The one thing is that The Trop is not an intimidating place to play at even when the Rays are rolling. The Phillies hit them at the perfect time and the only noise the place had for the last three nights was compliments of the Phillies faithful. I was hoping for 2 of 3.

They fired some bullets tonight so hopefully Wheeler goes deep Friday. You have to like everything you see. Everyone is contributing and I still believe that Harper and Turner are better in the second half. They play more at home the second half and if they take care of business, CBP will start feeding on itself and make them even tougher.

For me, first half has been -

1- Kevin Long knows what he’s doing. He will get a manager’s job this offseason. He let Stott do it his way in the spring until he saw enough. Long spread him out which has reduced his power a tad but has made him a really good hitter. He’s done a great job with Marsh as well. Bohm has been really good so they have 3 young players who look to be long term foundation pieces. That’s huge.

2- The starters have had ups and downs but they have hit their strides. I have to say that i like Walker. He’s plucky and isn’t happy when you go get him. He competes. I’d like to see a #5 trade but maybe Archer can make that’s decision for them. I saw him pitch a lot in the spring and he seems like a 4A pitcher to me. I don’t believe we see Painter.

3- The pen has been nuts. Remember the DODGERS decision for post season on Kimbrel only for him to rediscover the fountain of youth. They have big arm stacked on top of big arm before Kimbrel. They are built for the post season.

They must wake up wanting to run to the park to play. Let’s get 2 of 3 this weekend and get to the break healthy. This is fun.

Really hurts given that the plan this year was to start building him up so that he could reasonably slot into next year. My guess is that they probably looked towards him pitching 140 innings so that he could ramp up to a full load for 2024. Now his timeline might shift for full time production into 2026. Given their window with Wheeler, JT and even Harper and Turner to a lesser extent, delaying Painter is a gut punch. But it seems that all these kids have TJ surgery and come back even stronger. Get the surgery done sooner than later.

His demeanor will help as his recovery and road back will be just as much mental as physical. This just became the long game with Painter.

That would be fantastic news but they have to get this one right. It makes me nervous given how they handled Seranthony a couple of years ago. They should set a plan that focuses on 24. I’m not sure this year is in the cards

Nola awful today, 3HRs already down 4-0. Marlins 4 hits, a double and 3 HRs. Phillies playing like they are already on the All Star break. They are horrible vs Marlins

From ESPN's MLB Draft Tracker (link below):

Who is Miller? A longtime member of various Team USA youth teams, Miller has drawn comparisons to Donaldson since he was 15. He's viewed as one of the most advanced prep bats in the draft, with bat speed, plus power from the right side and a strong understanding of the strike zone. Two things that may have led some teams to pass on him: He's already 19, so models that favor youth worked against him, and he missed most of the spring with a broken hamate bone, although he did return for pre-draft workouts.

Why the Phillies took him here: Miller has been one of the most well-known players in this class since his mid-teens, winning MVP of the Under Armour High School All-America Game and the 2022 High School Home Run Derby at All-Star Weekend. He has drawn comparisons to Donaldson for both his power swing and ability to draw walks, showing plus power against high-level competition. So how did he fall here? Miller is already 19 years old and was slowed by a hamate bone injury that derailed his senior season this spring. -- Mullen

interesting

i’ll be at the 14th and first game on the 15th - was thinking they would kind of reset after the break
Add another starter and go with a six man rotation. It looks like Nola is spent and Wheeler can use less use. Even Suarez and Walker have had arm issues this year. Everyone would benefit.

So the 2024 schedule was released today.

Hmm, every time I've been in Boston during the summer the Sox have been out of town. Perhaps I should make a trip there next year to see the Phils play.

Play it again Wilbur.

Wilbur Snapp, 83, the only baseball park organist ever officially ousted from a game by an umpire.

He gained national attention the evening of June 25, 1985, when a 22-year-old umpire called an out against Snapp’s beloved Clearwater Phillies in a game against the Osceola Astros. Snapp, agreeing with the crowd’s roar of disapproval, struck up a chorus of “Three Blind Mice.” The young umpire was not amused and threw his arm up, ordering Snapp removed.
Snapp stepped away from his keyboard, but spent the remainder of the game twisting balloons into mice for the delighted fans, who began singing “Three Blind Mice.”

Snapp, a World War II veteran who couldn’t read music, taught himself to play the organ when he ran a music store in Springfield, Ohio. When he retired in 1982, he moved to Florida and played the organ at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater for the major leagues’ spring training and during the summer for minor league teams.

Snapp, who continued as a ballpark organist until the stadium switched to recorded music in 1997, forever after signed autographs as “Wilbur Snapp, Three Blind Mice organist.”

Nice win in 12 innings. I thought they’d blown it after giving up a late 5-3 lead in the 8th, but they gutted one out.

These games start to feel important in mid-July. The wildcard race is tight this year, though Miami and Arizona seem headed in the wrong direction.

As always Tom, you were on top of it. Hoffman was the story Sunday and an even bigger story going forward. No idea how it turns out, but he’s going to get more high leverage chances. Marte and him will shorten games even more . They could be a dominant pen if it breaks right and they have everyone healthy.
