Just saw this come out a few minutes ago

I can confirm @InsiderExposure’s report that assistant coach Winston Gandy is leaving Duke’s staff, per multiple sources. He is expected to accept a job with South Carolina. #ncaaW

I read up on him and seems like a real good get for staff. Good recruiter also.

My personal ranking of players fit for this team.
1. Paopao (scoring, experience, assists)
2. Morrow (a force on both sides)
3. Taylor (a defensive force, Beal like)
4. Betts (6'7 and decent touch)
5. Day-Wilson (fearless)

I would take 1 post and 1 guard from this group.
Betts has 3 years of eligibilty left, so she might be #1 on my list.

However, Taylor gets us closer to another Final Four this coming season than anyone else imo. Brea ended up getting picked 23? 24? Taylor would have been drafted higher than that had she entered the draft, for whatever that's worth. We can pencil her in as a starter.

Nothing against Betts but I found her kind of slow and with players such as Raven, Feagin and Fuliwiley I just think fit wise she may not be the most ideal. Also it will be hard to get a Stanford student to not go to another top academic school.

I like Taylor she plays defense with the right intensity but she shot worse than Beal this past season. She's a willing shooter but her AST/TO ratio needs to improve, I'm not so sure she wouldn't have suffered this fate give how much this draft was dictated by offense this year.

Paopao is my #1 because she only has 1-2 years of eligibility left, she shoots at 40%+ from the 3, a great FT shooter and takes care of the ball well. She's a real shooter and her with Raven could be a great pair for PG duties.

I would take Taylor over Brea on the offensive end, regardless of shooting %. She was Duke's leading scorer and thus asked to do a lot more than Brea. There were a lot of wide open shots for BB.

More importantly, though, Taylor is more proven on offense and defense than any other perimeter player on the current roster.

Celeste Taylor’s all around skill set reminds me more of Tiffany Mitchell than Beal. She would be an awesome get. Still I think I would prefer Paopao particularly if we can get Morrow, as she has some skills that could allow her to play some at wing.

Morrow's player efficiency rating was 33.8 last season.

Sania Feagin's rating was 34.0.

How can anyone say with confidence that Feagin wouldn't put up monster numbers at DePaul last season? Who could say Morrow would have seen significant minutes last season at USC?

After all, the 8th player selected in the WNBA draft was 8th on the team in minutes last season. 8th!

Playing time wasn't about performance or even potential last season, unfortunately. I guess that would have been OK if we had won it all. But we didn't AND we lost out on developing our young low post players.

So Morrow is way down on my list. But the transfer portal isn't free agency; we could stockpile quality players at the same position without limit. I would prefer using the portal more judiciously to address weaknesses.

Many posters look at the portal and our existing roster through the wrong lens. They are “insiders” who view the roster as broken and in need of saving.

While young and unknown to some extent. We have a final four roster already. We don’t need to be fixed. Tweaked and have seasoned depth added? definitely!

Feagin/Watkins are a prime example. They will probably give us at least 20/12 from the 4 spot next year. Could Morrow give us those numbers next year? Sure! Can she do it in a way that enhances TEAM? She will have to make sacrifices to her individual game if she comes here.

That stat is misleading especially when you consider the sample size of how much they have each played and when they play during the games. I mean Morrow has been on the top of the scouting report the past two years and even undersized she still managed to led her team in pts, rebounds, steals and blocks.

DePaul was a better team last season and Morrow's PER was 41. So whose to say she won't thrive on a team with actual help. The prospect of Morrow intrigues me because she has a lot of in game experience and has faced a lot of pressure that much on our team have yet to experience. A player like her would be great to help bridge the gap as players like Feagin/Watkins take a bigger role.

Morrow's PER was 41.2 her freshman year, according to HerHoopStats. It was 33.8 last season. A significant drop off from her freshman season. Mainly because she only shot 42% from the field. She lead the nation in FG attempts, so she still scored but she was less efficient.

DePaul lost some their perimeter shooting from her freshman year, which could explain the dip. It also could explain why she is transferring.

As far as Feagin's PER being misleading, I can't say that personally. She was the 4th ranked player in her class, made Team USA U19 and when she did get some minutes, she shot 60% from the field and blocked shots at an impressive rate. She performed well in the minutes she was given. That's all she could do. It's a shame she didn't get more of an opportunity.

I'm not sure about Morrow bridging the gap since Feagin and Morrow are in the same class. More than anything, Sania and Watkins need playing time.

But if they are alright with sharing playing time and not transferring, then it couldn't hurt to add another quality low post player. I have to wonder, though, if Morrow is OK with going from leading the nation in FG attempts to playing 20 minutes a game. Or maybe that's exactly what she's looking for. We'll see.

I see Morrow in a similar lens of Rhyne Howard, a great player on a subpar poor team. Her 33.8 PER was still good enough for 32 in the nation and her PER*Minutes was 5th in the nation and that's with a large sample size. She's done well and has been highly productive, but her team was really poor.

If she's wants to win and play for Dawn she like everyone else knows you'll have to sacrifice some self glory to do it. So I can see her being a 3/4 tweener here and playing anywhere from 20-25 minutes. Similar to what Rickea had to experience when she transferred to Tennessee.

Personally I am very high on Feagin and think she can do great things, but it will be a lot to ask a player who has only 8 minutes a game, largely in garbage time to contribute at an elite level for 30-40 minutes a game for a team with Final Four aspirations. I just think they could use some more experienced help so that the burden isn't as much for her and Watkins.

Would love to have Morrow, Day-Wilson and Taylor's from Duke. Of course these players minutes will be limited compared to time played on their previous team. These players could help, but Feagan and Watkins can hold their own.

Morrow's value in addition to rebounding will be at the three. She has a deadly 15 foot shot facing the basket which is where she got a lot of her points. She gives you that 3 or hybrid 4 that can hit open jumpers out to 18 ft without giving up toughness like Alisha Gray. Because of her height at 6'1 she needs to grow that part of her game to the three to enhance her pro prospects. This will leave plenty of area for Feagin and Watkins to man the 4 position and one to back up Cardoza at the 5. Dawn does not bring in any transfer before getting a nod from the present players as she has stated numerous so I think we will be good in that Dept.

I'm ready to see some dynamic personnel developments. All this speculation is making my head hurt. I feel some auspicious things coming.

In recruiting news, Kate Koval, Center from NYC is now ranked #3 by ESPN Gurlz Hoops...

Boston was #3 in her class...maybe this is a sign. I sure hope Dawn gets her.

Does anyone have any idea if Koval has visited SC or has a visit planned to SC?
