My guess at the matchups for Friday night

Boston➡️Czanano 6’3”
Saxton➡️Warnock 6’1
Cooke➡️ Marshall 5’9”
Beal➡️ Clark 6’1”
Fletcher➡️ Martin 6’0”
It wouldn't surprise me if Beal doesn't end up on Clark. Dawn shocked us when she put Henderson on Paige last year and everyone is expecting Beal but you never know what Dawn has up her sleeve.

I'm sure she'll rotate players on her to tire her out. Imagine getting defended by Beal then Amihere, then Cooke and then Johnson and then back to Beal again.

Steulke is a freshman though and also a 6'1 post I believe. We just have to play our game.
She played 20 minutes against Louisville. She'll probably play similar if not more minutes against us. That will take minutes away from their stretch 4. I think they will have to sacrifice some shooting to compete in the paint.

I tried to find a game where Iowa had to defend a team with a strong low post presence. The only game that stood out was UCONN. Edwards finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Juhasz didn't play. Iowa's big girl was very quiet. Single digits in points and rebounds. UCONN was +16 on the boards.

I thought Nika Muhl did the best defensive job I've seen on Clark. No switching. Muhl stuck to her like glue. Denied her the ball when possible. Brea and Hall will probably get the assignment imo.

Fudd scored 2 in the 1st half and 22 in the 2nd. She adjusted by focusing more on the midrange. I'm sure our coaches will scout the UCONN game. Hopefully Zia can have success there as well.

The game was close with UCONN pulling away in the 4th. It was played a while back, though. Iowa looks better now and UCONN looks worst. The full game is on Youtube, for those interested.

Game was Nov 27th. Looking at the stats, UCONN only went to the line 6 times and only made 2 for 33.3%. They held Clark to 25 pts.

Our rebounding helped off set their shooting stats.
Right. You can't be -22 on the boards and outshoot your opponent to win. Impossible. They were -23 in the first matchup. Sorry, I respect Maryland, but the officials didn't cost them the game. Too short.

Now, had they kept Angel Reese, who knows? Scary thought.

Was it mentioned on here that Tessa Johnson won the 3 point shooting contest at the McDonald's All-American game? I felt bad for her in the game. If you're not a primary ball handler in these all-star games, forgetaboutit. You're never be going to get enough passes to show off your skills.

Fulwiley had 7 more shot attempts than any of her teammates. She doesn't lack for confidence.lol. But she was only 3 of 10 from the 3 point line. She's the human highlight reel, for sure, but her shot selection is questionable at times. Dawn's going have to reign her in a bit.

Unfortunately I didnt get to watch any of the game as I had a dinner function that I had to attend the entire time. However, my oldest daughter said that Maryland was the beneficiary of many questionable calls in the first quarter that helped them get the lead. After that she says things settled down and Carolina really dominated the rest of the way.
Is that about right? Did Maryland actually get calls early and then it went even? If so, you get the calls early and then they go even, it can feel like suddenly the other team is then getting calls rather than being fair.

I recall there was a foul called on Boston in the 1st and replay showed she clearly got 'all ball.'

I think it was clear Frese's game plan was to not sit passively in a zone. She surprised everyone by being more aggressive on defense. Their trapping was particularly affective in the 1st.

They wanted a physical game and we gave them one after the 1st. I guess we would have to look at individual call to determine if it was fair. However, in general, the foul discrepancy was about what should be expected when Boston and Cardoso have a 3 to 5 inch height advantage on Maryland's tallest player.

What do y’all think about this one …

Dawn has already said she would hit the portal this year for a few players. Not alot of big names yet but one I would love to get is Lexi Donarske (sp?) from Iowa St. Avg over 10 pts a game and was Big 12 defensive player of the year. Also shot the three ball well. I think that would fit what Dawn is looking for. Another post possibly would be good if any decent ones come out.

If we don’t turn the ball over and rebound I think we will be fine. That is the problem with Amihere she has become a turnover machine. Beal is better on offense and handles the ball better. Give me Beal and Hall.

Yes, I think we'll see Beal and Hall on Clark a lot. Interesting decision for Dawn on the rest of lineup. Iowa's 3 shooters just stand outside the 3 point line to space the floor. They aren't capable of creating their own shot, certainly not against our players. And their big girl literally doesn't dribble. Everything they do offensively hinges on Clark's ability to break down the opposing defense and score or pass to an open teammate. We don't double, so it will become a one-on-one matchup between Clark and her defender. How many points is she going to have score?

She scored 45 against NC State and Iowa still lost. I could see a similar outcome tomorrow night. We're not asking Beal and Breezy to shut Clark down. We just need them to make her work for her points. If we're not doubling, then she's going to have to score a lot. Clark is amazing, no doubt, but at some point it will have to be exhausting to carry the team's offense on her back.

Pingeton is sitting on the hottest seat in the SEC. She needs to win big next season. This departure doesn't help.

Is Haley Troup returning for a 10th season? 🙃

Bringing in an experienced guard can't hurt, but if LA leaves, we will need some inside depth. We'll only have Feagin, Watkins and Cardoso. We will need at least 2 bigs. LA has her moments, both good and bad, but really wish she returns for her covid year.

Be nice, it would only be her 7th season.🙃
148 games played, 85 starts and still only 898 points scored. I guess she found a home.

She did get a trip to Japan out of summer school here, when she surmised she was out of her depth.

I am curious what degree/s she got at Mizzou. Six years plus summer schools??

I ask this because Aarion Bradshaw after she went to Dayton got an undergraduate degree in engineering, 2 masters degrees in engineering, started PhD work and founded a thriving non profit. She also holds some major assists record at Dayton and was 3X all D in the A10 including DPOY.
SIX years paid college, you can go far. If Aarion and LA ever form a company they will rule the world.

That's impressive. Good for her.

Another one who's had a long strange trip is Bianca Jackson. She was here for 2 years. Started as a freshman. Transfers to FSU and then we proceed to go on the greatest run in our history. She transfers again and FSU replaces her with the national freshman of the year. She ends her career on a terrible Georgia Tech team.

So who do we want to win in the LSU vs VT matchup? I am leaning VT because I have already seen way to much of LSU's classless style on and off the court. On the other hand, we would easily handle LSU in the final once again. I don't know enough of VT to offer an opinion but they seem like they are very business like in their approach and are playing their best ball of the year right now. LSU or VT???

Wish our game was first. I can't root for LSU without knowing we're in the championship game for sure.

I was going to bring this up but all the "DS can do no wrong because she wins" folks would have jumped all over me. I'll let you be that guy today.
Wtf is with that garb?

Now if we could make a shot it wouldn't even be close.
Here’s another outfit Cybercock might enjoy…since he wants Dawn to only wear USC clothes.

I read that the ticket prices for the secondary market for the ladies final four was a lot higher than the mens. Why are there so many empty seats at the ladies game tonight?

Dawn will make adjustments at half. I think (hope) what we saw from Clarke is the best she can play. Can't imagine her playing with that much intensity for a full game. And if she does it doesn't matter because we will still be in the game. LA was a factor along with Cardoso off the bench. They have NO bench! We will win....

Never saw Clark play before this game. Hafltime, down by one. Counting on our height and depth to wear and foul them out. Clark can flat out play.
