Was 'communist' really one of the terms the left used to describe a potential Trump 2nd term?
Boy, I don't think I read or heard that. He was called a lot of things, but I really don't remember him being called a communist.
I don't remember communist, but Hitler and fascist were pretty commonly thrown around

Thune has already said they will do it the normal way, no recess appointments.
Actually, he said recess appointments "are on the table" to get Trump appointments through. Which was part of the deal they made...

Not what I've seen. Recess appointments were fine and dandy when Senators had to rely on horses to get to Washington. They have no place now. Switch rolls, I bet you wouldn't be comfortable with Harris doing it. I wouldn't be either. If you don't want the opposition to have a power when they are ascendant, do NOT claim it for yourself when you are ascendent.

A little elaborating: Our Revolution was fought in name against the tyranny of King George III. That was useful propaganda. Every single thing in the Constitution was actually aimed at limiting the power of the majority in the Legislature/Parliament. The Founders knew what they were actually fighting against in the Revolution, even if they said otherwise.

Yeah tongue in cheek. It definitely was a mandate to fix cost of living and immigration. Stop focusing on the margins and get back to being able to eat on your paycheck. Not sure sure it was a mandate to assemble the cabinet from Idiocracy though...
Fix cost of living?

Trump's two big campaign promises:
1. Mass Deportation of undocumented immigrants
2. More Restrictive Trade regulations and higher tariffs on imported goods

Would BOTH *raise* food prices.

American-grown staples would get more expensive due to domestic labor shortage.
Imported foods would get more expensive due to double digit import taxes..

So if "fixing cost of living" was the number 1 campaign issue for people - they just got 17'd!

Thune has said recess appointments are on the table. There’s some hand wringing by quite a few R senators that might derail that talk but Thune is on board with it.

Gaetz, Hegseth, and RFK are WTF are you doing picks. The rest are good. Noem, Collins, Burgum (drill baby drill), and Rubio are solid

Sad to see half of Oktibbeha County will be heading over to Bluesky
I signed up on Bluesky and this is what I found

Tumbleweeds Plains GIF

The “blue” in Bluesky is pretty accurate. Looked like a giant echo chamber of left leaning Twitter haters.

Exactly. Real socialism and real communism have never been tried. I mean, durn, 90 million people dead because of these fake attempts and people are willing to give up on trying it the right way? Bunch of wuses and no comrades of mine.
It was what it was. 90 million or a billion people being dead still don’t make it what you want it to be. Fact remains it was about as socialist as the United States’ state-capitalism is pure capitalist. Probably less so because it was just another form of state-capitalism.

Interesting. Like someone above, I wonder what the turnout was. I noticed a whole lot of apathy in Democrats I talked to. Plenty of dislike of Trump, but not much enthusiasm for Harris.

Edited to add that Sec. State had Oktibbeha at 26894 active voters as of September, so that's about 66%
What’s interesting to me is I travel for work all over NE Mississppi and the only place I can find a bunch of Democrats is on sixpackspeak.

LOL! Two wrongs don't make a right. Not all of his appointments have been bad. Some have been very good. Most have been ok. But come on, GAETZ? RFK? HEGSETH? We won't have to worry about Gaetz, he will not be confirmed. I doubt he makes it to the confirmation hearing. The other two will get there. I think RFK will be confirmed, with Democratic help. Who knows about Hegseth. He is an unqualified unknown.
I'm not sure Hegseth gets there now. Those tats are going to be a problem.

What is really funny is the Nazi party was the National Socialist party. Shortened to Nazi. Socialist. Not conservative.
This is true but it’s an in accurate attempt to pretend that far left leads to socialism or authoritarianism. Far left leads toward anarchy as the preferred brand of crazy. It’s just really hard to get people to goose step in anarchy. It’s not so hard to turn people into fearful hyper nationalists willing to follow evil men…I’m not suggesting Trump is socialist, he’s just batshit crazy narcissist who will do whatever most helps him. So really no ideology is out of the question if he can keep up the grift.

“the Nazi Party, officially the National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NSDAP), was a far-right political party in Germany active between 1920 and 1945 that created and supported the ideology of Nazism.”

In the 1920s, Mussolini and Giovanni Gentile described their ideology as right-wing in the political essay The Doctrine of Fascism, stating: "We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the 'right,' a fascist century."

Wild to me that a majority party in the senate would just voluntarily punt on at least giving the appearance of due diligence and carrying out an expected constitutional check by rubber stamping their own president's nominees. We can argue who is qualified and who isn't but that right there screams there's some insanity in the works.

Yeah, i saw that last night. He also said that he intended to grind though it the normal way. We shall see. I don't want to see it, because the Dems will do it even more the next time they are in. I think it should be outlawed.

I don’t think many of his fellow republicans want to go along with recess appointments. At least with some of these nominations.

I think that's just the percent registered, not the turnout, but you could be right. In general, turnout was lower everywhere. Under 60% here and was 65% in 2020, even with Covid restrictions (no early or mail-in voting here, typically. Absentee might have been a little easier to get then).

Overall, the cabinet is good so far.

Gaetz, I hate. He's a moron. My hope is, since he resigned already, he won't get confirmed and will be gone forever.

I get having doubt about RFK. I would rather Rand Paul or someone else. But we knew this was probably coming bc of the endorsement, so...here we are. Not too worried, bc our institutions are strong enough to keep him from doing too much damage. If that weren't the case, all the cross dressing kleptomaniacs we've had in DC for the last 4 years would've already ruined the place.

Outside of those two, I'm not seeing anything that warrants any real complaints. Lots of hand wringing from idiots too stupid to comment intelligently on anything serious (the View, Rachel Maddow, and the like), but nothing tangible.
Pete Hegseth - great guy, great patriot - but zero experience running any size organization, let alone one with near a trillion-dollar budget and hundreds of thousands of employees.

Which is the way it should be. We have three parts of the government for checks and balance of power. Should not bypass one of them.

One thing that Republican Senators need to worry about. Elon Musk has threatened to fund challengers to any who vote to go against President Trump's agenda.

Elon's wealth makes George Soros look like the squeegee guy on the corner in Austin, TX.

Yes, concentration camps from Trump. Obama going to take all our guns. Biden is going to make us buy electric cars...

Stir that tea with your conspiracy theory spoon, it is delicious. My palm reader and horoscopes tell me what to expect from each new president. The presidents are clearly the crazy ones.
