good point on the making the adjustments on O. we were down 31-21 late in the second quarter and from that point on in the game, we outscored UCLA by 19. It took a couple of quarters, but we made the adjustments and grinded it out.

I also think what played a part was it was early in the season, we're no. 1 playing at home, and may have been a little overconfident/relaxed to start. we were coming off that emotional win at Stanford and played two cupcakes the week prior. UCLA came in here that night and played us with no fear or intimidation and put us on our heels.

I believe we'll see a better focus and intensity from the start this time around knowing what's at stake.
If we don't have the focus and intensity, we lose.

Rewatching the first matchup with UCLA, what stood out to me was Raven's 4 minutes in the 1st quarter. She wasn't good and we bled points. She never got back on the court. That might have been rock bottom for her. She's playing MUCH better now. Fletcher was OK, but Dawn went with Zia and LA at the point in crunch time. She really hasn't gone back to them much since then. So, yeah, our improved point guard play gives me reason for optimism.

Also, UCLA has some "big bodies," but not a lot of shot blocking height. The lob pass to Cardoso was very effective against them. I believe Kamilla was SEC POY coming off that performance.

I believe we're 1-14 from 3 in that game. Unlikely we shoot that poorly again.

Sorry, I was just on hold on the phone with Blockbuster Video and I missed that. Can you repeat it?

You'll get a better quality picture from an over-the-air HD broadcast than anything cable/satellite/streaming can deliver.

Try it out. Find a game that's on both ESPN and ABC. Look at the TV screen on ABC, and then ESPN. Assuming you have a decent antenna or are relatively close to the transmitting tower, you'll get a better-quality picture via the ABC affiliate over-the air.

Because the cause is always about skin color with her.

It's obvious this country is being divided up by every characteristic imaginable with a special month for everybody.

Until we get past that, it will never get better. Of course it's easier to conquer the divided so this just plays into the hands of our government who wants us to hate each other.

Society, like DS, is too ignorant to see that.
I was going to bring this up but all the "DS can do no wrong because she wins" folks would have jumped all over me. I'll let you be that guy today.
Wtf is with that garb?

Now if we could make a shot it wouldn't even be close.
Cybercock…how do you like this outfit? Her fans are not complaining that she is not wearing LSU garb!

These shoes work better with that outfit.

What's going on with Vic Schaefer at Texas? His team looked kind of rough. Both in how they played and how they looked. More tatts than a prison gang. I thought he would make a Final Four by the end of 3rd season. Not close.

Careful on the tatts, most every team has players with plenty, us included. Morris was bush league with Van Lith after the game. Van Lith played it down. Smart on her part, she won the game, why lower yourself.

Texas was preseason pick for final four, had some injuries and just really never lived up to their billing. They had 7 transfer out after last season including Ebo, Matharu and Warren. They had 6 transfers come into the program. Plus 5 incoming Fr. Blue blood program should not have that kind of turnover. Not a stable place.

Friend of mine who worked in college athletics for 35 years(including Miss St) said Vic and Mulkey are 2 of the worst human beings involved in WBB. I think it’s just life catching up with Vic. I thought they might be a real threat coming into the league

Yeah, I barely notice tatts anymore; they are so ubiquitous in basketball. That's what makes Texas such an outlier.

The rumor on the Aggie board is Vic is bringing in players with bad attitudes that are driving out some of the better players that were aleady there. Take it for what it's worth coming from a rival board. But we did have that issue when Te'a Cooper was here. That's the risk with going heavy on transfers. Glad Dawn has the luxury of being more selective in the portal. Culture, which has played a huge part in our success of the last 4 seasons, is a real thing.

Doesn't surprise me. I never did buy into Vic's good ol' boy persona.

Only a freshman and getting recognized by her state. A potential legacy recruit, Bree Hall younger sister. Also be on the look out for Chole Kitts younger sister as well she should be a sophomore this year and is ranked #25 in her class according to prospect nation .

I think "kinda rough" is kinda understated. They were awful.

Rewatched the PAC-12 championship game between UCLA and Wash St. The Bruins lost.

But they were an impressive offensive rebounding team. The 17 they grabbed against us is the most of that any team had against us this seadon. Saxton has to do better on the defensive glad. I don't think most fans realize she is a mediocre defensive rebounder.

It's not lack of effort because she is a very good offensive rebounder. Probably her thin frame is the issue.

Regardless, we need to limit those extra possessions in the rematch. We certainly have numerous players on the bench capable of rebounding well.

Where do Boston and Cardoso rank on D rebounding? My guess is very well. Saxton is expected to defend on the perimeter probably lowering her rebounding rate.

I hope we see Cardoso often and early. If I remember correctly we played high-low game with Boston high post and even used a double low post scheme to get Cardoso the ball.

We have had 10 transfers into the program in the last 10 years. Only one has been a cultural failure. Dawn, to this day refuses to utter her name publicly. Her own personal Voldemort 🤣

Of the 5 freshmen Vic brought in, 2 were walkons, 2were bigs who contributed 10-12 minutes a game as depth and the fifth reclassified to come in early and did not play all season.

He only brings in 1 recruit with 23 class, so I expect a good deal of portaling in and out this offseason

Both Boston and Cardoso are tremendous rebounders. Cardoso actually rebounds at a higher rate than Boston. Hopefully, next season, she can stay out of foul trouble because she could potentially put up huge rb numbers. What's really impressive is they often play together and compete against each other for defensive rebounds and their individual numbers are still impressive.

tbh, we could play any of our bigs off the bench and they would rebound better than Victaria.

I liked the way Hall played off the bench against USF. The more good minutes she can give us at the wing allows the possibility for LA to play the 4 in Saxton's place. We gain more rebounding and lose no defense in that scenario.

Her hoops stats? I think I’ll have to drop Netflix next basketball season to accommodate

It's good seeing Ty Harris with the team heading to Greenville.
Church ran late last Sunday and was listening to radio broadcast on my way home. To my surprise Ty was doing color commentary with Brad Muller.

Brad is wonderful but he has had this gig solo for at least a decade. Ty was tentative about speaking up and Brad was trying to remember to make space for her. It was a little awkward, but it made me happy.

The athletic department is finally paying some respect to WBB radio broadcast. This season Pregame has gone from a 15 minute mad rush with commercials to 30 minutes. They have brought in a second voice for NCAA Tournament.

Might have to do with interested advertisers too.
I expect that they'll get the kinks worked out.

You hate to see athletes trying to swallow the chicken bone
And that young woman was shooting 75% from the line. I've been having a running battle on another board about the importance of free throw shooting. Some people, because shooting free throws on common fouls went away some time ago, tend to minimize the importance of free throws. I'm sure that's not how they are viewed in Ute nation right now.

Someone please tell Raven Johnson to stop shooting the ball. I thought she was some phenom?
Missed shots from the perimeter are better than turnovers with the way we offensive rebound.

But Cardoso and Saxton need to do a better job of making bunnies.

Gotta hit some three's to bring the defense out.
Officials need to get their act together - not consistent!
