Game 1 tonight, Sunrise, FL, 8 p.m. EDT, ABC and espn+

We don’t get much hawkey talk here. Does anyone give a sh|t?

I would like to see Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl win the Cup for the Oilers, but I think the Panthers will win it all. The Panthers are a very solid team.

As long as Washington, Boston, and the NYR are out, I don’t care who wins.

Florida looks pretty rtough to beat and Edmonton looks very beatable. And I’m still at Edmonton stopping the Islanders drive for 5 back in ‘84.

I’d prefer Florida wins to keep Edmonton at the same 5 Cups total as the Pens (even though the Oilers have the advantage being a younger franchise).

Hockey, played in June, especially in Florida, is not in harmony with the laws of nature. It is an abomination. I will not watch. That said, the Panthers in 7.

Panthers lead after one period, 1-0. Edmonton played better overall, but one defensive breakdown led to the Florida goal.

I don't know much about NHL but I do know that the Oilers mascot was the former WBS Pens mascot so GO OILERS!

Panthers lead after two periods, 2-0. Edmonton has had a ton of chances, but Sergei Bobrovsky has been outstanding.

God-Awful announcers about 6 times during the game: "Edmonton is just dominating Florida..."

Yeah. OK.

Yeah. OK.

Well, Edmonton controlled play most of the night and dominated shots on goal. Florida’s first two goals came out of nowhere — quick attacks, not sustained pressure. The third goal was an empty-netter. So, I agree with the announcers that the flow of the game was largely controlled by Edmonton. Bobrosky was the difference.

For some reason, many people insist on focusing on the score. 🤔

SOG didn't mean much to the same announcers when the Panthers were peppering the Rangers. And the Bruins.

Focusing on the score... like that is what matters. 😒

Florida is the better team so far tonight. About halfway through the 1st period, and Edmonton has no shots on goal. That includes an Oilers’ power play.

Edmonton also just committed a five-minute major penalty (kneeing) with a game misconduct. Foegele ejected for Edmonton. So, Florida is about to start a five-minute power play.

Still 0-0, 10:39 to go in the 1st period.

So much for Florida looking better. About 90 seconds into their power play, they commit a tripping penalty. Two-minute minor. 4-on-4. Ekholm scores for Edmonton. 1-0, Oilers.

Still 4-on-4.

End 1st period: Oilers 1, Panthers 0

Edmonton commits a late penalty (two-minute minor). 1:14 left in the Florida power play to start the 2nd period.

Full disclosure, I am a life long hockey fan (raised in Boston in 70s). I played goaltender for 30+ years. I have many friends that played in NHL including Mike Sullivan. In all my years of watching playoff hockey I don't think I have ever seen a team that forechecks, and stick checks, better than Florida. They are absolute beasts in their O zone (watch how difficult EDM has getting the puck out of their end), and have amazingly active sticks in their end. They win this thing in 5. Just a great team top to bottom.

One of the best organizations in professional sports right now. Everything has built up to this, and everything is clicking. People make fun of warm weather hockey. It certainly doesn't make players "soft". At least not in Broward.

Maybe banging range balls on your day off is better for you than shoveling snow.

I totally agree on the strength of total organization, top tom bottom. They are now where Pens were back in 2016-2017.

They were a little ahead of themselves last year, but their blue liners have really excelled this year. I just love watching them play (except against Boston)

The FIRST brilliant thing they did was years ago when they got the hell out of Miami and moved north.

The Marlins had the same option - they could have had the old Jai Alai Fronton parcel in WPB for a song - but they chose poorly.

What's going to happen tonight? I can maybe go to a game 7 in Sunrise. Don't think I'll get the opportunity to though.

Let's go Cats. #timetohunt
