My wife and I frequent HHI quite often. In fact, we are vacationing down there again next month and considering the purchase of a vacation home on the island.

Tell us the specific restaurants/businesses that are bullying employees or engaging in biased practices. We certainly don't want to encourage those types of policies by frequenting them. If you don't feel comfortable naming them publicly. DM me.

If anyone plays golf, lives in the area and is interested in playing 18 next month. Let me know. While I normally play on the island or in the Bluffton community. I have traveled as far as PI to play their Legends Course.
Interesting you should ask as I just got back from one of them...."The Sage Room." Excellent meal and service. Wait staff can make a lot of money at that restaurant and many of the other better restaurants.

The toughest used to be "The Gaslight", an higher end french restaurant just outside of Sea Pines. The owner hired his staff from NY, France, the Mediteranean, etc. and they were highly trained and I believe they were HHIs only Michelin 3-star restaurant. Rumors were the wait staff also made 6 figure salaries. Had to have reservations there and expect to drop $300-500 per couple. It closed years ago when the owner died.

Alexanders used to have a bad reputation, but again the wait staff could bring home tons of money each night. Wise Guys is also pretty tough on the staff as is Frankie Bones, both of which I like a lot.

My favorites are Sante Fe Cafe, Frankie Bones, Wise Guys, Boathouse II, and, of course, Hudson's. In Bluffton, I like Truffles, May River Grill, Bluffton (Toomer's) Seafood House. and The Bluffton Room (pricey), If you want to buy your own seafood, the Bluffton Oyster Company. At all these restaurants, the wait staff get to keep the money they earned, it doesn't go into a community pot and then divided. You keep what you earn.

Thanks for your help!

We haven't previously dined at all of those locations. But, we are familiar with most of them. We travel to HHI 2 - 3 times/year for trips lasting 7 - 10 days at a time.

Our experience with Wise Guys and Frankie Bones has been hit or miss on both the food and the service. Hudson's always outstanding.

Some of the others (Some are "Touristy" I know, but we enjoy them.) that we frequent or like...

- Nunzio's - never been disappointed
- Red Fish - always good
- Old Oyster Factory - OK
- Capt Woody's, Crazy Crab and Skull Creek - Good coastal bar fare
- The British Open Pub - I like the British pub fare. My wife thinks the Geezer-Central vibe is hilarious.

More touristy - One Hot Mama's, O'Reilly's and Giuseppe's - None of which are flashy. But, all are solid
The Sea Shack - Probably the most reasonably priced fresh seafood on the island. The experience and service are at best a "novelty".

I want to try HH Prime and Alexandre's. But, my wife freaks out at paying $100 for a steak. However, she will think nothing of "chugging" $125 worth of wine.

Thanks, again!

Capt Woody's is a staple...and you can usually get in.

Agree on the Sea Shack....seldom mention it because it is the definition of a hole in the wall.

Love One Hot Mama's (I know Orchid)...I go to the one in Bluffton. Guiseppi's is good but' I like NY City Pizza better. I like O'Reillys better than the BOP....the BOP has seriously raised its prices.

Never been to HH Prime. The Bluffton Room is as pricey as Alexanders....but both have great food.

Anytime.

So the NPOY in WBB not invited to the ESPY’s is BS at best. I loathe ESPN due to liberal BS politics, then they dis’ the best player in college WBB. A special kind of stupid. I don’t blame Dawn one damn bit, I would have done the same in her spot.
Really? You would support one of your players? Can't believe Dawn is so shortsighted.

DS never backs down in using her voice when it comes to taking a stand for things happening off or on the court.

She is also a strong supporter WBB and made her career due to Title 9 which is good for female athletes

My question for DS and I wish a reporter would ask, why are you silent on Chicks With Sticks competing in female sports? You have outrage over Boston not being nominated by ESPN. Do you have same outrage over a guy being nominated for NCAA Female Athlete of the Year?

Why no outrage, no statements, no tweets female sports should stay for female athletes

Maybe she's cool with it or she is choosing her battles.

The OP is off base some here imo. I don’t support everything DS believes in politically. I’ve been trying to separate my political beliefs from athletics, I just wish athletes would try to do the same. Boston should have been invited to the ESPY’s.

Excellent question and a real reporter should ask it. I'm sure she has an opinion and I would like to hear her answer.

Imagine if another coach did the same but supported Trump and the policies of the republican party. Imagine one of our coaches wearing a MAGA hat during a game.
The difference is that Dawn's agenda is about empowering the unempowered, not grabbing all the power for yourself and your cronies.

Besides, for me, MAGA means Mexican American Grocers Association.

I don’t see how this couldn’t be a battle she would want to take a stand for. This battle is for all NCAA Women’s Sports, not an individual award given out by a sports tv station.
Organizations try to create a even playing field with different divisions, classifications, etc.

Right now, my thinking is that trans people need their own competitive division. The problem with that is that far too many of those who abhor transsexual anything would harass and threaten such individuals.

I personally am not keen on homosexuality, transsexuality, etc., but I am quite cognizant that our Constitutional Republic has to protect life and liberty of all residents. If we prohibit the aforementioned, Buddhism could be next. Then Judaism, etc.

My recent team lead, who just left the company, is transsexual. This person left for economic, reasons not for harassment of any kind. We got along okay. I even sent a good-bye/ good-luck text message.

I don't have to love anybody, but at minimum I must civilly tolerate others.

Lots of hot topics out there. Few, if any, are black-and-white simple. Most are complex with many nuances.

No idea how Dawn stands on any of this. Personally, I think she is smart to focus on a few areas where she can be most effective, rather than spreading herself thin.

FYI Here are the only 3 trans athletes to play college basketball

Gabbi Ludwig
Basketball, Mission College (California)

Gabbi Ludwig was 6-foot-8 and 50 years old when she competed for the Mission College women’s basketball team, facing some vocal opposition associated with rival teams, featured eventually by HBO Sports.

Max Nagle
Basketball, Hollins University (Virginia)
Max Nagle came out to teammates and identified as a man during his freshman year with the women’s basketball team. He continued playing for three seasons until he opted to take testosterone, which by NCAA rule made him ineligible to compete on the women’s team.

Kye Allums
Basketball, George Washington University (DC)
Kye Allums was the first college basketball player to come out publicly as transgender, a trans man on the women’s basketball team in Division I in 2010. Allums came out before the NCAA had announced its trans-athlete policy.

No, it's not. It's about more black faces. Period. Not about "equality" either. You can look at the racial makeup of her teams and see that.

And it's not just her. Tara VanDerveer hasn't hired a man for the 35 years she's been coaching. Not ONE. Outright said she won't hire a man. Muffet McGraw said she won't hire men.

Sometimes, when you get so obsessed with something like race or gender, you become the exact thing you claim to stand against.

Nothing says bush league coach and ACTIVIST more than going after one of the Wokest companies ever because one of your players did not get invited to an awards ceremony. Each coach in every league from high school up could act this way with one of their star players. Some stay classy and let their players do the talking….OTHERS LIKE STALEY….well they constantly yap like a rabid chihuahua . Embarrassing
Bush league fan and supporter of SC athletics IMO. You clearly have other issues with DS.
take your vitriol elsewhere

Number of NBA coaches that said they won't hire a woman?
First it’s NCAA Asst coaches. 350 division 1 teams in basketball, each allowed 4 assistant coaches. 1,400 assistant coach positions.......3 women. Their actions speaks volumes more than any words out of Tara’s mouth.
Obviously you read the same article about VanderVeer and McGraw that I did. She clearly states she made a decision to not hire male assistants even though she loved coaching with the one male assistant she had.

What you failed to mention is her thought process. That women have no path in basketball circles except in the women’s game. She said she clearly made the choice to grow chances for women the game. You obviously excluded that to smear her.

Not sure you would have the same attitude if Shane Beamer had won 2 National Championships and was supporting Spencer Rattler, who was not invited to a national ceremony after getting an award nomination. Dawn is using the national recognition and reputation she has earned to support her team and her players as any coach worth their salt would do.
If you don't like Dawn personally just say so.
If you don't like WBB then focus on non-WBB threads.
Defending Boston is Dawn's job and she does her job very well.

The post was people in SC dont care, not minority, not majority, he spoke to a group that he wishes to identify with that is not a real group
If no one was a fan then we would not have the highest attendance in the NCAA for years on end
Is it football big, no, but more fans attend WBB games than any other sport at SC than football
So you do not care either, thats cool, but unless someone else has appointed either of you spokesperson, quiet down

I’m confused how religion and a companies hiring practices enter the discussion of men competing in womens sports

The last statement is a major part of the issue
“Few areas where she can be most effective”

As stated numerous times in this post, she is a two time and current NC WBB Coach. She was the current coach for the US Olympics Team and played for several gold medal teams.

Tell me what coach in Women’s Sports could be more qualified to speak on behalf to save Women’s Sports at all levels. She’s never backed down on other issues. This a topic she should speak about and she could make a difference by doing it

Not sure how many times people have to tell some of you. Nobody cares about women's basketball.
Just wanted to let you know Chris Wellbaum posted his 11th edition of Gamecocks in the WNBA report. I thought this might be a good opportunity for you to express your disdain for Gamecock WBB to a staff person directly instead of being a craven little troll yapping on threads with people who enjoy WBB.

Here’s the link

Did you watch the epsys?
As a matter of fact I did. However I don't go around telling others what I am not interested in implying they should not be interested either. I certainly don't try to speak for the entire state as you did. Why do you need to be that person?

The majority of this state doesn't care about it.
