I love the portal.......

My reasoning:

1 - I care even less about high school recruiting now, and it's become even easier for MSU. Just recruit the base area as always, MS, and the leftovers from surrounding states or wherever a coach has a tie. Plenty of P5 athletes there.
2 - All the guys who spurn us for Alabama and LSU will eventually need to come back (probably 80% at least). A 4 star on the bench at Alabama doesn't exactly mean a guy isn't talented.
3 - It makes all these overpaid coaches work harder. Have we ever stopped and thought about how crazy it was that these guys salaries shot up the way it has, while the workload didn't change for 40+ years until now?

However, it does work both ways doesn't it? The 'haves' will also use the portal to poach the best players. But honestly, unless your team sucks, those guys likely aren't leaving us, and especially now that we have a little NIL to keep them here.

Speaking of NIL, if anything, THAT is what will destabilize the 'haves'. Let's let Tennessee and Texas A&M and Miami fight it out with Alabama and Georgia. It really doesn't affect us, we'll still get the same players we always have. We can strategically use ours to keep current players and maybe pay an elite defensive lineman from in-state or two per year. That said, since we're a 'have' in baseball, we will likely start seeing some top recruits get picked off (Skenes for example). But let's not act like LSU was always out-recruiting us anyway.

The COVID Era has sucked, and I'm glad it's almost over, but it did bring about some needed, accelerated changes in college sports. And now we've got the expanded playoff. The only thing that sucks is these super conferences, but oh well. Omelet, eggs, etc.

ETA: And why does Bo Bounds dumb *** keep saying Leach doesn't use the portal? We got 6 in 2020 and 7 in 2021 (before the immediate eligibility rule), and then brought in 9 in 2022. No basis whatsoever to say Leach doesn't fully use the portal.

Because we didn't bring in a 5 star hero like Dart or Zach Evans, we aren't throwing portal parties on the Square, and haven't come up with a dumb slogan like "come to the Sip".

Bounds is an MSU grad but he mad that we don't live the "yall lifestyle" and have the frat boy atmosphere like they do up in Oxpatch.

Yeah I don't know why Bo says that. We've used the portal well just haven't been dependent on it or make a big deal out of it like Ole miss. You gotta realize, Bo does about 0 research on his takes. Unless someone hands him the stats or one of his guests tell him something, he won't know it. But last year we got 4* S from Michigan, 4*CB from FSU, 4*wr from UGA, and 4* CB from bama. Those players we would've never goten out of HS. That's why I believe the portal will help programs like ours and can bring more parity. We've already seen that... Bama doesn't have near the depth they use to have, especially on the defensive side and WR.

I'm interested to see how NIL and the portal affect coaches salaries going forward. The idea has always been spending more money = winning more. But all you could really spend money on were facilities and coaches. So that's why salaries have skyrocketed.

But the old saying --- it's not the x's & o's but the jimmy's & joe's. Are you better off spending $10-million / yr on your coaching staff, or finding a less expensive coach and using more of that money on the players?

Because Bounds likes to lie to bring about change? or maybe he is just a shock jock trying to push buttons. Maybe he likes to cause fractures because he isn't a MSU fan.

But he did Lie and managed to say Trevon Williams as a true freshman should be playing because that's how you develop players. I laughed.

Yeah, there’s no argument that Leach at least attempts to use it. Using it effectively, however, may be another discussion.

looking at the 23 transfers from the last 3 years per 247, it seems like Leach is having around a 40% hit rate, but who knows… that may not be far off from the national average. For every Makai Polk or Jalen Green that come in ready to work, there are probably a dozen Shavers out there.

Yeah that take was ridiculous, sounded like Rosey was trying to be nice and tell him how stupid he was. He's trying to go the route of Finebaum and he really shouldn't. His show is pretty good without that.

Bo will keep saying that as long as you hear it and run to the interwebs to complain about it.

It doesn't matter, it's just a point of discussion. I like his show. I'm more curious how someone could come to that conclusion. Even if you're just trolling, still doesn't seem like a good idea to have dumb takes.

It's all fun and games until one of our all-SEC players leaves for Bama or OM.

And how often is that really going to happen? Only time I can really remember it happening to anyone is the WR going from Georgia to Alabama, and I don't think they care too much. Same with Malik Heath.

Old Biblical saying.....The Portal Giveth and the Portal Taketh Away...........and the main question is.....Are our incoming portal players better than our outgoing portal players? I suppose the key metric will now be....."Net Portal" Hopefully, our Net Portal Number will be a positive number and not a negative.

The rumors are flying that UK is about to lose a star freshman or two to UT and it’s all because they have been slow getting out of the NIL gate.

I think you’re right. It’s coming.

Bo Bounds is an idiot. He makes the dumbest statements. I called him out on the 4 star receivers skit he was doing a few months back and sent him a list of 4 star MSU receivers. He tried to argue that he meant out of high school. Portal didnt count. He just talks ****. His show is a 2 hour ad.

The portal plus NIL is going to only serve to further compartmentalize the talent into more refined tiers. The gap between the bottom half SEC teams is going to continue to get larger vs. the G5 and some of the weaker P5 conferences (PAC and Big12). Likewise, the gap between those same teams and the Top SEC / Big10 tier is also going to get bigger.

The end result is going to be bad for college football. Games will only be interesting when teams within the same tier play each other. They will be over before they start when teams from different tiers play each other. It’s almost already that way now.

Not sure if I've evah listened to Bo in my life but I trust just enough here to summarize he's a douche. I too enjoy an occassional cigar & a chilled spirit but I'd nevah be ghey enough to have a pic of me partaking. And yea, there IS something wrong with doing that IMO.
