I was reminding my brother how we’d set everything aside to tune in for Chris Jackson and Hubbard is like that for a lot of mon-State eyes and ears. We should cast a wide net in the portal, who wants a year playing with Hubb ? I know we won’t have as many needs this year but it would be great to get some icing.

His first step will make ESPN.com freeze up instantaneously

edit to add…I was grateful enough to watch Chris at Gulfport and remember…I need Shane to pump the brakes, slightly, with all do respect.
He is in the same conversation.

Chris Jackson played 37 minutes a game and put up 23 shots a game. 47% field goal. 85% free throws. Averaged 28 points per game (adjust that for points per minute played and # of shot attempts for Josh). Needless to say, Chris got the 100% green light in minutes and shots.

Josh Hubbard freshman year played 27 minutes a game and put up 14 shots a game. 38% field goal. 85% free throws. Averaged 17 points per game.

Both were all SEC freshman and all SEC. Chris got POY each of his two seasons but lets be honest, he was the only one at that level in the SEC back then.

2024-2025 season is looking really good for Josh so far stat wise.

Are we allowed to call him Chris Jackson because we are talking about him before he converted to Islam? I don't know the rules on this stuff. I just don't want anyone to get canceled, or whatever
No worries, I think we grew out of that canceling-over-stupid-stuff phase a couple weeks ago**

In all seriousness, I don't know what the official answer is, but he was still Chris Jackson when he was doing all that stuff in college, so it seems logical and appropriate to me. I'm pretty sure the olympic history books still say Cassius Clay won the gold in 1960. And I assume they still say Bruce Jenner won the decathalon in 76. Those guys changed their names later.

I was in the court with Chris in 1988. Unreal accuracy. When I saw him he was better than any NBA shooter I've ever seen. He didn't try to merely make his shots in the scrimmage. He was bored with that. He was hitting the back on the rim on every shot and it was going straight down. 30-40-50 shots in a row. While being guarded, on the move, hands in his face. He was already at 10,000 hours as a senior in high school. The only guy I've seen in that conversation is Curry. A+++ game.

I do think Hubbard will get close to similar production in college as Chris got. The difference is when Chris was in the zone. You'll never see that in your life probably.

I was skeptical of how much better Hubbard could get, but based on what I’ve seen so far, he’s playing on another level.

Legit conference player of the year potential

I think he’s already our most beloved men’s basketball player of the last 15 years. Gotta go back to Gordon or Varnado for anyone close to as popular. And he very likely ends up surpassing those guys by the time he’s done.

Woah there, Q was kinda great on the court and kinda beloved by the fans.
...and kinda is an understatement.

"In practice at Gulfport High, coach Bert Jenkins would put a player on the free throw line and tell him the more consecutive free throws he made, the less running and fewer drills he and his teammates would do that day.

One day when Jenkins chose Jackson, he drilled 283 consecutive free throws. Jenkins cancelled the rest of practice."

Q was great but our fans did not support the men’s program at all when he was here.
Q was wildly popular and the program was absolutely supported by fans. Avg attendance was 7954 in 18-19, Q's last season. Thats higher than Varnado's last year when they went to the NCAA Tournament.
That avg attendance is also lower than last season and lower than some other seasons back in the '00s.

But average attendance doesnt mean a player was beloved or not beloved. Thats a bad metric to use. Q was beloved- simple as that. The dude was homegrown, played hard all the time, stayed out of known drama, and was successful. He was beloved, regardless of attendance.

I would argue Hubbard is already more popular than Q ever was, but that’s just my sense on the matter. Not a perfect way to gauge that. Not a knock on Q at all. I just think interest in the program is much higher now than it was 5-6 years ago, when our men’s team wasn’t even the most popular basketball team on campus.

I watched a lot of Super D in person when I was younger. He had a little different looking shot and it always seemed to roll around the rim before going in. He was clutch with his shots though. Hubbard is a much better athlete that Wilson and I believe has a better shot with more lift in his jumpshot. Hubbard can create his own shot better and is better driving the lane. Props also go to Winsome Frazier. He had better height than both and looked like he needed a sammich. Thin fella, but could ball.

Does anyone know if Hubbard has had a chance to shoot some hoops and chat with Chris Jackson? Mississippi boys. That should be filmed.

Also, I think the comparison to Chris Jackson is mostly about his quickness both off the dribble and to elevate and shoot. They both can play the 1 and 2. Maybe similar height. Ability to get on incredible streaks. And soon to be, stats.

I know the rules for Trans people, since I've had a few Trans employees. It's fine to acknowledge Bruce Jenner's athletic accomplishments. What you cannot do is suggest Caitlyn Jenner and Bruce Jenner are at all related.

So Mahmoud Abdul Rauf never played at LSU?

He isn't Trans, he converted to Islam.

I'm not sure how converted Muslims feel about their pre-conversion identity. It would be rude to call him Chris Jackson to his face, but otherwise I don't know.

If you met Paul the Apostle (not to be confused with Chris Paul) would you call him Saul?

If you are discussing his life as a Pharisee, do you call him Paul, or Saul?

I honestly don't know, bit I'm pretty sure Saul and Paul are considered the same person and it's okay to acknowledge that.

To answer the question, Abdul- Rauf played at LSU while he was still using the name Chris Jackson.

I was being facetious in my posts on this topic, but I don't know if it's considered rude to just vaguely discuss the athletic ability of "Chris Jackson". Maybe it's better to say "the athlete formerly known as...."

If Chris Jackson never existed we’d be talking about Jeff Malone and Litteral Green.
