I don't know about that WestSide. As a Pirates fan, naturally I was glad to see the wins the last couple of games. The Phils go to Miami this week and take the series, they should be OK. At least they aren't colossal under performers like the Mets. Still think they'll be in the playoffs.
It’s inexplicable how poorly Turner has played. I’m borderline stunned.

Turner is at 1.4 WAR in 2023. Castellanos is at 0.4. Combined they make $47 million in 2023.

1 WAR costs about $5 million in free agency. So Turner and Castellanos are making $47 million for $9 million worth of WAR production…an ROI of -81%.

I bet if you analyze this expensive roster, it gets even worse! Dombrowski has escaped much of the criticism so far, but roster construction isn’t great here.

Was hoping for more at the deadline but it takes two to tango
I don’t think they had much to trade for an impact veteran right now. Their best path to improvement is getting more from their lineup stars. Harper, Turner and Castellanos continue to be proverbial millstones.

One inning of offense against the Marlins new closer. I'll take it. Phils pitching gave up 11 hits and 4 walks so I'm shocked they only allowed one run. Timely double plays always help.

Have the Phillies lost to Alcantara recently? Seems like they always find a way to win when he pitches. About time for Castellanos!

They have had some luck against him. Including tonight, he's pitched against them 3 times this season. He's 0-1, with 2 no decisions. Last season he started 6 games against them, and was 1-3. His only win, and also his last win against the Fightins, was in April of last season (4/14), when he was credited with a win in a 4-3 victory for the Fish.

Castellanos has been struggling with outside breaking balls of late. It was kind of poetic that it was a breaking ball that he hit for the HR.

Harper and Castellanos sure showed me in the 9th. Let’s hope they can heat up. Turner too.

There really was not much to be had. They were never going to be a player for Max/Verlander and the Cubs pulled back Bellinger. So, you were looking for depth moves.

I think their pickup was really meaningful. Even if Painter had not gotten hurt, they were going to have to at least consider a six man to manage Painter, Wheeler, and Nola. The guy they got is a great fit because he can move to be another piece in the pen if they only go 4 starters in post season. The other important point is that the GM always considers the club house. That was a big consideration in Schwarber. Dombrowski has liked Schwarber forever and I think Lorenzen has been on his radar for awhile. This guy will fit like a glove here.

There are wins and then there are good wins. Last night was one of those. Other than Turner, Nick and Seranthony are waking up feeling really good. I think it was a good day on and off the field yesterday.

Tmac just said something interesting about Castellanos. Apparently, he has a house in Miami. The night the team got to Miami, he stayed in the cage at his house and hit until 1 AM.

It was long thought that he would sign with the Marlins last year and the Fish not pursuing resulted in Jeter pulling the plug on his involvement in Miami. People were tough on Nick last year given the expectations, but he is a guy consumed by the game and works really hard at it. Him hitting at home wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

Why was Kimbrel used last night when he wasn’t originally available? Made no difference as he spit the bit anyway. Just watching you could tell the Phillies we’re doomed to lose this game.

Bullpen and Turner’s fielding let them down when they were needed the most
