No way to know without knowing the SEC CG participants and result, or the results of other league games.
Just ridiculous how badly college football has botched everything. Can’t even pontificate with any degree of accuracy with these giant leagues with nobody playing anybody.
What’s really astounding is of that list Ole Miss only played Georgia. Softest schedule ever.
I think you're right about Texas, but their resume will be pretty weak at 10-2 with a loss to A&M.
Hard to imagine Georgia not making it. Who has 2 better wins than Tennessee and Texas?
A great question. A lot depends on the rest of the country. But that 10-2 cluster is hard to sort through. So I think it just gets simpled to this:
*SEC Championship game doesn’t count other than seeding. Loser is not penalized for losing it, barring a total blowout.
* The rest of the teams get stacked this way: +1 for a great win. -1 for a loss that’s not to a great team. For example, Ole Miss right now is tracking towards +1 for Georgia win but -2 for UK and LSU losses who I guess ends up 7-5. So they are at -1. Tennessee is tracking towards a -1 for Arkansas and a +1 for Bama to put them at an even zero. And tiebreakers get settled by head to head if that metric is tied. I think Ole Miss is going to be in one of the worst positions in this scenario because their schedule is weaker, having played only one elite team (Georgia).
I agree. Texas is hard to justify at 10-2 with their best win over…..Vanderbilt I guess?? Only justification is how high they’ve been ranked all year I guess
I think what helps Ole Miss is that they were a pre-season Top 10 team. Meaning they expected at worst 10-2 and at best 11-1 and most likely that 1 was supposed to be to UGA. But they beat them. So the UGA win essentially cancelled out the UK loss and they played LSU in Baton Rouge.
I think in looking at it close, 4 are locks in this case. A&M, Georgia, Tennessee, and Bama. And the SEC very likely gets a 5th team in barring conference championship chaos in another conference. Ole Miss should deserve it over Texas. But Texas has the name and the high ranking all year. But man, that home loss to UK is a resume stinker that’s easy to look at and push Ole Miss to the bottom of that list.
I think Bama, Georgia, and the A&M/Texas winner are all in.

Georgia has the best wins by far. After that probably Bama and maybe Tennessee. A&M and OM are at the bottom.

They trounced Georgia late in the season, a week before Georgia handled Tennessee with relative ease. They also trounced a South Carolina team that will likely end up a Top 20 win. Yeah they lost to Kentucky and LSU, but by a combined 6 points. They also beat Georgia and Arkansas handily, the two teams that beat Tennessee.
Tennessee ends up on the outside looking in.

Right…..have to go with the worse losses but OM has Kentucky and LSU. But Tennessee beat Kentucky. What a mess.
I agree it’s a jumbled mess because of the bloated conference and uneven schedules. Maybe I’ll revise my opinion to, “Ole Miss may not be a lock, but they’re in over Tennessee.” Because I feel strongly that they are. When you lose matters too.
That loss to Kentucky is like they took Amber Heard home after the bar...
y’all need to look at Texas and aTm’s schedules…..they have beaten NOBODY. Neither deserve to be in the playoff.
I know I’m biased, but their weak *** non-con schedule and a home loss to (probably) 4-8 Kentucky would be enough for me to leave them out.
There has never been more variance in SEC SOS. 10-2 SEC team ≠ 10-2 SEC team. It will be interesting to see how the committee deals with that.
But all those 10-2 SEC teams have much stronger schedules than most of the country. All 5 of the 2-loss SEC teams have SOS in the Top 36 on ESPN’s rankings.

Pretty crazy. Zero undefeated teams with a Top 50 SOS, and only three 1-loss teams with a Top 50 SOS. It’s like, playing harder teams makes you lose more games and stuff. Indiana with an SOS that is 32 spots below Boise State. I’m telling yall….if IU gets soundly beaten by Ohio State, they are going to tumble.
According to everything I’ve seen so far Big gets 4 and SEC will get four. IU would be in there. SEC gets four, the thing is the SEC is still beating up on eachother. The Big is pretty much a foregone conclusion without much controversy To their finish.

Maybe. But NOBODY knows what the committee really thinks about IU right now. Not the talking heads, not the idiotic AllState Playoff predictor, not Vegas oddsmakers, nobody. They have played absolutely nobody. Their outlook will be a lot more clear on the Tuesday after the Ohio State game….or sooner if they win.
IU vs. Ohio State is a big domino to fall. Then you have the B1G title game between Oregon and the winner of IU / Ohio State.
Ohio State could easily have 2 losses heading into the CFP (whether its IU or Oregon who deals them the 2nd). How far would they fall? IU could have 1 loss with a significantly worse SOS than Boise State, who is currently 13th in the CFP (also with only 1 loss).
