Dawn is playing some strange lineups. Raven and Fletcher playing at the same time. Saxton playing so much. No Cardoso. I don't get it....

I think she wanted to go with ball handling when Zia came out. It didn't really work, though. Fletcher looked clueless at the 2. She didn't know what to do but dribble around the court.

The rest paid off for Zia, however. She was on fire to end the half.

Saxton played 16 minutes in the half. That's more than her total in most games this season. I guess Dawn is going to ride or die with VS.

Shakey start with the turnovers, but both teams ended with 13. Credit to Raven for some pesky defense.

Of course, we won the rebounding battle by 22. Zia with 8 and Brea with 7. Those two are tough as nails.

word of advice: stay off social media (twitter) and other message boards and stick to Gamecock centered sites tonight. lots of complaining about the foul disparity between the teams -some by ‘pundits‘ as well.

Did we already answer this trivia question?

Who are the two teams to score above their season average?

The more I think about how Aliyah Boston plays the more I connect her to Bill Russell. Russ could score very efficiently but the point was for the team to win not for him to score. Need points he would get them. Great defender, shot blocker, rebounder and smartest player on the court

Check out Brea's statline.

We were -12 in the 8 minutes she didn't play. Great time for her to be playing the best ball of her career.
Beal’s play and development exemplifies everything that is right about this program. Work hard! Know what gets you on the court and do it. Develop all the other components of your game. Sacrifice individual stats/glory for team.

Side note on Beal. She was offered by Iowa in 7th grade. I believe(but could be mistaken) it was her first offer.

Did anyone watch any of Iowa’s losses this season? Did anything stand out about what the other team was doing?

Bet there is competitive debate in the locker room regarding who gets the Clark defensive assignment!
They all want the challenge!

Malaysia Fulwiley
Under Rated👏👏
To be fair to the raters, she would constantly attempt these kind of shots in school ball rather than drive to the basket. Not like anyone in 2A SCHSL could stay in front of her. I feel for anyone tasked with ranking her against players from all over the country.

That being said, I can't wait to see her in a Gamecock uniform!

No surprise. Playing Boston and Cardoso is not the best defensive lineup against a team playing 5 legit shooters.

However, on the offensive end, Boston and Cardoso together are difficult to stop, ESPECIALLY for a team playing 5 shooters.

It's rare for Dawn to sacrifice defense for offense, but she knew the Terps needed stops, since they were trailing by double digits. She was more than willing to trade baskets with them.

Frese had no option to go big. Yes, Dawn had more chess pieces (which she recruited, btw), but she used them wisely. I especially credit her for sacrificing defense. She was willing to adapt.

Also, credit to Zia and Breezy for hitting some big shots. Granted they were wide open due the attention that Boston and Cardoso were drawing. Sometimes, though, those are the toughest ones, especially in a pressure situation.

Breezy also had to defend Diamond Miller one-on-one (we don't double). I bet Miller never sees that in the Big Ten. Hall did just well enough against Miller to allow us to maintain the lead. That's all we could ask from her against the likely 2nd pick in the WNBA draft.

Not losses. But I would suggest watching the Georgia game. It's recent and UGA is a poor man's version of us. The game was played in Des Moines and wasn't decided until late.

My biggest takeaway was Iowa's 5 starters played at least 37 minutes. In the 2nd, they collapsed when the bench came in, even with Clark out there (she played all 40).

I expected a lot of flopping from them. Ok, great. But call it tight both ways. We would win a war of attrition. They can't afford foul trouble against us.

Good insight. The only caveats I would add is that their best player off the bench,Stuelke, was injured and did not play. They still have little depth.
Their conditioning reminds me of the UCONN teams with Stewart. They look like track athletes who can run all day, except of course Czinano who has the shot putter build

Steulke is a freshman though and also a 6'1 post I believe. We just have to play our game.

This final four matchup is looking to be highly anticipated. I think if we play "our" game we should win. This could be another game where the hype exceeds the actual game.

We have both a top 10 offense and top 10 defense in the country and we have one of the best 3 point defenses in the country as well. We've given up a max (10) 3 pointers once this season in a semi competitive game with Arkansas in which are staters played only half the game. Outside of that we've given up 7 3s at the most.

Iowa is the the top offensive team in the country and plays at a fast pace. They average 87 pts a game to our 80 but they also give up almost 71 points to our 51 points. They shoot at a high percentage but are very poor offensive rebounders, so i would expect a lot of one and done possessions for them.

They're about 7 players deep but they heavily rely on the staters. Similar to Maryland they have really good perimeter shooters, in some ways Iowa is like a less athletic version of Maryland, with Clark as the key piece instead of Miller .

The second key player on their team is the highly skilled but unathletic Czinano. She's solid and is effective without dribbling, I believe she has only dribbled once for the entire tournament and she's going to have to do a lot more than that to to battle with our posts.

The key to winning the game is to play our game and limit the others from scoring. Our bigs should be able to lock down Czinano and the other 3 players are threats from range. Nobody outside of Clark is capable of beating us off the dribble. So I wouldn't bring any extra help on Clark because that's how they get open looks in their offense. Force Clark into tough shots for 40 minutes and make the rest of the team try to create and we win this game convincingly.

Also expect flop city from Iowa, especially from Caitlin. The refs have largely not reward our opponents for it in the tournament so let's cross our fingers and hope it continues.
