That’s a bummer. I kind of expected it, but still.
Agreed, Tom. Was hoping they just decided to do it back then and get the ball rolling but yes, always felt like it would go this way.Definitely a bummer. But while I was hoping for the best, and it appeared that he was making progress before the recent reoccurrence, since the shutdown in spring training I've kind of been expecting this would be the end result.
Here's wishing him the best in his evaluation, and the surgery and rehab.
Timely hitting would help too. Through six innings tonight, they're 1-6 with RISP with 10 LOB.Phillies need good starting pitching
What did you say? Back to Back HRTimely hitting would help too. Through six innings tonight, they're 1-6 with RISP with 10 LOB.
I said timely hitting would help. It has. What did you say? Back to Back HR
A billion dollar offense should not be shut out as often as this one is !Phillies offense really stinks. Same lame crap every year. Pitching overperforms and hitting underperforms.
Crap defense wouldn't matter if the offense were not totally inept.
The loss tonight, 1-0, was on this play and it wasn’t even scored an error, so Wheeler gets the loss. Pathetic effort.
Wheeler pitched well enough to win. The Phil's D was excellent, except for the play that resulted in the Guardian's run. Alas, the Phil's O was impotent, though the Guardian's starter really was effective with his breaking balls. (The home plate ump absolutely blew a call late in the game, where he ruled that Schwarber had fouled off a ball (with 2 strikes) that the catcher caught. Schwarber acted like he hadn't touched the ball (he checked on the swing), and replay clearly showed that the ball was never close to the bat. Frustrating loss.
The ump hosed Schwarber on the first two pitches so he continued the screw job. Why wouldn’t Thomson challenge that call, or is that one you can’t challenge? That ump needs to be sent to Little League. He sucked.
So the lousy umpiring explains why the Phillies didn’t score with the other 26 outs? The ump hosed Schwarber on the first two pitches so he continued the screw job. Why wouldn’t Thomson challenge that call, or is that one you can’t challenge? That ump needs to be sent to Little League. He sucked.
good grief. Kimbrel has not blown a save all season. And with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, Fry jumps all over a fastball and hits it out to tie the game, 4-4. smh
No one is perfect. Phils should be ecstatic about the way Kimbrel has pitched this year.
It can partially because it puts batters at a disadvantage with strike calls not actually in the strike zone.So the lousy umpiring explains why the Phillies didn’t score with the other 26 outs?
how was that dropped ball not challenged by topper??
puzzling, for sure.
I agree, but the bigger issue is they didn't have a challenge left which means what difference does it make if they had the angle or not because you have to ask and be granted it to get it reviewed and what is the harm in just asking with how close that play was?Thomson “claims” they didn’t get a replay within the ten second time frame, yet Schwarber, who was on deck, yells into the dugout that it was dropped.
Was having this exact argument with a friend last night. I truly don't understand the lineup but just have toa assume it's analytics based and more or less force fed to him with little wiggle room. Maybe not but that seems likely. And, while Thomson does make some odd decisions at times, to your point, he can't make those guys hits with runners on, not strike out on horrible pitches, and. boot routine plays in the field.Anyone can complain but when you consider where the payroll is spent, you have Turner, JT, Rhys being under performers while Bryce and Schwarber are having funky years. That’s $100m +. Face it, if those guys finish like they have posted through 100 games, it doesnt matter what Topper does or doesn’t do.
