Kentucky down 30, could be 50, and their coach is bitching at the officials. Lol Geezus, it's not the refs fault. Lol

Gamecocks win 103-55. The Wildcats shot better after halftime, especially in the 3rd Period, but the Gamecocks shot 23-31 (.742) from the field, 5-6 (.833) from beyond the 3-pt. line, and 10-12 (.833) from the charity stripe for the entire 2nd half to pull away.

Ajai Petty led Kentucky with 16 pts on 6-10 shooting, with 8 rebounds, but she could have scored much more, shooting an abysmal 4-14 from the FT line. Saniah Tyler scored 15 pts on 6-17 shooting.

The Gamecocks were led by Bree Hall's 18 pts on 8-10 shooting, but overall the scoring was very balanced with 6 Gamecocks in double-digits, plus Raven Johnson with 9 pts. Joining Hall was Fulwiley with 17 pts on 2-4 shooting, but also a red-hot 12-12 at the FT line. Feagin added 16 pts on 6-12 shooting - 5-7 after starting 1-5 - with 6 boards, 5 blocks, 4 assists, and 1 steal. The points and blocks were career highs for her.

Ashlyn Watkins added 13 pts on 6-6 shooting, with 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Te-Hina Paopao added 11 points on 4-5 shooting - 3-4 from the 3-pt. line, and all three 3-pt. makes were on 3 consecutive shot attempts from her in the 3rd period - with 4 assists, 1 streal and 1 block. And Chloe Kitts contributed 10 pts on 5-10 shooting, with 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks.

Overall the Gamecocks had 37 rebounds, 30 assists with 15 turnovers, 11 steals and 10 blocks. In Kamilla's absence, Watkins, Feagin, and Kitts combined for 39 pts on 17-28 (.607) shooting, 21 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 3 steals.....

I’m like DS in that I tend to see our flaws and say we have not played a current top 10 team this season. Are we really that good?
That's a little misleading. Another way of phrasing it might be "We prevent teams from being top 10" because we keep beating teams who would otherwise be in the top 10 currently. LSU (13th), UConn (15th), Utah (18th) and perhaps Notre Dame (19th) might all be top 10 had they not lost to us. Without a doubt, they would be top 10 had they actually beaten us.

Kentucky game thoughts:

* Everyone in the starting lineup played extremely well.

- After struggling for a couple of games, Bree has put together two excellent back-to-back games. Perhaps the best game of her career today. She was 8-10 from the field and 2-3 from behind the arc. Her defense on Scherr was outstanding. We finished +49 in her 27 minutes on the floor!

- Chloe played the kind of game we need her to play against smaller teams. I understand she'll be at a disadvantage against a team like LSU, but she should be able to hold her own against Kentucky. She did more than hold her own; she grabbed 12 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and had 5 assists to go along with 10 points.

- Watkins was dominant in her brief 19 minutes of play. We were +31 with her on the court. Petty could get nothing going with Watkins in the game.

* There is a post on another thread where it's said that we have some players who have been playing hero ball lately. The poster didn't name names, but I took it as a veiled reference to Fulwiley. I think the poster fails to appreciate that Fulwiley's role is to come in and make things happen. Our problem last year was players like Fletcher and Saxton could be ghosts out there at times. Fulwiley is going to make her presence felt, believe that. She gets to the foul line like no one else on our team. She was 12 of 12 from the line today. We finished 19 of 21 as a team. 😲 (Kentucky was 7 of 18).

* Sania Feagin had a slow start offensively, but she turned it on in the 2nd half to have a nice overall game.

* I hope we don't need any significant minutes from Sakima Walker in the post-season. She simply doesn't rebound well enough. It's concerning.

UCONN and LSU are top 10 teams by NET. But the eye test alone should be sufficient to tell those are 2 of the top 10 teams in the nation.

Kim doesn't do anything to deter that type of showboating. In fact, with all the standing over players and taunting, I think she encourages it. How they don't get more technicals, I don't know. During the UNC game, a couple of our players, I think Raven and Chloe, were chirping at the UNC bench and Dawn shut that down immediately. Hard to know where Sarah will end up because we don't know what she's looking for. Her parents are vets at the recruiting process and games played so I'm sure they can help her navigate. Hoping it's us
Too bad Frank didn't shut down the chirping 50+ years ago.......

But they did play us and they lost! I’ll listen to your point as it has some merit. Utah and ND even with victories over us would not be top 10. UConn might sneak in at 10. LSU would move into the top 10 but not the top 5.

We scheduled hard but injuries have diminished the talent at Utah, UConn, LSU, ND and even S. Dakota St. Maryland just collapsed as to what they were expected to be. Let me be clear, we are clearly the best team in the country and have played a tough schedule. That said, we have not faced anybody that I feel will make the Final Four.

Bama scored 87 today against State. They scored 44 against us on Thursday.

In the games in which we played without Cardoso--Mizzou, UCONN, Bama, UK-- the defense has been ridiculous. All '4 out' teams, so we might be better on the defensive end with Watkins at the 5. Obviously, we need her defensive presence against more physical teams like LSU and even Georgia.

LSU has their flaws but I wouldn't count them out just yet. I can see them making a run to the Final Four. We can't pick the last 4 teams until we see the brackets but I wouldn't bet against Virginia Tech either....

MacKenly Randolph, 6-1 F, Sierra Canyon School (Chatsworth, CA), has announced her commitment to Louisville WBB (over Michigan State & Notre Dame); Randolph is the 5th member of Louisville's 2024 class, joining Izela Arenas, Anaya Hardy, Isla Juffermans, and Tajianna Roberts

It looked like they took Eniya to the locker room after she shot her free throws. Did anyone else notice that?

Well, the issue is irrelevant this week as both LSU and UConn have re-entered the top 10.

As for LSU and the Final Four, I think the defending national champions, and current top-10 team, would have to be considered a strong contender to get back to the Final Four. I think our win at LSU a few weeks ago is a candidate for best win of the WBB season.

I was just thinking about if our win was the best of the season. I believe UCLA beat Ohio State on the road. But I wouldn't favor Ohio State winning at LSU if they played right now. So I'm not sure what other game qualifies as a better win.

Also, what fan base wanted to win a particular game this year more than the LSU fan base wanted to win that one? It's not simply a matter of beating a great team on the road, but beating a great team on the road in front of a sold-out arena (I believe tickets were going for $300) when all of those fans had that game circled on their calendar since the beginning of the year.

Correct in that UCLA beat Ohio State in Columbus. OSU is now ranked #2 and has only two other losses in Vegas to Southern Cal and on the road against Michigan. Best win of the year? Beauty contest of USC vs. LSU or UCLA vs. Ohio State. I would say UCLA winning on the road against what is now the #2 team is a better win by the numbers. I would say the manner USC won and the atmosphere in Baton Rouge gives USC a compelling argument.

A few years back, I posted a link to a website where you could put in hypothetical game results and it would give you a SEC tournament bracket. It must have been the old site because I can't find it on here.

I am curious about what the bracket might look like. I believe UT and Auburn are the 3rd and 4th best teams in the conference and right now we could possibly face them on Friday and Saturday. Beating UT 3 times in a few weeks would not be easy. And Auburn is a tenacious defensive team (they forced A&M into 29 turnovers yesterday) with an elite scorer in Scott-Grayson. I'm not so much concerned about us beating them as I am LSU not being challenged on Friday and Saturday. We want the Bayou Barbies to be as fatigued as possible on Sunday.

They better soak it in and enjoy while they can. Next the SEC will be a much tougher experience for them.

North Carolina and Virginia Tech get together at 1:30 today....I am really interested in watching this game because I am getting this strange feeling we could possibly see Va. tech in the tournament.
