Yeah, I was going to point that out as well. I assumed it's a way to keep the lights on. Surely they they get paid something, however small, for appearing on SECN+.
Probably get more from the schools they come to play to serve as gloried practices to get those schools ready for conference season.

I believe this is the 3rd time her right knee has been injured. I'm not sure how one mentally deals with that. Wish her the best.

As for UCONN, they've never had her long enough to really miss her. There's enough talent on the roster to still be a top seed. They'll have to be more gritty; they can't just outshoot everyone.

You can take very little from this game. It's a glorified practice where you get to see all of your players in a game-like situation and rest the ones that needs some recovery time from early-season injuries. Who cares if we beat this team by 30 or 70 points. Just get the "W" and continue to prepare for your next real game against UNC.
I would disagree to a certain extent. South Dakota St. was rated ahead of 9 SEC teams in some preseason polls. They have qualified for the NCAA tourney in 11 of the 14 years they have been eligible to compete and reached the sweet 16 in '21-'22. I think this team will destroy many others by 30+ points if they stay healthy. I don't anticipate them going 0'fer from 3 in any more games this year!

Leading the nation in blocks off the bench.

She played almost the entire 4th quarter against SD State. Don't think Chloe played at all. The jackrabbits only scored 6 points in the quarter. Ashlyn had a particularly nasty block on a shot from behind the 3 point line.

When the team was up double digits Dawn used to go heavy on the defense in the 4th a couple of years ago with Lele and Amihere. Watkins and Jah will see a lot of 4th quarter action this season, I suspect.

South Dakota State didn't score for the last 8 minutes of the game.

That's horrible. Feel so bad for her and the basketball world. A talent but can't seem to stay healthy
I worry about our own injuries and leave the angst over injured players from other teams to their partisans.

Don't misconstrue that, either. I'm not pulling for people to get hurt. We've got a small roster and at least two compromised players. That's what worries me.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Working on her press team defense. This team can put together some interesting lineups for every occasion

St. Augustine was a notable man of faith, but inability to control a situation does not cancel concern - at least not in me. Probably not in him, either. Beyond that, whatever happens happens. You go on from there.

Those words are from Reinhold Niebuhr, not Saint Augustine.

But I'm pretty sure Augustine didn't lose any sleep over sportsball.. Priorities

She blocked that shot so hard you could hear it in the stands. I’m 18 rows up!

A quote from St Augustine that might be applicable

“Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.”

Look at You, Quoting Reinhold Niebuhr!! One of my favorite theologians! If you are weirdly interested there is a wonderful collection of essays entitled “Basketball and Philosophy”. The book uses basketball to explore all kinds of moral, philosophical and theological issues. A great but uneven read

After all Basketball was invented by a Canadian Presbyterian minister

Yes a concern for sure, especially with a smaller roster. Pointing out w/Fudd what a shame she might never reach her potential. We'll never know what Marcus Lattimore could have done if he had not suffered those awful injuries. Might be the same with Azzi.

Anybody watching Tenn-Indiana? Rickea out again and they are down 16 in the 4th. I figured with Rickea out that Jewel would be a big contributor but she hasn’t scored well tonight or last couple of games.
UT's guards are not very good defensively. Jackson's return won't solve that problem. I guess they'll just have to outscore their opponents. Will be interesting to see how they try to defend Hidalgo.

Yes, I agree Spear needs to score more. She doesn't give them much on the defensive end; she needs to contribute on offense. We know she can score.

What's interesting about the 2025 class is ESPN only ranks one player from SC, NC & GA in the top 40 and she's already committed to Stanford. That is definitely an anomaly. It's been a while since we didn't offer at least one player from those 1 of those 3 states. Good news is we recruit nationally (and internationally) now.

That’s Hailee Swain and it was rumored a while back that she had decommitted from Stanford (before we knew about Stanford to the ACC). It will be interesting to see if she sticks with that commitment.

Does anybody know why we are not playing in a tournament this weekend? Is there a limit of how many times in a certain number of years we can play in one?

Anybody got a read on the tea leaves on this?
Based on that last statement, is it a team vs. Reese blame game?

LSU All-American forward Angel Reese has been the topic of conversation over the last handful of days after missing the Tigers last two games against Southeastern and Texas Southern.

Now, as the Tigers gear up for a Friday afternoon game against Niagara in the Cayman Islands, Reese will miss another game.

Reese is not with the program on their Thanksgiving tournament trip to the Cayman Islands with a matchup against Niagara set for Friday followed by a showdown against Virginia on Saturday.

“She just understands the spotlight is on her,” Mulkey told Taylor Rooks ahead of the Colorado game. “I don’t think she realized how quickly it came in how hard it came at her. But as I tell her, to whom much is given much as expected. You brought this, you earned this. You wanted this, now grow up and lead us and she wants to continue to get better in her game. She wants to continue to get better with her leadership.

“But it’s not the Angel Reese show. We have some pretty good talent in that locker room with her.”

Does anyone know if it's possible to watch UCONN/UCLA or FSU/Stanford? ESPN lists no TV for either game. Shame if we can't watch those games.

Miss St plays Clemson tonight. I'm interested in the outcome of that one as well.
