Imagine Fulwiley and Maddie McDaniel on the court at the same time
I think Maddie is in the same league as Jaloni Cambridge but she is 5’10 not 5’5”
Imagine Fulwiley and Maddie McDaniel on the court at the same time
We'll guard Pili man-to-man, like we do everyone we play. I think the best defense against her is a good offense. She has a tendency to get in foul trouble. She picked two quick fouls against Baylor in the first 5 minutes and had to sit out the rest of the half. She fouled out against LSU last year in the tournament. I expect all our bigs will play in the first half. I've often been wrong, though, predicting Feagin will play. But I think it would be smart to throw different types of players at Pili. It's also important to keep fresh players on the court because one of her weakness is getting back in transition.re: the Utah matchup:
Te-Hina Paopao has played against them several times with Oregon, including three games last year. I would assume she will be very vocal in the preparations with her teammates due to her familiarity with the Utes. Also, they played St. Joes last night - won comfortably but scored well below their average. The only team of comparable talent they have played against is Baylor ( they lost) also scoring well below their average.
I am really looking forward to the match-up, particularly how we choose to guard Alissa Pili. She is a fantastic player and will be a challenge for our bigs. They like to play fast and shoot the three - if they get hot, this game may set a scoring record.
2:30 ET - broadcast on ESPN.....What time we playin,?
Who else would Cardoso guard? Not a great start. NO defense! Could be worse if Utah hit some easy layups. Why would Cardoso be guarding Pilli? Head scratcher to me. Time for some adjustments....
I guess that is why she is on the bench now....Who else would Cardoso guard?
You are correct, she's flopping and the referee's are refusing to call it. Peele uses her rear end to push the defensive player every time.Refs are calling this game similar to the semifinal game last year vs Iowa. Their #22 has picked up 3 flopping fouls already!!
It's quite ridiculous at this rate.Gamecocks lead 27-16 after one period. Raven had an exciting open court steal for a break away layup in the closing seconds, and totally muffed the layup. Still, after that miss, the Gamecocks have shot 11-15 (.733) for the 1st quarter......
This game made me squirm a little. Honest question: are we improving?
I agree with you here. I feel that the team is a little too overconfident. They seem to take a play off here and there thinking that their talent will overcome everything. When they are "on", they are really good. Then the lackadaisical streak hits and you wind up with nearly 30 turnovers. Utah was down two starters. Things could have gone either way if they are in the game. This game made me squirm a little. Honest question: are we improving?
Another great defensive performance! And we did it like we always do it....no double teams. So once again a star for the opposing team scores 37 points and at the end of the game Utah scored 26 points below their average. We simply don't let the complimentary players get their usual open looks. We forced them to create their own shots and they couldn't.
Pili hit three 3's, the rest of the team made 2.

Caitlin will hog the ball. That's all you need to know.Indiana just got the #1 lottery pick for the Draft. Caitlin Clark uniting with Aliyah Boston? Just don't seem right!
FWIW, and I am no expert by any means, but we are playing good teams with our new team. Utah had 4-5 players who could hit the three forcing Cardoso and other bigs to defend the perimeter. We weathered that even playing sloppy, turnover plagued ball. And how many other teams will have that 3 point shooting ability? My biggest concern is our point guard play recently. Missing late free throws, unforced turnovers. A champion needs a good point guard. See Stanford last year. And Fulwiley, as electric as she is, needs to protect the ball. She seems to play pretty good D to me. I thought she was called twice today for fouls defending a shot that were not fouls. This game made me squirm a little. Honest question: are we improving?
Some discussion if Clark will return to college or not. I guess it would be a pay cut to go pro, but she has so many endorsement deals, she won't be hurting for money. If she loves the Midwest, Indiana seems like the perfect fit for her. But I don't pretend to know her. We'll see.Indiana just got the #1 lottery pick for the Draft. How much better would Utah be at full strength?Simple answerYes and No. Turnovers have reappeared but rebounding and D are very good. 9-0 with 6 wins against teams who will make the dance. Utah and ND are 3&5 in the net. Clemson will be an NIT team. Uneven performances but 5 new starters and young.
She won't be taking a pay cut, if anything likely make more money with her complete focus and time would be dedicated to basketball. Caitlin does love the Midwest she chose Iowa because she wanted to stay in the region, but that was 4 years ago so things may have changed. Some discussion if Clark will return to college or not. Better but not sure it would have made a difference today. Pilli had a big day today for several reasons 1. She’s great 2. DS basically said “I’ll be damned if Utah will beat me with 3’s” Utah averages 32 3pt attempts and 15.5 makes. They were 5-20 today. We never doubled her.How much better would Utah be at full strength?
I agree, other than the turnovers, we played a gritty game. I note that teams that run a center open offense against us are hard to defend.I thought we did pretty well overall, the officials decided to make the games about themselves and I definitely think it changed how we played. Kamilla was handcuffed on what she was able to do along with our other posts with clear flopping be rewarded. But it was a true team effort and everybody stepped up at some point in the game to get the win. Another gritty win for a young team against a crowd that was mostly against them.
Yeah Pili has to get picked up by the right team for her to work at the next level but I'm sure she gave the scouts something to think about.I agree, other than the turnovers, we played a gritty game. I note that teams that run a center open offense against us are hard to defend.
Although, we knew that Utah's foward was a flopper, we continued to play in there hands. Pillia is as advertised, but i don't see her excelling in the WNBA.
Unfortunately, Utah won't ever be at full strength since Kneepkens is out for the season. They're tough, not sure they have enough to win the PAC-12. That conference is the one to watch this season.Better but not sure it would have made a difference today. Pilli had a big day today for several reasons 1. She’s great 2. 3. The refereeing was whistle happy. It was fairly consistent but the style they dictatated with their calls aided Utah
I think UCLA is the clear frontrunner out there.Unfortunately, Utah won't ever be at full strength since Kneepkens is out for the season. They're tough, not sure they have enough to win the PAC-12. That conference is the one to watch this season.
Yes, I think it will be us and UCLA in the finals. As a matter of fact, I hope so!!! East vs West...will garner a lot of TV viewers.I think UCLA is the clear frontrunner out there.
