He is our hairdresser’s nephew, good guy. Also try Bosak’s smoked in Olyphant. IMO, best in NEPA. Carm used to make sure we had our whole rib eye sliced nice for our steak sandwich extravaganzas for the White Outs. They still do a great job now for us.
Man it's a small world.

Give Mary Lou’s a try. It’s more takeout and not on Main Street, but it’s quite good. Mary Lou was a pizza make at Gabello’s in Duryea for years.
Tried Mary Lou’s today and it was ok and similar to what I have experienced with other Old Forge places. Dough was too thick and there was not a lot of flavor in the sauce or the dough. Something was missing.

Anyone ever try Panzone's on Long Beach Island at the Jersey Shore? Really good...

Sir, great choices. New Haven pizza for me is “all that”, espec F Pepe’s and “Bar” across from Louis’ Lunch (the 1st hamburger made in the US (delish)).
I have a NYC apt (and a non-NYC home) and your NY choices are quite good, tho’ maybe not my exact winners
Pepe's clam pizza is pretty awesome, but Modern has the best New Haven pizza in my opinion.

The best pizza I ever had was when I studied abroad for a summer and took a long weekend to Rome. We stumbled into some pizza place late at night because we couldn't sleep and it was amazing.

On a side note, it's not the best pizza I've ever had, but Bob's Pizza in Indiana, PA is some of my favorite pizza. My father's family is from Indiana and almost all of his siblings have worked there at some point, so the nostalgia for the pizza just hits home for me.

I love their pepperoni. If you are in Ridgewood, A Mano is also very good.
Bro, rolled in there after I ordered, super excited, “I’m Rick”, girl says it’s coming out right now, it’s BEAUTIFUL, break out the credit card, she says cash only. I leave humiliated and starving.

DelGrosso's Amusement Park (in Tipton, PA, just south of State College in the Tyrone area) has amazing pizza. Of course they use the best DelGrosso sauce and freshest ingredients. We travel to the park even during the winter months just for the pizza, which they still sell when the park is closed.
Is the Texas hot dog place still there (Austins?)

You poor son of a *****. If I had to guess who this story happened to, you wouldn’t be on the list. (I should be.)

No. When the DelGrosso's expanded their water park, to include a lazy river, wave pool, and other attractions, they unfortunately eliminated the Texas hot dogs building as they needed the additional space. They did however add quite a few concessions buildings in the water park itself, including an authentic Philly Cheese Steak shop. The family went to philly and sampled many different cheese steaks, took samples back to Penn State's food science department, and "reverse engineered" the sandwich so that they are making pretty exact replicas of the authentic thing.

There are two Texas Hot Dogs locations still in Altoona, but unfortunately none at the park anymore.

Fortunato’s - the pizza my grandfather used to make. Still the best pizza I have had til this day. He was going to open a pizza restaurant in Youngstown, Ohio in the 1940’s but was talked out of it because pizza was not a thing back then. I believe he would have been quite successful though. My second favorite is Brier Hill pizza from Youngstown and in third is Pitz from Senape’s or Longo’s in Hazleton.
Big_O As a child we ate Tony's on Stambaugh Ave in Sharon. Eventually switched to Luigi's in Hermitage. Ever try either?

So he’s (AT) been my best friend for quite a while. We prob know each other ….
I don't really know him personally. I was at a couple of his comedy shows that were fundraisers for travel baseball that my friend's kid was involved with. Other than that I frequent his beer store often. He's got the best prices around and is always stocked up in what I need. He said Merry Christmas as I was leaving on Wednesday and I said oh don't worry you'll see me again before Christmas. 🤣

Yeah, that’s a really annoying policy they have. They usually tell you before you order.

Au contraire…they have the business (and never any coupons) to validate it…
To each their own. We have a house in BP and have tried many pizzas from all over the area. Pittsburgh unfortunately is not a pizza town and much of it like Luciano’s is a greasy mess. Probably the best I have found in the area is the wood fired pies at Cucina Bella. About the only thing Luciano’s has going for it is they sell slices which is also difficult to find in western Pa.

As Fair stated, your favorite pizza is a bit emotional. I grew up in NEPA, so my favorite is Old Forge pizza. Plus, it's damned good. Without question, I'll be downing a cut or two during our visit to NEPA for Christmas.
hi way

There was a thread a long time ago (well a year or so back) about experience with OONI pizza ovens. Maybe because you make it, but when it turns out well, I think the pizza is as good as the best pizza you have had. The ingredients are as fresh as can be possibly be and the oven cooks at such a high temp that you get crispy pizza. When you make your own dough, own homemade sauce from tomatoes in the garden, and the best toppings you can buy, the result is magic. I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve gotten from people who are so surprised at the quality. I seldom get pizza out anymore. Get an OONI and have some fun.
I use my charcoal grill as a pizza oven. It's a pretty big grill, so I build the fire on one side, char and cook the dough. Move to the cooler side to finish.

I use Bobby Flays grilled pizza dough recipe. I'm guessing the flour water ratio is different to make it stiffer. I have tried other recipes and many run or sag through the grates before they get a solid crust. Even at high heat.

Glad you replied to that. I was going to say yes. Not realizing there was one at the park.

And I will say that Delgrossos has some fantastic food. And at fairly reasonable prices.

Speaking of grease, have you ever tried Vincent’s?

I have not if you are talking about The Vincent’s in Greentree? Do you recommend?

i do like Il Pizziola and we sometimes get a pie at Fiores. A couple of friends love Mineos but it’s been a long time since I had a pie from there.

Sorry not sorry but:

HOME | aiellospizza > Mineo's
That’s a bit of a haul from Bethel Park. Is it worth the drive?

I plan on swinging by the place in my neighborhood I dissed earlier in my conversation with @MacNit as he seems like a solid guy and folks in our area have their allegiances which I appreciate. Plus Luciano’s does sell pizza by the slice which is hard to find in our neighborhood.

Do all three of the pizza places in Squirrell Hill and report back.

I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Vincent’s (Original) is in Forest Hills. Il Pizziolas is another good one…very Neapolitan and a very good imitation of what you experience on the Waterfront Naples, Italy. Expensive though.

Have had the others - all good as well.

As for Vincent’s, I do recommend you try…not for everyone…I actually like it better reheated in oven the next day. No way it is healthy…but it is an experience and I find it tasty…about twice a year.
