“Before Oregon, I was kind of set on Penn State,” Finney told On3. “During the visit, through meetings with Coach Tosh (Lupoi) and Coach (Chris) Hampton and Coach (Cody) Wadood, seeing how they would use me, how they don’t have too many people at corner and then with Coach (Kyle) Bolton, meeting him kinda influenced the decision.”

Sounds like his decision was influenced by what he feels is an easier path to playing time at Oregon.
Sounds like he made an informed decision. Can' fault him.

Like I said in another thread, if you're a WR and you're confident that you want to go to Penn State, you better make your intentions known to this staff ASAP because I think the WR dominoes are about to start falling with the Huhn commitment. If you're a WR in the 2025 class, Penn State has to be pretty appealing in regards to the quality of QB you'll be playing with and the availability of early PT.

If you snooze, you lose.....ahem Lex Cyrus.
Wasn't that also said when Allar verballed. Still waiting on the "eite" receivers his verbal/signing/potential were supposed to attract.

things look pretty good here, though nothing is certain in recruiting.

I have an event to attend this evening, and will be away from the board. So, I won't be in a position to watch for CJF's Bat Signal, and post about it.

Ryan, I like the Exinor commitment. 2 questions, do you anticipate him getting a little leaner once he's in the program? I think 200-205 at his height would do a lot to help him be even more explosive. Second, do we have an anticipated time frame for Cyrus's commitment? We need a pure burner like Cyrus in this class.

I was looking at some recruiting info for some of PSU’s remaining targets and found this quote from FL DL target Jarquez Carter interesting when asked about his visit.

“Something that stands out to me about Penn State is the way that they practice. I’ve never seen anyone practice as hard as they do,” said Carter. “They practice so physical. They started with O-line vs. D-line one-on-one. They get after it like no other team does.”

Take what you want from it, but I found it to be a positive. We could use some more DL players in this cycle and it seems like Carter has a lot of interest in PSU. He went on to say that he enjoyed sitting down with Allen and Barnes and breaking down film.

Hard to read this one. He took an OV to PSU, but doesn't talk with recruiting analysts, so nobody has a good feel for where he's headed.

Another tough one to read. PSU looked to have the lead, but UGA seems to be gaining steam.

looks like he's giving the bidders a chance to see what they can find between the sofa cushions.

PSU hosted him for an OV. But there were no indications that PSU was in the running at the end.

This guy seemed to really want PSU. He took an OV in early June. He also camped 2X at PSU in June. Alas, there were concerns about him (there were some videos posted from his camp one-on-ones by the BWI guys), and PSU appears to have opted against taking him.

PSU really wanted this safety, and worked hard to land him. Alas, Notre Dame was considered the leader, and that's where he committed.

Does everyone else feel pretty good about the Cyrus announcement? I think the timing is in our favor. I think he understands our WR spots are limited and if he doesn't commit soon he might lose his spot.

I'll feel really good about the 2025 WR Class if we can get Williams and Cyrus this week.

Not a surprise, but still frustrating. PSU identified him very early, and for the longest time appeared to be the clear leader. Then he kind of blew up, in terms of all the big programs learned of him after PSU.

He's been trending away from PSU for some time, and his mom (per an interview the dad gave) was all-in on Mich., and really wanted him to go there.

Only time will tell if his decision was foolish or smart. Either way, I doubt our TE Room will suffer too much.

I'm not sure how ON3 calculates this but I looked at average NIL value of 2025 recruits:

OSU $197k
Georgia $168k
Alabama $167k

Michigan $102k
Oregon $92k

Penn State $63k

The last time I saw a list of NIL collective money by school was in November. Back then it said OSU had $20 million, Michigan had $16 million, and PSU had $14 million. Have we fallen further behind in the last 7 months? Are we giving more to sports other than football?

Agree. The TE room is pretty deep with the newest top recruit in last year’s recruiting class, Luke Reynolds, the top rated TE recruit in the country. Warren, Dinkins, Rappleyea, and Reynolds already on the roster.

We could be done with this class by this weekend! Then the coaches can defend it and focus on 2026.
Coaches recruit who they recruit. They just have to win with them. And this class probably has some ways to go. Let the processing begin.

if that is correct, an avg Penn State deal would not be enough to fund a player who did not have a scholarship. it would seem you would need around $100k pre-tax income to have enough net to cover tuition, room and board along with some spending money.

I've never bought into the pay in lieu of scholarship theory. Good players are going to demand both. Why would anybody voluntarily give up their scholarship?

I can see the preferred walk-on types accepting $50k/yr of NIL to come to a major football program rather than get a scholarship from a small school. I just don't see it happening with top talent.
