how North Carolina rebounds early. If they aren't competing on the boards, it will be a long night for them. If they can keep it close, the game should be competitive.

Not surprised that Reese is back for the only other ranked matchup of the season. Very interesting that Poole is no longer on the team and losing Smith is a huge blow for the season. This puts LSU in a really serious bind. They need to figure out a way to make Morrow and Reese work together or at the very least get some good production from Del Rosario if the expect to compete with the top teams. But honestly I don't see how the spacing works for that team.

Two most valuable and glue players on that team are Smith(out for the season) and Williams, basically same ppg as Reese and Morrow on significantly less shots.

Reese's leverage increased significantly one it was determined that Smith was out for the season. I think Mulkey would have waited longer to bring her back if Smith was healthy.

Smith and Poole are not insignificant losses, but Mulkey only likes to play 6 anyway. We'll see.

Oh gee, how convenient. She is being made example of against lesser teams but suddenly everyone is happy and together when it comes to the big stage. Its like a player that has some ghost injury during preseason but it magically heals week before first game. Im not buying any crap Mulkey and Reese are selling.
It also gave her the opportunity to work on her grades. You are not reading the fine print. 😎

I am watching the ND Vs Tennessee game. The Vols have controlled this game from the start. Spear is killing them from the arc.

I am surprised Notre dame came back and won. They couldn’t hit a layup in the first half.
ND changes strategy late in third by going inside and their Post players dominated . Tennessee became turnover machine in second half and got outplayed completely in second half. Ball security was the difference in the long run.!

UT's last play was designed to go to Spear, who was open. Puckett's shot was completely uncontested because no one guarded her. lol

Shakey point guard play by the Vols not to execute the play as designed.

The natives are restless here in Tennessee. How in the heck did UT lose that game being up over 10 points most of the game. Kelli Harper is an air-head. She is no way is in the mold of Pat Summit.

Go Carolina beat Heels!!!!

I was talking to someone the other day about our WBB team. I loved Boston and always will. She was and is an amazing player and rep of USC. Is it possible to think that as good and dominant as she was, it could have worked against us based on planning? What I mean is that if she was off last year, who was stepping up on the O side? This year's team has O everywhere and I swear since watching Carolina in the E8 under Walvius, this is the best team I have ever seen here. We have shooters, athleticism, blockers, bigs, passers, speed, and probably more adjectives I can't think of.
Its early and I guess as a coach for now, you pack the inside and make us shoot? Thinking back when Tina Roy was our go to and what we have now, seems like a big gap.

Harper has won 25 games and made it to the sweet 16 two years in a row. They have finished 3rd in the SEC 4 years in a row and the second best SEC record over that period 43-18.

You hear that and think successful program on the rise. But they have NO foundation. She has abjectly failed at recruiting HS talent. EVEN failing at attracting top in state talent. It has been one portal fix after another. 7 portal recruits on a 12 player roster. She has yet to put a decent, not good or great, just decent PG on the court in 5 years!! In their last 20 games against top 25 opponents they are 4-16.

I agree. Boston was so dominant and no question the leader of the team from day 1. Last year in the final 4 she got in early foul trouble and the rest of the team started to press. This year if any player, including Kamilla, has to sit because of fouls, we have several options. Much more balanced.
