my predictions for the final 1 thru 8 Sunday night

1/ SC
2/ Indiana
3/ UConn (with a BE tourney championship - also sets up a potential final game rematch)
4/ Iowa
5/ Virginia Tech
6/ Stanford
7/ Maryland
8/ Utah

LSU feels like overall 10 to me . also if Crème’s bracket prediction for the Gamecocks is close to correct, go ahead & book your flight to Dallas today.

let’s see how close I am ✌️
Why not VT as a 1 seed?

@winloseortie What happened to Ashley Owusu? I thought she transferred to VA Tech, but I haven't seen her the few times I have watched the Hokies.

Owusu is having some issues with her Coach. After she got hurt he replaced her. VT still managed to win and he's been playing with her minutes ever since . Owusu has made comments online saying she just wants to play but for some reason they're won't let her besides a few garbage minutes. She also said she won't enter the transfer portal again, so she'll probably try her luck with the WNBA draft or go overseas.

Thanks! Totally missed her playing because it has so little PT

For the longest time I thought the same as well. I feel sorry for her, it's been alleged that her health was neglected at her old school which is why she transferred . She nearly died and went to VT and then this happens. I don't blame her for not having trust in any coaches now.

2022 SEC Tourney - SC averaged scoring 65ppg & allowed 56ppg on D

2023 SEC Tourney - SC averaged 82ppg on O & 58ppg on D

only two more points allowed per game on D but 17 more ppg average for O.

Remember the narrative about SC’s offensive funk heading into the tournament last year? It’s nice to not have to listen to it this year.

Wow! The way that Freese churns through players and transfers at Maryland…… well, she must make a hell of a recruiting pitch……and it doesn’t seem to match the reality of playing for her

It's crazy she's a great coach and she recruits well but she can't retain players to save her life. Even this season I thought would be a down year with their max exodus of players and no healthy post players but they are still a top 10 team.

Her transfers alone in recent years could be a top team. Shakira Austin, Angel Reese, Ashley Owusu, Taylor Mikesell, Jenna Stati.

Because of your post I looked over at UMD site. I totally missed it, Angel Reese played 2 seasons at UMD yet is listed as a Sophomore on LSU Site. She did not redshirt.
Questions???
Are this year’s juniors eligible for a Covid year?
Was her exclusion from Wooden award about academic progress?

The more you scratch the surface, the hinkier Reese, Owusu, Freese, Mulkey, UMD& LSU Appear. Don’t know what to make of Brooks and Va Tech..

Great points!
The 2019-20 team, to use a DS term, didn’t play quite play the “hellified” D of the past 2 seasons. However on O they punished you on the break. You couldn’t double or play a packed in zone.
With the rise of Cooke, Beal, Cardoso and the always solid, sometimes spectacular play of Raven and Kierra this team reminds me more and more of 19-20 team. It’s got everything. A good team is going to have to have their best game of the year on both ends of the court simply to stay close

She was hurt most of her freshman year so maybe it is considered a redshirt. From everything I have read she plans to go pro after next year.

She played the first 5 of her Fr season and then the last ten, so I think that rules out redshirt.

Yes Juniors like Kamilla are the last group that are eligible players eligible for a Covid year. I do find Angel's class status interesting but no way of knowing if that's why she is ineligible for NPOY honors.

Nice story and good analysis and compliments on Staley's performance as a coach.

What's as impressive as anything in Staley's work is how she's been able to get buy-in from all players on what their specific role is and why it's important. That's never been an easy part of coaching, and it's harder than ever now because transferring has never been easier. Under Staley's leadership, the Gamecocks have been unified, driven and focused -- and nobody is complaining about playing time or how they are used. Staley's players respect what she's telling them about how to get to another national championship. -- Voepel

It is really amazing. But she can tell them: The #1 recruit in the country came off the bench her entire Freshman season. Now she has a statue outside...

Credit for the improvement mostly goes to Zia, Brea and Cardoso for being better on the offensive end than last year. If those 3 plus Boston play 35 minutes in a game, I don't think we can be beat. Doesn't matter who plays PG; both are good enough and understand their roles.

Of course, Cardoso doesn't play close to those minutes, and I'm not blaming Dawn for that. Kamilla is foul prone. She needs to work on that aspect of her game. So the rest of the field has a hope.

So we are all just waiting…… news you may have missed

Memphis, who I proclaimed to be a nothing burger, Schedule filler(79-54) finished 20-9, and won their conference tournament to put on dancing shoes. This brings to 15 the games we have played against tournament qualifiers. The total will rise to 17 if somehow Ark gets in.

News you may missed and/or not really cared about part Deux

I screamed WHY did we schedule Liberty? I mean really, can you say 88-39?

Turns out they are 24-7 and in their conference championship game vs FGCU 31-3(with losses to Duke, Stanford and…. Liberty by 10)

Liberty has won 16 in a row, second longest active winning streak in WBB. The last time Liberty lost was to UNF when OMG Wait for it………… Elysa Wesolek went off for 20 pts, hitting 5 3pointers to personally kick their A$$

Got a chance this morning to watch the SEC Inside episode on the Women's SEC Tournament. I love all the behind the scenes stuff even for other teams. They only showed the semis and the final but I thought it was interesting that obviously LSU denied access to their players and coaches. All other teams in the final 4 were shown. I'm sure it was Kim's decision but I wonder if it was before or after the games were played????

Dawn rarely misses a chance to say nice things about just about everyone. Walker is the same year as Raven, so I wonder how hard Dawn pushed for her.

As for Eniya, should I laugh or cry? She couldn’t find PT on this year’s very bad team. Elzy is going to bring in 5,6, maybe 7 through the portal. Eniya can’t transfer until after next season. It’s baffling how some very talented players can or can’t make the transition from HS to college.

I'm not sure Elzy will survive. Something very wrong going on with that program. Maybe she wasn't forcefull enough in the beginning to establish her culture. If you don't do that early, almost impossible to do it later.

I don’t think Elzy survives unless she scores huge in the portal.

But in fairness she got thrown into the fire. Matthew Mitchell resigned two weeks before the start of the season because of a horrible concussion that required 2 brain surgeries.

She got the interim job but the 2 other assistants Lin Dunn and Niya Butts had been head coaches, Dunn is a hall of fame legend. It was the Covid year, no fans, shortened season.

The roster was odd, talented but no true post. Rhynne Howard was the lead, her talent and needing the ball in her hands sucked a lot of oxygen out of the room.

In retrospect she seems to have always been running one step ahead of the posse. She is good with X&Os but has failed to retain or sign talent.
