I'm thinking about visiting the "old board" and searching for posts abusing me for calling out Franklin shortly after he was hired. As is usual, I am being proven correct with the passage of time on my initial assessment despite the abuse I have taken in the course.

That's okay, I'm a resilient individual.

Ultimately poor in game decisions were the difference.

Can you provide a list of PSU opt outs? All I see is McSorley, Parsons, Miller, Freiermuth, Sanders, Hamler, Dotson, Thompkins, etc all played.

I was referring to the bowl game with Arkansas, I think someone mentioned KY in the thread (KY didn't mean Kentucky).
Derrick Tangelo, Arnold Ebiketie, Jahan Dotson, Jaquan Brisker, Ellis Brooks and Brandon Smith

He was talking about the Outback Bowl loss to Arkansas.

Looks like six opt outs, five on defense. Linebackers were a big loss but still had Jacobs and Luketa. Ja’yir Brown played too. Also had Parker Washington and KLS.

On Wednesday, defensive tackle Derrick Tangelobecame the sixth Penn State player to opt out of the bowl game to begin preparations for the 2022 NFL Draft. He follows defensive end Arnold Ebiketie, wide receiver Jahan Dotson, safety Jaquan Briskerand linebackers Ellis Brooks and Brandon Smith in forgoing the Outback Bowl.

I think the Penn State Football fan base needs to make things very uncomfortable for James Franklin going forward. People need to be vocal on social media and in the stadium and to his face in public and let him know we will not accept his lackadaisical, unprepared product. Todays Boo’s and people yelling and cursing at him as he walked through the tunnel at the end of the game.

I'm not exactly sure what is meant when a coach is referred to as "a Quarterback's coach". It seems pretty apparent that James Franklin is NOT a "Quarterback's coach".

Franklin might be a decent guy, but come on already! How many important winnable games are we going to lose? For a little less than $10 million per, I could coach this team to a 10-2 record!
Yeah. This can’t be understated: ANY coach could come into this program and beat 10 cupcakes. That’s a product of having a huge stadium, traditions like the White Out, and a ton of home-grown talent that’s easy to recruit.

“Coffee is for closers”, right? And so is $8.5 million/year. For that kind of money, you need to be competitive with Michigan and Ohio State every season, and not be 4-17 against them.

All that matters is what Kraft thinks. I‘m not sure that Neeli would tell Kraft what to think.

Stop showing up for games - a half empty Beaver Stadium is VERY noticeable on TV. I know it sucks for the kids, but they’re pretty much paid employees now anyways. Otherwise, what incentive is there for the AD to make any changes.

Honestly, it’s gotten so bad of late that I’ve found myself agreeing with Davey more than I care to admit. He’s not wrong!!

Franklin: Points will be tough to come by, so instead of taking near guaranteed points via extra point attempt, I thought it prudent to try much riskier two point conversions despite my offense not playing so hot all season. And one time we’ll do a swinging gate to try to convert.

That game had, like 9 starters missing, mostly on defense.
You sound like Franklin, to many excuses. Just Win.

I think its 4-16 but that is not cutting it.

What a complete clown this guy is. Blatantly making his excuse for losing again while pretending he's saying it isn't good enough. His efforts to be too cute by half in his press conferences fare no better than his efforts to do the same in every big game.
I was worried people weren’t picking up on the veiled attempt to make an excuse.

Fortunately, if it was too subtle, he repeated his ******** line about how we just saw, “two of the best teams in the country.” No, James. Ohio State and Michigan are two of the best teams in the country. You are no longer a part of that conversation for 2023.

It’s painfully evident that he is fine with these results based on these types of comments. If they accidentally win, hey great, but if they lose, it doesn’t matter because “they’re really good” and it’s acceptable to always lose to tough opponents.

I wouldn’t trade Franklin for Ruhle, as I watched him try to coach at Carolina Panthers and fail miserably.
But, Franklin does make a lot of strange calls for my taste. When he went for two on the first touchdown, I thought it was foolish. The fourth down call with plenty of time on the clock and the D playing well was extremely foolish in my opinion. Going for two on the last TD basically ended the game.
But then, I guess there’s a reason he makes the big bucks, and I’m on Soc Security at home.
Maybe next year the blind squirrel will find that golden acorn.
P.S. Our QB also needs a little more polish before next year.
My main concern is that I’m running out of “next years”. 😳
My concern, too. Not a happy camper today. Will be really depressed if we lose Diaz.

The natives are getting restless…
Sad. But this is what you get with minor league football. Amateur kids representing your school should never be booed.

Semi-pros? That’s another story.

Sad.

But this is what you get when you settle for mediocrity (by Penn State’s standards).

Unfortunately, there are enough fanboys that propped up the DEI decision-making that stuck PSU for a ten year extension of this crap.

Just another example of dumbing down of our society with “everyone gets a trophy.”

I don't worry too much about the NFL stint. Nobody was winning with the QB options he had. See also, Nick Saban and Dolphins; Steve Spurrier and Redskins.

Franklin's strange calls also seem to always come in these biggest games. He tries so hard to outsmart, get cute, and do the unexpected, that he ends up just doing things that are irrational and nonsensical. We only ever run these trick plays, the philly special (even though it worked, I thought it was stupid), halfback pass, WR pass, etc., against the top teams.

The 2-point before halftime is indefensible. You think points are going to be hard to come by, so you forego the free 1 point for a 50/50 shot at 2? Huh? However, the 2-point attempt with 2 minutes left I have no issue with. In order to tie the game, you have to make a 2-point conversion, so it really doesn't matter if you go for it the first or second time, it has to be done. Might as well find out right then whether you're still down 2 scores or just 1. Now, the actual play call on the other hand..... And of course the only reason we had to go for 2 was the idiotic decision to go for 2 in the first half, sooo...

Could not disagree with you more on going for 2 down 9. Absolute ridiculously bad call…you end the game in one play where you could have extended it with multiple plays. Typical Franklin nonsense. He needs to go.

Yeah, we should never expect to beat top 10 teams. Losing to every great team we play every single time is perfectly acceptable!
You misunderstood my comment. I just don't understand why people who hate the coach so much, hate the job the coach does every Saturday, and get so upset watching games continue to watch. They should go support a team like Michigan or Ohio State or Alabama and they would be seemingly be happier. If watching Penn State football is such a problem for people, stop watching it. Then they wouldn't be so upset all the time.

Just because people are making objective analysis of the game and coaching does not mean they are unhappy.

I had a very enjoyable day watching an exciting ballgame in great weather, tailgating with my extended family, visiting some Football Letterman friends, and spending quality time with my daughters.

I am quite sure others who are critical have similar stories.
