I'm usually cautious about taking any opponent too lightly, but I might have to make an exception in the case of Florida. They are kind of a mess right now. They have 3 conference victories: against Vandy at home, an two wins against A&M minus Janiah Barker. Things aren't trending well not that they're facing the upper level teams in the conference. Their last 3 games were losses by -26, -17, -26. They play us tonight, LSU Sunday and Bama to finish the regular season. Yeah, not looking good.

The Gators really emphasize pace. They are second in the conference to Arkansas in that category. Last year they were getting a lot of easy transition points. Not this year. They usually end up running a half-court offense and they are really bad at it. Seriously bad. Last year they had Kiki Smith, who could break down a defense. No one on their current roaster can break down a defender in the half court, so they end up settling for a ton of 3 pointers. But their 3 point shooting percentage is less than ours and they don't offensive rebound well. So they end up with a lot of empty possessions. Tight man2man defense gives them a lot of trouble. So, yeah, they will probably struggle to score tonight.

It will be interesting to see Raven when she comes in. Increased pace, which Florida likes to push, seems to fall right into her wheelhouse. She's coming off a good performance against LSU, so hopefully she can build on it.

That play happened right in front of my section. It was priceless to see how tickled Beal was and how flustered/insane/embarrassed/owned Poole was
I need to apologize to that player. In a previous post I likened her to a bowling ball. That is out of character for me as I do not like to criticize appearances. I know she is trying her best but her body is not like one would normally associate with basketball. That having been said, the fact that she is one of the first players off the bench for LSU highlights the fact that they are sorely lacking depth. I don't see them going very far in the tournament....

HerHoopStats rates 135 SEC players for conference play. Her Player Efficiency Rating is 117. Near the bottom. Mostly due to her offense: she can't shoot and turns the ball over too much.

She's 6th on the team in minutes!

Obviously she must bring some kind of intangible for them to be 11-1 in conference. I agree they are unlikely to go far in the tournament. It really doesn't say anything good about our league that they have such an impressive conference record.

See, that right there is how I still feel and always will - the residue of ACC rivalry-consciousness. There will be vestiges of it for as long as anyone of my vintage is still alive. Lord, I miss it so.
I'm probably 10 years younger than you, and I miss it too.

What I miss is the ACC we left, not the bloated mess it has become.

Your politeness is noted. There are several players I can think of (Ashley Owusu) who appear out of shape but are very fit. Kateri Poole is not a D1 conditioned BB player. She was brought in to be the starter at PG. Just can’t do it, slow with no stamina. That is why Morris at point. The disturbing thing is, that she is a senior.

If we had not left, who's to say it wouldn't have developed along different lines? At any rate, I don't lament being in the SEC, although we have no natural rivals in the SEC. But that 20 years in Purgatory was historically tragic. It was exceedingly sad for the Gamecock fans who died during that time, with that abyss as their final memory. No, Joe Morrison doesn't make up for that. It was tragic for him, too. We were in the wilderness.

Indeed, the ACC undoubtedly would have expanded, and would have looked much like it does today had we stayed in, i.e., the league would have poached the old Big East. And who knows, us or Clemron might have left for the SEC. Or Georgia Tech may have gone back to the SEC instead of joining the ACC.

But as you indicated in a previous thread, conference expansion is the wave of the present and future; natural rivalries become irrelevant.

But a massive one is about to be renewed in the SEC, and a couple of significant ones.

And one broken up, i.e., Oklahoma and OSU.
That's up to them. If we can play UPC and Georgia can play Georgia Tech, other cases where rivals were once in the same conference, then those two can play each other. It's a matter of will.

Like Texas and Texas A&M? Like LSU and Tulane?

The offense last night was humming in the 1st quarter. 29 points. Brea and Zia have never played better on offense. Fletcher only took 1 shot because she was able to be a distributor and didn't need to score.

2nd half was a bit of a wash with coach giving the back end of the bench a lot of minutes.

What amazes me is how many schools in the ACC are in the top 25 versus the SEC schools. Here's hoping we get ACC/SEC matchups in the NCAA tournament. I hope UNC gets knocked out in the first round. The one team I will pull for in the tournament from the ACC is VaTech...

Tell you what, while I usually concern myself with the SEC versus other conferences, all I want this year is a route to the top for us. This is a historically good team that must win the national championship to cement its legacy. I'm not thinking about anything else.

If you can spare the time, go and watch a couple of Geno’s recent PRE game media pressers on YouTube. Tell me what you think

Destiny Littleton missed a 3 against Stanford with a chance send the game into OT. It was a road game and the Trojans were without their best player, so an impressive showing.

Stanford still not putting it altogether.
I didn't even realize they were playing yesterday. That fact they didn't even score 100 points combined.

Kitts seems to be showing her youth - very tentative and unsure of herself on offense and defense. Was hoping to see a little spark from her when she gets on the court.

They play UCLA on Sunday; end the reg season next weekend @ Colorado and @ Utah. They really needed that win over SoCal, ugly as it was.

Wow! Probably a lot too much for this board in general. When she calls Geno, “a sore A$$ loser” well she was correct.

The invective she heaped upon him earlier was over the line and as far as I know untrue. But she is playing the role of provocateur and the point of male coaches in WBB has been rife with issues from day one in the sport

Geno in his presser before the Villanova game was asked to respond to the news that UCONN had 8 players made Dean’s list/honor roll. He lauded his players and their hard work, as he should have. He then kinda went Angry Old Guy get off my lawn. Our players do the right thing, they are not worried about NIL deals. They are here to play ball and get an education. A little Daboish and sanctimonious considering Bueckers and Fudd have two of the largest NIL deals in WBB.

and once we get to ncaa play you will likely not see her at all, as at that juncture the coach turns to proven vets.
it is well too early to make a decision on kitts. she does have the advantage of being 6;2" has good form on her shots and can handle the ball pretty well....her experience will pay off next year but this time of the season approaching is old hands on deck.
more minutes for starters...not much for kitts but her time will come

Really wished she had red shirted. So many talented high school players have no idea of the step up in competition. Kitts came into a very deep talented group. She definitely needs to get in the weight room and get stronger. I think she has the potential to get a lot on playing time next season but will really need to put in the work.

I agree on the redshirt. It would have made more sense in the long run.

I can see Kiits, Thompson, etc. playing in garbage time in the first couple of games. However, I agree with you starting with the sweet 16.

Wouldn't mind knocking UnCarolina out again ourselves.

UNC = University of Northern Colorado.

12 minutes of playing time for Saxton, ZERO rebounds.

Boston only played 9 minutes. Amihere, 3 minutes.

WTF?

I don't think you leave high school early and join the team at midseason to burn a redshirt that first year.
