I did not catch the prelims/qualifying but there were 19 to start in the finals instead of 12. You could see a huge gap between the top competitors and the rest. Some comical scratches once they jumped from 4.40 to 4.60m

USA's Katie Moon is guaranteed a medal.
Gold: Nina Kennedy - Australia
Silver: Katie Moon - USA
Bronze: Alysha Newman - Canada

Since no Americans made the Men’s Discus finals, I abandoned my brothers in brawn for Katie Moon’s run in the pole vault.

That being said, here are the discus results.

Gold: Roje Stona, Jamaica, 70.0m (new Olympic record)

Silver: Mykolas Alenka, Lithuania, 69.97m (Alenka’s throw briefly set the new Olympic record until Stona passed it. Alenka is also the current world record holder at 74.35m)

Bronze: Matthew Denny, Australia, 69.31m

Jamaica had three in the final twelve and this was Jamaica’s first gold medal of the games and their first Olympic medal of any kind in the discus.

I posted earlier today about the USA winning gold in this event. Here's a clip of the race, as well as video of the play-by-play announcer and the color analyst.

Pray that Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma, current world record holder in the steeplechase, is ok and recovers quickly from the nasty fall in that same Rooks clip...

Yeah, pre-race analysis was that Girma was one of the co-favorites for the gold. That was a nasty fall, and left him parallel with the hurdle, just in the landing zone.

I just saw a clip on NBC stating that he is recovering well at a hospital.

Men’s beach volleyball replay on USA right now. U.S. vs. “Qatar”. The two guys for Qatar aren’t from Qatar. They were recruited from other countries. For f*ck’s sake.

Kinda like Man City, eh? Or the tall guy Leon, for Poland’s volleyball team. His last name doesn’t end in “ski” or consonants! 😁

Our friend’s son swims tomorrow at 1:30 am EST in the 10k race in the Seine. It’s only on Peacock. Guess I’ll be up late! Ivan Puskovitch is his name.

The 4x100 relay is too short to overcome major issues with the exchanges.
