Hey Franklin haters, is a playoff game a big game? Win or go home. Elimination. Season ends.

It’s drivel because you kept making a case that is 1+1 =4
And I do not agree that “constantly criticizing” is pointing out his record against top competition has been lacking (to say the least)…certainly as compared to Joe (but to be fair, Joe was the best) but against most blueblood programs.

Advancing to Championship game would do a lot to begin to erase this well-earned reputation.

Joe was around a long time.

Even in his declining years he won a few big games - even on the road. Franklin? Zero. And I would assume this is Franklin’s prime?

During Joe’s prime? Franklin would have been a grad assistant level in comparison.

Maybe this will change this year?

Charlie Brown also thought Lucy would let him kick the ball…

Ain’t going to get any easier as college football continues to morph into NFL minor leagues. Then football strategy will reign supreme.

Ever think why you never hear Franklin’s name come up for NFL jobs? Ever offered a Head Coach/GM/partial ownership?

Yeah…that’s what I thought…
In his last 6 years, he was 1-8 against top 10 opponents, so where were those big games?

He also did not take over a program with a foundation as good as any - ever.
That’s a massive stretch. He came in two years after the program was hit with the worst ever sanctions besides SMU in NCAA history.

1-10 vs OSU will be difficult to erase but a win over blue blood ND or GA would certainly help.

But let's beat Boise first.

My opinion on what Franklin inherited:
  • BOB inherited a very strong roster even after Freeh agency. In fact I believe PSU would have won the BiG in 2012 if not for Freeh agency (Fortt, Fera, Brown, Redd).
  • Franklin inherited a roster that was severely depleted due to 2 years of sanctions. so those 7-6 seasons shouldn't be held against him.
  • That said, sanctions had been reversed and this was still Penn State. Facilities, money, history, fan base, etc. remained intact so Franklin walked in at a pretty good time to pick a blue blood team up off the floor.
  • I totally disagree with those who say Paterno inherited a powerhouse program on the rise but Franklin inherited a program that was dead in the water.

Franklin inherited a team that was only dressing 40 something scholarship players in away games at times. Even the 2016 team still had converted DL playing OL out of necessity. Those sanctions stung for longer than the actual duration of them. The facilities were far outdated as evidenced by both BO’B and JF’s public request to update things as soon as they took over. And both BO’B and JF walking into a fractured fanbase, that still continues to a certain extent.

remember how depleted our LB's were in 2016? a couple injuries and then in the Michigan game Brandon Smith gets ejected for the worst targeting call in the history of targeting calls

that was walk on fullback turned linebacker Brandon Smith by the way

Didn't he also only have 7 or 9 scholarship OL at the time? 2-3 were barely D1 OL as well. People love to rewrite history, but OB and JF had to do a lot of heavy lifting to get this program to even inch further along. Coaches pay to be competitive, new weightroom, facility upgrades, recruiting budgets....so much they had to fight for. Hell people here on this site are still are proud of not helping the program because their little idol got damaged.....not due to the current HC's or players, but the BoT and other folks. The odd ones are the ones that brag about doing this and then complain about PSU not being elite or competing better with the schools that acutally do back their programs 100%.

Beating Boise (11 pt fav) doesn’t move the bar. Beating uga/nd absolutely moves the coach ricks bar. Today we win 45-14.

Making the national semis absolutely moves the bar....to say otherwise is foolish. We don't pick who we play. This notion that making it to the final 4 as a favorite means nothing is a joke. The same idiots don't care about any game PSU is favored in as those W's don't count...only the losses to top 5 teams do. GTFOH already with this BS. Again the simple fact this HC has idiots like the RICKER saying MNC or bust means he is doing his job....they are just too slow to figure it out. If Boise pulls off the upset...then all of a sudden that game counts....must be nice to talk out of both sides of your mouth.

PSU football attendance for 2012 took a slight hit but was still 5th in the country. Attendance totally rebounded by 2014.

I understand that a number of teams had passed PSU wrt facilities but this article still had PSU #13 in the country when Franklin took over.

Franklin inherited a depleted roster when he took over but it's not like the facilities and fanbase were bottom of the barrel. Far from it.

Boise would be a top 10 win and it would virtually guarantee Franklin's first top 5 finish. I think it definitely moves the bar. Just not as much as beating a blue blood like ND or GA.

We’re 11 point favs. Coach always (97%) beats teams he’s supposed to. You think he beats O or OSU tonight if that’s how it played out? I def don’t.

Big game Jim would not beat OSU or O today, agree or disagree? We got a peachy seeding, agree or disagree? Who we beat and who we never beat DOES matter. Losing to Boise today is like losing to minn a few years ago. Stacking blue hen wins DOES NOT MATTER

Lion Jim, what is it?
1-10 means you win 1 game out of 11. Therefore 1/11 =0.0909, 9.09%. Same thing with 4-17, 21 games played, 4/21=0.19, 19%. You absolutely could have figured this out yourself if you gave it two minutes thought (think baseball). And really, shame on you for making up 4-17 is 8%, 1-10 is 13%. Part of being a functioning adult is being aware of what you don’t know. Don’t contribute to the BS epidemic in our society.

LOL...was the the left side or right side? When we pay like tOSU or Oregon and have stacked 4-5 star skill talent I think we should expect to beat them more...they are more talented than this PSU team. There is no Taz on this squad or anything remotely close to the OSU's WR group. So now it's just down to 2 teams where the W's count...moving that line. LOL....you're an absolute clown that is so easy to spin up.

Keep moving your line Blue Hen toolboy. I just love spinning your dumb arse around and around....you actively **** on the team your root for, don't look at the real reasons why, and are too naive to understand any of it I guess....including basic math percentages.

When is the last time PSU lost to a team outside of the top 5 or as a favorite? Pretty bad coaching going on here. Woe is you and PSU.

If you think Franklin walked into the ideal situation to succeed, then I’ve got nothing else for the discussion.

This would actually be different than baseball if you’re talking about batting averages, right? 3-4 would be hitting .750, not .429.

I did answer the question yo...you're a brick and cannot decipher it. They are more talented than PSU and would be favored over PSU by a TD+. In fact tOSU is currently the betting favorite to win the whole thing. Are you really this stupid or is it an act?

We should go out and get an up and comer like DeBoer. He's literally (Bowl game) in the process of dismantling everything Saban put together in less than a year at Alabama. You know, the school with unlimited funds for their football team.

I know you're trying to be a heel like Roddy Piper, but its coming off like you're one of the Bushwhackers.

Doing the same thing over and over (ie 4-17) and expecting a diff result (ie a natty) is insanity. There are TONS of young super smart O geniuses toiling in anonymity, we should go find one. I’m fine if you disagree, playing it a safe works for some guys, I get it.

if seeded today vs O or OSU, do we advance today? (history says big game Jim can’t)
