There are around 100 other schools that would be thrilled to be PSU with Franklin. Covid year should just be thrown out but aside from that? Top ten ? 10+ wins ? 10 other teams in just the big Ten alone would trade places

Big Game James will get Penn State into the playoff when it expands to 12 teams. He might even win a game or two. But don't expect any championships

I like Coach, he's a great recruiter, an outstanding representative for PSU, he knows where the problems are, fans or the press don't have to tell him.
The only input i have as an older fan is this, Michigan was really bad but somehow righted the ship, i don't know what they did , but they are good across the board in all areas especially on the O- Line. I know the portal helped them significantly, especially at QB. Same with OSU, getting Fields in. Our problem is WR, we need big WR's from big schools .
When it's college or pro you have to copy what's working at other institutions.

Are you really this stupid or just blind? 116 schools in Div 1 so besides UGA Clemson OSU Alabama Michigan as a constant 5 ND would jump on Franklin . Every other team in the Big Ten not named OSU or MU would. Do you need me to show how stupid you are in more detail? How has Texas done in last 10 yrs? USC? Texas AM ? TCU was a fluke last yr to make playoff. Deion is generating more interest and $$$ but will he really win? Tell me mr smart guy just who are you planning to hire? Just a stupid stupid take.
CJF isn’t a fraud. Great guy, good recruiter, very good evaluator of talent, excellent rep for the school. He just isn’t a top 5 coach and he can’t assemble a complete staff. Mark Richt. No shame in it, but ten years is enough.
Many schools would want him… but the top schools would only be happy with him right up until they realized they’d be good but never win a title with him.
Also, you might want to note that the “besides” schools you list are the ones who wouldn’t accept Franklin’s limits, and that’s why they’re the only teams who actually compete for titles. If you’re okay not being a legit title contender, then yes, James is fine.
That's not a healthy mindset. In fact, it should be the goal. And losing just about every year to Ohio State and Michigan should be unacceptable. But strangely, many here seem to be just fine with it. With regard to another area of the program, if you haven't already, checkout the players' graduation performance vs. the rest of the Conference.

The schools consistently ranked higher than Penn State wouldn’t hire him today.
Inside the box some PSU fans think or basically pretend he is awful. Other schools see a coach who consistently puts team in the top 10. So yes a ton of schools would love to have him. FSU and USC were two that approached him in years past. I"m sure there were others too.....but some fans are emotional twits after a loss and some are in life in general. Watch any site after a loss and their coach is a moron. OSU fans are already sending whispers about Day due to his losses to UM. UM fans wanted Harbaugh gone just 2 years ago. Some fans are just idiots and we have to hear them unfortunately.
Penn State's administration would be thrilled with these responses. To see that the fan base has accepted 10-2 as this program's ceiling is fantastic news to them.

Thanks for proving my point. As long as they can get 100K in the stadium, they won't change. As long as the kids graduate and there are no major scandals, you can continue to look down your nose at the Ohio States and Alabamas of the world and celebrate those wins over Iowa and Maryland.
In the meantime, the Ohio States, Georgias and Alabamas of the world are trying to win national championships and are thrilled that Penn State is satified with being second tier.

Franklin is a good coach, a good man, and a good representative of our university.
He is not, nor do I think he ever will be, a great coach.
I think the problem is more one of trajectory. I think it's been Midnighter (forgive me if I'm wrong on that) that has pointed out that coaches seem to "peak" around year 3-4 in terms of CFP/MNC potential. I think what happens then is that other coaches "figure them out" and find a way to beat them.
While Saban's run at Bama lasted a long time, people are starting to "figure him out". Smart certainly has. In time, someone will figure him out as well.
Looks like Dabo has been "figured out" too.
Harbaugh has figured out how to beat OSU, but in time someone will figure him out as well (but I think he's NFL bound anyway.

Now, as people have pointed out, I would sign up for 10-2 perennial Top Ten finishes, but.....
My fear is who is figuring Franklin out? He went from vying with OSU as best in the conference to vying with UM for second in the conference. The fear with Franklin isn't perennial 3rd place finishes......the fear in year 10 is what other teams are figuring HIM out.
