Speaking of ... what do y'all think the issue is with Janiah Barker? I thought she oozed potential in high school but doesn't seem to be capitalizing on it at A&M.
Too emotional, which seems to translate into excessive turnovers and cheap fouls. I thought she played good defense on Rickea Jackson yesterday, though. We might see a Janiah Barker/Ashlyn Watkins tussle in our game. lol

Looking over Kentucky's stats, what stands out is their opponents are shooting 53.2% from 2. That is REAL bad. We lead the nation in that stat, holding our opponents to 31.1% from 2. The problem is the Cats are undersized at every position. Petty plays big due to her strength and athleticism, but she's at a significant height disadvantage against Cardoso tonight.

I'm kind of surprised that Eniya Russell doesn't play more for them considering all their deficiencies. We know the issues with her, turnovers in particular, but she still has the 3rd best PER rating of any player on their team. Once you get by Petty and Scherr, I suppose it doesn't much matter who plays.

The only suspense for me tonight is do we see the Paopao/Bree/Tessa combination. I believe the last game was the first time Bree and Tessa have played together this season. Coach usually just straight subs Tessa for Bree. I thought they were very effective together. Fulwiley's been struggling and the problem that presents is she's so ball dominant. We performed better with Paopao as the primary ball-handler and two effective off-the-ball players in Hall and TJ. It's certainly the hope in this game that there will be time in the 4th for Fulwiley to take over the ball-handling duties and maybe get out of her slump. Anyway, that's something interesting to look for tonight.

If y'all want some giggles go to the Tiger droppings board. Many posters are saying Kim called that last play to be a teaching moment for Reese. They said it was to let her know she isn't a superstar 😂
For kicks and giggles, go on that site and say, "we know Reese is not a superstar, that designation belongs to Catlin"....that would cause a stir on the board...lol

46-21 lead at the halftime. A game that has a lot of highlights in the first 20 minutes: Milaysia leads the team with 10 pts on 3-5 shooting, 3-4 from behind the 3-pt. line; Tessa is 2nd with 9 pts on 3-3 shooting - all from behind the arc; and Ashlyn with the open-court steal of the ball, the full-court dribble to the other end, and the relatively easy one-handed slam dunk (an actual SLAM dunk) that brought the crowd to its feet. Kamilla also has 8 pts, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists in 15 minutes of play....

Te-Hina and Bree - both nationally top-5 3-point FG % shooters this season - are a combined 0-4 thus far tonight, and the team is still 6-12 (.500) from behind the arc in the 1st half. Scary......

UK just does not have the players to compete with the upper echelon of the SEC. Arky still baffles me. They went to BAMA and won...Go figure!!

Poor Maddie Scherr: 3 of 19 from the field, 5 turnovers, -59 when she was on the court. That's a tough night. Since we don't double team, someone had to create off the dribble and she was the only Wildcat with a chance. She could be a starter on some very good teams. She deserves better.

Where do you get the +/- stat?

I felt bad for Maddie, she is a very good player who was hounded on D and had a very bad night. I wonder if TeHina gave her a hug after the game, they were team mates at Oregon for 2 years. In the midst of her bad night i was surprised how well Tessa guarded her. I tend to think of Tessa as not a good defender, yet. But she held Scherr scoreless.

Took me a minute. Scherr’s night reminded me of our game against Duke in the 2019-20 season.
Haley Gorecki was their star player, was all ACC that year, third team All American averaged 19 points and 7 rebounds. She was 2-13 that night for 5 points with 2 rebounds 4 fouls and 9 turnovers in 30 minutes. She had like four of her shots blocked. We won 89-46. Their coach took her out with about 8 minutes left. I couldn’t tell if she was going to slug someone or cry. She had been Brea Bealed

I saw Scherr show some frustration going into a timeout last night. Can't blame her. It also looked like her and Fulwiley may have had words. I'll have to check the replay.

We played last night like it was personal against Kentucky. Absolutely ferocious.

btw, did anyone who played last night for either team also played in the SECCG two years ago? Cardoso, for sure. Bree, maybe? The roster turnover is amazing these days.

I encourage everyone to watch the replay beginning in the 3rd quarter and focus on Raven Johnson. We were +50 in the 19 minutes she played last night. +50 in 19 minutes! I don't throw around the word "perfect" very often, but if she didn't play perfect she was really close.

Scherr blocked Fulwiley’s shot about midway through the 4th quarter and very calmly walked away. In setting up for the inbounds Fulwiley came behind Scherr and bumped her intentionally and pretty dang hard, honestly it was totally uncalled for on Fulwiley’s part. I think she was embarrassed. Scherr turned around and said something. Dawn was on the sideline glaring at Fulwiley, Dawn was not pleased.

Left over stat, Petty came into the game averaging 19.7 points and 18.7 rebounds in her first three SEC games, she got 2 points and 5 rebounds.

Alyssa Lang just seems to be more and more attractive as time goes by. She really does a great job and I am so proud of her .
I don’t know if any of you all noticed this during the women’s game vs uk….. the halftime show was Alyssa Lang and Steffi Sorensen from Charlotte. Now mind you, Steffi Sorensen was one of the announcers at the Coliseum during our game. I had to rewind it because I thought I was losing my mind. Then it hit me. They did not mention our game or show any highlights during their segment from Charlotte. They only recapped the games from the day before. So evidently Steffi filmed that earlier in the day, and then drove down to Columbia from Charlotte.

One reason there is a significant difference between our +/- with Raven in the game and when Fulwiley is the primary ball handler is a play like the one below. Literally the best 3 point shooter in the nation is completely unguarded on the wing and Fulwiley doesn't see her (I have no idea what Eniya Russell is doing on defense lol) .

A veteran, pass-first point guard like Raven would have found PaoPao there. Fulwiley has a tendency to opt for a more difficult play when an easy option is available, which leads to turnovers. She's not used to being surrounded by this level of talent. I'm sure in high school she felt the need to create plays on her own. She'll improve with time. It's a learning process and she's got the best teacher on how to play the position.
