Fulwiley has a shot at a triple double. Down a point guard, so someone will have to play the point regardless of the score in the 4th. Sorry, PC.

59-20 Gamecocks lead at the half. A stat-padder for South Carolina. Milaysia, who got the start for Raven today, hit the buzzer-beater to end the half. She has 12 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks in 12 minutes, Ashlyn has 10 pts and 8 rebounds in 9 minutes, and Chloe has 9 pts and 6 boards in 10 minutes. Your Gamecock team of the future, right there folks....

Gamecocks win 99-29 in a route......

I just realized - Presbyterian played a game YESTERDAY as well, a 63-52 win over South Carolina State in Clinton. Don't see too many back-to-back games in a non-tournament situation. Don't know if the SCST game was a make-up for an earlier postponed game, or if this was scheduled this way to begin with.

Always hard to gauge how B2B games will play out, especially for the 2nd game of that series: will the team that played it come out more prepared and "loosened up" for the 2nd game, or will they come out a bit tired and low stamina, especially if the games were tough physical games. Don't know how physically tiring the SCST game was, but I know USC was the toughest, deepest, most talented opponent the Blue Hose will play this season (the Gamecocks had 7 players to score in dbl digits today).

Also the Gamecocks could've come into today's game a bit lethargic being their first game in about a week. But of course, none of this may have mattered at all, as the Gamecocks won the game in a run-away route.....

I clearly missed something. Why didn't Raven play today? The announcer said she was having a rest day.....never heard of that before.

Dawn said she's been playing too many minutes. 30 minutes per game leads the team. Destanni averaged 31 per game two years ago, but she sat out several games that season due to injury.

We are thin at guard and with Tessa out for several games, Raven and Paopao have been logging a lot of minutes. Raven didn't look sharp at the end of the Utah games, so I don't blame coach for resting her in a game where she was clearly not needed.

We are in love with Fulwiley and should be, but this season may go down as the year of the freshman guards. All 14 players listed below were in the top 25 recruits of HoopGurlz class of 2023

Juju Watkins USCw 27 ppg 7 reb

Hannah Hidalgo ND 23.6 ppg 5.5 reb 5.4 assists 6 steals

Taliah Scott Ark 24.5 ppg

Mikaylah Williams LSU 19.1 ppg

Milayasia Fulwiley 12.5 ppg 3 assists 3 reb

Zoe Brooks NCSU 10 ppg 4.6 reb 4.1 assists

Kymora Johnson UVA 11 ppg 3.6 reb 5 assists

Sahara Williams OK 11.6 ppg 6.6 reb 2.4 assists

in addition KK Arnold and Ashlynn Shade at UConn, Riley Nelson at Maryland, Laila Reynolds at UF, Tessa Johnson South Carolina, Jada Williams Arizona are making significant contributions for their teams.

It was. Somewhere along the line, a reporter misnamed him and it stuck. To me, he’ll always be known as Baseline Jesus.
We also referred to him as the stomper back when I was at Carolina (‘94-‘98)

On another note, I just checked box score of LSU game and was surprised to see they had only scored 36 points at the half as of course they are playing another cupcake. Mikaylah williams was 0-7 in 1st half. I guess even she can have a bad game!

7 minutes left in LSU game. They are up 39, all five starters in the game and zone trap full court press after made baskets.

PC was 280 in Massey rankings
Northwestern St 317

AND Mulkey gets ejected on disputed charge call and announcers say “Oh what passion from Coach Mulkey, always sticking up for her team”🤮🤮

last starter leaves the game with 1:49 left in the game.

Just saw that and now they are arguing about foul calls when they are up by 40 with 2 minutes to go. Players are trying to get the crowd involved in booing refs. Sheesh

Lots of games to play until we play LSU, but be certain, KM has that game circled & that night has the potential to get testy/nasty. KM & her cajuns fans may make that Missouri road game a few years back look like a tabernacle choir practice .

Great matchup between UCLA and Ohio State today. I think I'm going to root for the Bruins in this one. I get the feeling when the committee determines the top seeds for the tournament, the PAC-12 will get the 2 top seeds in Seattle and the Albany seeds will be between everyone else. Texas is a bit of a wildcard. So OSU is a bigger potential threat to us than UCLA.

I have a bad feeling that if we're a number one seed and Connecticut isn't, if they put us in the Albany regional we'll be in the same bracket as Connecticut just like they did NC State a couple of years ago. Really hope I am wrong on that one.

Watching UCLA -OSU. UCLA scares me a little 😬 but this could be bc OSU has looked underwhelming.

UCLA has good pieces but they do not have a bench. I am not too scared, We have the one thing that bring UCLA back to earth that other teams do not, Cardoza to match the height of Betts.
UCLA has played us tough even without Betts. This will be a challenging match for us. We will win. I like Coach Close. I think Kamilla will defeat Betts like she has in international play. Those two guards are tough but we match up well there too. I think our 4 spot players will have a big impact too.

Just a comment on attendance at #2 UCLA VS #13 Ohio St. game on Monday night. Other than Ohio St.’s home game vs Iowa, this is their premium matchup of the season. Columbus Metro area of over 2M, OSU has 50k undergraduates. Arena seats 20K. Tickets bought for last night 6,800. And OSU was bragging about the attendance.

Tickets sold for Gamecocks vs PC 15,176.

Yes, I know, nobody cares about WBB. Except the Carolina fams. If Dawn Staley offers you a scholarship why would you ever say no thanks?

addendum
Last season we averaged 12,942
This season through 6 OOC games 15,700

Dawn has talked about how Sakima Walker has been steadily progressing, here are some numbers to back it up.
Per 40 minutes of play 15 ppg and 8 rebounds on 67% FG 92% FT
I have liked the confidence she's been gaining lately. Could be an important piece come conference play.

I'm pretty sure Kamilla is likely leaving briefly in February to ensure Brazil qualifies for the Olympics, so she might really play a huge part in her absence.

From what I've seen of Bowling Green, they have guards who can shoot. They push the pace and shoot the first open 3 they get, even against a team like Iowa. I can't see them slowing the pace down just because we're the opponent. It's not their style. If you're Fred Chmiel, you hope your shooters can get hot on the home court.

On the other end of the court, they lack the height and athleticism necessary to be a good defensive team. Teams are shooting 48% from 2 against them. Chloe and Watkins should have favorable matchups on the offensive end. Great opportunity for them tonight.

Crap, it’s Feb 8-11!! That would include Mizzou 2/8 and UConn2/11. Maybe OM 2/4 and UT 2/15

Some Maddy highlights. Would love to know who she reminds yall of … gamecock or non.

First thing that just leaps out at me is how physically strong she is. She will have no problem playing the 2 as well as point. Can’t wait to see how she is on D. I can envision her as a shut down defender. Really good speed and handle but didn’t see the fluidity or change of pace Fulwiley has. But obviously it’s a very limited sample
