This thread is a perfect example why we don't deserve nice, pretty things.....when we have them, we find a nitpicky reason to criticize. Dawn Staley will end up regretting turning down the Ohio State job.

I already regret it. We could use that $3 million a year in football.

Several years ago, I got called out because of the way a young college aged coed working at Za's Pizza did not seat her at the table of her choice, The girl got fired because of the bad publicity, and, as a result I was called a racist. Dawn is in fact a racist, not me. Yes, I am happy to talk about it.

Not sure how many times people have to tell some of you. Nobody cares about women's basketball.
Well you spend a significant portion of your posts on WBB for someone who doesn’t care about it. I think you might be happier if you followed your own advice and never paid attention to WBB ever again.

York Cock is either a Tater or an idiot ! Some people consider that one and the same. Go find something else to crow about instead of your disdain for Dawn Staley. I’m 100% behind her.
Doesn't agree with you = Tater.

C'mon, you're better than that. ::aren't you?::

LOL. Money and fame get you that privilege, not race. If you think that's bad don't come to HHI and work in some of the higher end restaurants....you get fired for a lot less than that. There are those who have "standing reservations" and if you give up "their table" on a busy night and they come in....you will immediately get your pink slip. Most higher end restaurants want the servers there 20-30 minutes before their shift....if you are late and don't have it pre-approved, don't bother showing up.

I bet this dude watched us play in the finals this past season. I would agree that not as many people care about women's basketball as men's but there are plenty of people that care and pay attention.

I think I would be happier if we didn't blow millions on a sport that nobody cares about and spent it on football, as sport that almost everyone cares about. All the money we waste on it is the only reason I even care to discuss it.

Hmmm....... Of all the sports and projects that lose money, I find it intriguing that the only one that rankles you is WBB. The sport that we have been the most successful at over the last decade.

I guess this person feels the same way about Baseball, Golf, Tennis, etc.. since Women's basketball makes more than all of those sports. hmm.....

All the sports programs are an investment. Some provide a ROI and some do not. WBB definitely has a high ROI!

Why not just coach and win national titles, no need for coaches to be political activist. When she retires, have at it
Glad you’re not the coach of any our athletic teams! Bud, sometimes you have step up for your players especially the ones that are good ambassadors for the University!! Bottom line, ambassador or not, as long as these young folks are doing things the right way we must stand up for them !! 💯

so many people "tilted" in this thread as usual regarding women's basketball and Dawn. Can't say I'm surprised.

Dawn Staley takes her political activism on and off the court. I’d probably tune into a few WBB games if not for that.
Agree or not, I think Dawn feels a sense of responsibility to use her clout to benefit society. Whether or not any of us agree with the specific agenda point has nothing to do with the sense of responsibility she feels.

Dawn will be yapping about the weather tomorrow. That’s all she does. Look at how she was trying to rally support in twitter when basically it was a nothingburger anyways. Petty.
She also found the time to win 2 National Championships and finish #1 in all of the polls in 2019-2020.

Not sure you would have the same attitude if Shane Beamer had won 2 National Championships and was supporting Spencer Rattler, who was not invited to a national ceremony after getting an award nomination. Dawn is using the national recognition and reputation she has earned to support her team and her players as any coach worth their salt would do. If you don't like Dawn personally just say so. If you don't like WBB then focus on non-WBB threads. Defending Boston is Dawn's job and she does her job very well.

I think all coaches should take up for their players and Dawn was right to question Boston not being included. It's her other political activism that is more concerning and it always turns into a racial issue. In this case Dawn didn't turn it into a racial thing and I wish Boston hadn't as well. All I'm saying is that political activism has no place in college coaching, not when they are representing the university, that's a completely different issue than taking up for your players.

Agree regarding the political activism and took issue with the national anthem situation which I still don't quite understand. I think Boston's point had to do with how Paige Bueckers was treated compared to her treatment this year and she could have verbalized it better. Dawn did not make it a racial issue but did not like how her player was treated with the snub.

You cannot separate politics from collegiate athletics. Any statement a coach makes about NIL has politics involved. The whole economic upheaval in conference alignment is political about power and money. Our own BOT is rife with the intersection of politics and sport. As much as you and I want our games to be “pure” and only about sports, it cannot be and quite frankly never was

Imagine if another coach did the same but supported Trump and the policies of the republican party. Imagine one of our coaches wearing a MAGA hat during a game.

You haven't paid attention to the Oklahoma state coach? Is he still employed? How about Steve Kerr and Pop? Wake up? Some coach don't take hard political stands but step in to support their players. You clowns are making a mountain out of a....

Pretty amusing reading all these triggered posters trapped in their little cages called "life", flailing outward and passing their judgemental opinions regarding another person expressing her own opinions, who doesn't even know they exist. Dawn Staley is an icon for women's basketball and a Hall of Fame member as a player - so she expresses her opinions regarding one of the top professional women basketball player who she feels is being treated unfairly in a foreign country. She is also the head coach for South Carolina Women Basketball's program, so she expresses her opinions regarding one of her own players on the team who was snubbed by ESPN for an award ceremony.

Heaven forbid that she is so outwardly activistic regarding so many things in the world that have NOTHING to do with her - unlike all the triggered posters in THIS thread, LOL. Next thing you know she will post an opinion on public networks regarding her dog Champ - will such offensive transgressions NEVER CEASE!?!?

BS. Btw, I was talking about one of our coaches. Also, the Oklahoma State coach was merely wearing an OANN t-shirt, on his boat, on a Saturday.

Guess she has a right to complain for her player. However, pretty sure 3 athletes were nominated. The Softball player from OU,soccer player from FSU, and Boston. Only the winner , the OU girl, was invited. Also do not believe ESPN televised all the awards given and this was one they did not. Do not think anyone from FSU complained, But again Staley has that right.

Boston was invited after the complaint But refused the invitation which is a little ridiculous to me after Staley complained. But worse, she turned it into somewhat of a racial issue with her statement which was ridiculous. The other girl from FSU that was not invited was white.

My God the world is coming to an end cause our WBB coach supports Griner and stands up for one of her players. Maybe some of you would prefer we go back to the 50s when people of color and women in general had little if any voice. Sorry guys those days are over.

Nothing says bush league coach and ACTIVIST more than going after one of the Wokest companies ever because one of your players did not get invited to an awards ceremony. Each coach in every league from high school up could act this way with one of their star players. Some stay classy and let their players do the talking….OTHERS LIKE STALEY….well they constantly yap like a rabid chihuahua . Embarrassing
You sound like a mental-midget douchebag

My wife and I frequent HHI quite often. In fact, we are vacationing down there again next month and considering the purchase of a vacation home on the island.

Tell us the specific restaurants/businesses that are bullying employees or engaging in biased practices. We certainly don't want to encourage those types of policies by frequenting them. If you don't feel comfortable naming them publicly. DM me.

If anyone plays golf, lives in the area and is interested in playing 18 next month. Let me know. While I normally play on the island or in the Bluffton community. I have traveled as far as PI to play their Legends Course.

So the NPOY in WBB not invited to the ESPY’s is BS at best. I loathe ESPN due to liberal BS politics, then they dis’ the best player in college WBB. A special kind of stupid. I don’t blame Dawn one damn bit, I would have done the same in her spot.
