Was having this exact argument with a friend last night. I truly don't understand the lineup but just have toa assume it's analytics based and more or less force fed to him with little wiggle room. Maybe not but that seems likely. And, while Thomson does make some odd decisions at times, to your point, he can't make those guys hits with runners on, not strike out on horrible pitches, and. boot routine plays in the field.

I’m certainly not going to blame it all on Thomson - but I feel like he make odd decisions more than “at times”.

Man this team is just a bunch of sad sacks. Their hitting is absolutely atrocious. How is Kevin Long still employed?

Bottom of the lineup saved the win. Schwarber, Turner, and JT playing like mutts and a manager who is too stubborn to do something different. Hey Topper, no s**t those guys need to hit, except they ain’t!! IMO the manager is really killing their chances for a post season return. Maybe the Phillies miss Hoskins more than they know.

Their roster just isn't well constructed. They have 6-7 of the same hitter profile presently. They don't get on base consistently and are not good at manufacturing runs when the ball isn't flying out of the park. When things line up, they go on big winning streaks. When they don't, you get what we've seen for the past week. This is our team for better or worse.

I don't think Turner and Realmuto are going to turn things around this season. Need Castellanos and Harper to get it going soon.

They have more guys that should be DH than any other team. They definitely miss Hoskins and he fits the DH checkbox as much as any. That’s the reality of the situation and looking to fire the manager that took them to a World Series less than a year ago when they had no business being there is sooo Philly.

Harper seems to be hitting his groove since he’s back in the field and Realmuto will be fine. Castellanos is too good to stay down long. Turner may be another story but I see he’s getting rested tonight. With the Pirates coming to town the Phillies are about to open up their offense and start winning some games by 8-4 scores. Look for some Schwarberbombs.

The time has come, regardless of the trade deadline, for this team to put the pedal down. The dog days of August are upon them, and as noted above, the schedule is very friendly for the upcoming 2-3 weeks. Put the hammer down and lock up the top wild card spot and start to make up ground on the Bravos. If they can pull within 5 games by 9/1, then who knows?

The team was built for October baseball. Just get in, but hopefully by a much more comfortable margin that 2022.

Aaron Nola can’t move on from Philly fast enough. He’s barely replacement value this year. The Phils can replace his production for way less than he wants and likely what they had originally offered him.

He is good for 3 innings then all downhill....like now.

What a shitshow of a game. Nola not sharp against one of the worst offenses in baseball. The defense blows. The offense blows, one inning aside. It'd be nice to have a stress free blowout of a team they should beat most times.

That 6th inning is a perfect summary of this team. Bases loaded, no outs and they get a single run.

Castellanos strikes out on three pitches to strand three runners. Thomson pinch hits Rojas who also strikes out on three pitches.

SMH.

Castellanos and Turner are just horrible right now. Useless at the plate. Both of their swings look pathetic.

And scene. Top of the 9th. Down one. First and third. One out.

Realmuto grounds into a double play to end it. This happens when you have little clutch hitting.

Castellanos has been bad even before the all star break. Turner, Yeesh!

Turner and Castellanos need to sit for a while they suck. Turner assists with another key error in the bottom of the seventh that allows a hit and then Rojas bobbles it and Pirates score. This team is just frustratingly inept. To top it off, Topper takes out Sanchez who had a no hitter, and Dominguez gives up a game tying two run homer.

The team we are seeing right now isn’t close to a playoff team. They’re in trouble.
I don't know about that WestSide. As a Pirates fan, naturally I was glad to see the wins the last couple of games. The Phils go to Miami this week and take the series, they should be OK. At least they aren't colossal under performers like the Mets. Still think they'll be in the playoffs.

I was a frustrated fan last night. Today I was laughing because my frustration was burned up. Even little league players are disciplined enough to not make some of these same mistakes.

The team we saw this weekend is not a playoff team. Now, if they right themselves, then it’s a different story.
