Shout out to little Andrew Jackson High School for winning the 2A title. They CRUSHED opponents in that classification. They also beat 5A schools like Dorman and Lexington by double digits. They played Camden within 4 points, which is the closest any South Carolina came to beating the Bulldogs. Very impressive.

Okay. I will give him that. I just could not let the "as we have all year" comment go past without really looking at all of the data, which supports that fact that this team is a very good shooting team and probably the best ever in terms of shooting since Dawn has been here.

My comment about shooting poorly was for yesterday's game only. (I read somewhere in GCC that our shooting % YESTERDAY vs TN was 5% below our previous worst game of the year. I have not confirmed, but suspect that to be accurate.) The sentence which you did not comprehend immediately followed the sentence that "TN played hard" and it was in response to a post about the SEC Network's snide remark on the crawler about not getting a double digit margin of victory vs. TN. I was complementing our team for overcoming a singular poor shooting performance with another W and an undefeated regular season.

I really like PaoPao and for selfish reasons I want her to stay but I honestly think she should leave. She's playing much improved defense and she's leading the nation in 3 point FG%. This year's draft is looking to be less guard oriented so I think it's best she leave now with everything lining up for her especially at her size.

Next year's draft is shaping up to be really loaded between traditional seniors and Covid seniors all competing for limited roster spots. Next year she would be competing with Hall, Bueckers, Fudd, Rori Harmon, Olivia Miles ( potentially), Amoore (potentially) and more.
You have some of your years off, Miles for example.

I didn't like it. I wanted to pulverize this particular opponent on Senior Day. Instead, they will go away feeling somehow validated. We encouraged every half-decent opponent we will play moving forward.
No worries king, we probably needed that wake up call, for both the players and the staff, it was preferable to a loss but maybe got the same needed reaction.

Olivia left school early like Chloe did, she will be eligible for the WNBA draft if she chooses next year ( 4 years removed from high school). I said potentially for both Miles and Fudd because they could stay another year or leave if they choose due to medical redshirts.

The thing I took away from CDS’s presser posted above was that this year’s team does not take everything as seriously as last year’s team did, which if you think about it, may be a silver lining if they don’t get encumbered by the whole undefeated thing. Maybe, hope so anyway, always good to stay loose.

Exactly. This team plays fierce, and really well together, but they do not play like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders which is what last year's team seemed to do, mostly because they came into the season stating they wanted to go wire to wire undefeated. This team seems like, because of their youth, they are more lighthearted away from the court, thus they have a lot of energy during the games. Kind of like kids who run around all day because they do not know what it feels like to be tired. lol

I guess I can stop sizing up possible guards in the portal. lol

* It's good that we're short on guards this season. Paopao return is unlikely to send anyone to the portal. Tess is Paopao's best friend on the team and Fulwiley is making bank. If Fulwiley's not already making the most NIL money on the team, she will by next year. McDaniel will either return to basketball slowly next season or redshirt.

* We basically traded Saniya Rivers for Paopao. Not directly, of course. But would Te-Hina have transferred here if Rivers was still on the roster? I don't think so. I was, and still am, a big fan of Rivers, but her skill set was too similar to Raven's. It worked out for everyone involved imo. A portal success story.

* I did not criticize Talaysia Cooper for transferring. And those Vol fans who still insist that Cooper always wanted to go to Tennessee but was pressured into coming here are kidding themselves. Cooper saw the writing on the wall during the summer and made what turned out to be a wise decision. No hard feelings.

This, That and the other

Paopao, just Wow wow! I was so excited about her choosing us. I was very vocal from the start that she was a much better get than HVL.

I love that she and her family have found a basketball home, an outside basketball community and spiritual anchors here in Columbia. They seem to just be wonderful people and they enhance our city and program by much more than points on the scoreboard.

Watch the video from Tehina’s off season work outs. Very dedicated athlete. She knows her weaknesses and attacks them. Another year will make her much more WNBA ready.

5 guards next season. All of them can play PG or SG. Don’t forget Tessa was PG. All have a little something unique.

Dear Sarah Strong,

Fly into the nest. It’s more than just basketball here. It’s mentoring from Dawn and a great staff, it’s 18K loving you on game day, it’s Sandstorm, it’s Sheila Foster, Tiffany Mitchell, A’ja, Boston, it’s the moms and dads of players, it’s Catholic schoolgirls(Watkins), it’s city phenoms(Fulwiley) it’s Samoans, Brazilians, even Minnesotans and Texans. It’s Home.

Paopao is a Polynesian goddess. Too much?

I know, it’s TMI, but you asked.

TeHina literally translates as

Te “The” Hina “Moon Godess”

Pao has multiple meanings in Polynesian language 1. It is a variety of sweet potato 2. It can mean to rebuke or chastise 3. To strike at or to beat 4. It is finished or complete

TeHina Paopao- The Moon Goddess who completes us! That might be a fair translation. She is the youngest and only daughter in her family, I do believe.

Hina: Ancestral Moon Goddess

Hina – the goddess most widely recognized across Polynesia – features in several mythologies across the region. She was given many different identities and powers and it can be difficult to identify a single Hina in Hawaiian mythology. But she is most commonly associated with the moon and is recognized as the opposite of her husband (and brother) Kū.

The name Hina in Other Polynesian translations suggest that Hina means silver-gray and in the Hawaiian language Mahina means moon.

As goddess of the moon, Hina protects travelers at night – a responsibility which gave her the additional name Hina-nui-te-araara (Great Hina the Watchwoman).

She is also the patroness of tapa cloth beaters – a cloth made from tree bark – as she created the first tapa cloth. Invocations were made to Hina before work began and she would watch over the beaters who worked their tapa cloths under the light of the moon.

Her final major association (though she had many) is linked directly with her husband Kū – Hina is associated with female fertility and Kū with male fertility.

Hina, like Kāne, Lono, and Kū, was said to be a primordial deity who had existed for eternity and had changed form many times – she had been there when Kāne, Lono, and Kū had brought light to shine on the world. She was said to have been the first to arrive on the Hawaiian islands, even before Kāne and Lono.

So the best player off the bench for one of the worst teams gets 6th player of the year? Something about that doesnt make much sense to me. I know she was a pretty good player but 6ht player is supposed to be the one who comes in and reignites or keeps things going. You cant reignite what never got going nor can you keep something going that never started which both of those represent Florida this year.
Oh well, another time of nothing making sense. Also best overall team that never lost still gets little respect for its players. It shows how more important it is to be a great TEAM than a group of people with one great player.

Disappointed for Ashlyn Watkins missing out on the 6th Player of the Year. Hope to see great things from her in the next month and watch out for next year. She is a worker and will be a beast.
This to me is a gyp. But if she stays the course, she will be a premier player in the SEC and beyond. She has wonderful skills already .

I would also say that Tessa Johnson made more of an impact that Del Rosario did as freshman but yet she doesnt make the freshman team. Del Rosario barely played more than usually 6-7 minutes a game and did little while in there. Watkins not on defensive team is a crime. I really hope she shows out in an insane way in Conf tournament. She should show out all the way and get tournament MVP.

I don't follow them that closely, but 90-3 over the last 3 regular seasons is pretty stout.

Re 6th Woman of the year. There seemed to be two deserving players, but I would have given it to Watkins:

Florida player's stats were solid: FL player averaged 30 min (off the bench), 17.9 points, and 4.1 rebounds/game, and had 38 steals and 13 blocked shots

Ashlyn averaged 20 minutes, 10 points and 7.2 rebounds/gm. She had 36 steals and 70 blocked shots. The blocked shots and rebounding in a lot less minutes should tip the scales in favor of Watkins. Of course, Watkins scoring would have been higher with more minutes, too.

There are not many players in the league I would take over Watkins right now. Of the current players at USC, she would be my first draft pick for the USC team next year.

That jumped out to me as well! Plus, nothing ADR does really stands out, but Tessa's 46.3% 3-point shooting is actually really good nationwide for all players, not just freshmen. How does a conference not recognize that???
