Grand Slam.....one of Barney's prized detectives
A simple-minded observation: Without significant portal help PSU is looking at a mediocre-at-best 23-24 season, around 13-15 wins. The new coach will need two-three years to get back to 68.
Shut it down now. Save us all a lot of heartache.
We are not, never have been, and never will be a basketball school. Just face reality and relax.
Good article by by Jon Crispin concerning the challenges Penn State faces with the MBB.....LJ, I thought I was an optimistic person, you just blew me away. Without portal help or some last minute shocking recruiting, I doubt they could get to 10 wins. I hope I’m wrong and you are right!
Their is no one that could better comment on bailing on Penn State than Jon Crispin. It's certainly easier to bail out rather than be the guy that builds tradition.Good article by by Jon Crispin concerning the challenges Penn State faces with the MBB.....
Micah Shrewsberry: Former Player Can't See HC Staying | NSN
Fans of Micah Shrewsberry and Penn State basketball don't have much to be pessimistic about right now. The team is in the NCAA Tournamentnittanysportsnow.com
You are comparing Penn State basketball to Georgetown basketball? The Patrick Ewing "buzz" did wonders for Georgetown.
Lifetime Hoya here. Right now PSU is a better program than Georgetown if you take away the fact that Georgetown has already found their coach. You are comparing Penn State basketball to Georgetown basketball?

Yes, those reportedly "lucrative salary offers" were really $4.09 and all of the ice cream the Shrewsberry family could eat at the Creamery.
Thanks for the heads up Art, never fail to surprise.
Posted this article i found in another thread, thought it was good. After reading Barry's post ( #23 in the Calvin wants out thread ) about the extra mile in spending Penn State would go if Shrew stayed; Crispin got it wrong...
"With every big Penn State basketball win comes calls for first-year athletic director Pat Kraft to pay Shrewsberry whatever it would take to keep him around.
Crispin isn’t sure if this is plausible. As he pointed out, Penn State hasn’t shown a willingness to pay a basketball coach big money.
“And this is not a knock; this is just a reality because the value in basketball hasn’t always been there,” Crispin sai"
Wait. All the ice cream ?!?!Yes, those reportedly "lucrative salary offers" were really $4.09 and all of the ice cream the Shrewsberry family could eat at the Creamery.

Well he did. So I am glad he is gone. We simply cannot have this malfeasance on our campus. What kind of a$$hole turns down Creamery ice cream?
I liked and appreciated the posts from you and Barry concerning the plausible impact of money dumped into the male basketball program, really interesting.

Put a better product on the court and they will comeRaise ticket prices. Problem solved.

“Where are we”….Nate Bauer’s fine article details PSU administration’s smug, slow walk with Coach Shrews. We had the real deal, but lacked the common sense, foresight and K S A to get the job done. “Where are we”….,in a world of hurt…So where are we? It’s been a few days. Where‘s the new coach? We need someone now to secure all those DIAPER. DANDIES. that we’ve become accustomed to at PSU. Time is short.
Hey Acho… you have any idea how much $$$ PSU was willing to pony up for Shrews? The report was that the powers that be were willing to double his salary… what would it have been?“Where are we”….Nate Bauer’s fine article details PSU administration’s smug, slow walk with Coach Shrews. Read Bauer’s article….much, much more than coach’s salary. Heck, if NIL would have been addressed last August, we would have had a top 15 class and we would still have the coach who recruited them….Hey Acho… you have any idea how much $$$ PSU was willing to pony up for Shrews? Buy the 76ers and put them in BJCThey didn't this last season.
So PSU was paying more than 4 million a year?Read Bauer’s article….much, much more than coach’s salary. Heck, if NIL would have been addressed last August, we would have had a top 15 class and we would still have the coach who recruited them….
Probably a good thing for ND and Coach Shrewsberry that the op-ed penned by Father Joyce and Jack Swarbrick came out after ND had locked up Coach Shrewsberry. I'm sure the timing of the op-ed's release had nothing to do with the status of the contract negotiations.Read Bauer’s article….much, much more than coach’s salary. Might be a good idea if Nate Bauer arranged an interview with Pat Kraft regarding the status of PSU's NIL undertakings. Chances of it happening?Jay issued a statement regarding the NIL which refuted what was alleged regarding the lack of funding for the basketball program. He claimed the false information put out there was harming the program and the search for the new coach.
Based on the activity of PSU BOT and administration over the past 12+ years, do you really expect Kraft to provide honest answers?Might be a good idea if Nate Bauer arranged an interview with Pat Kraft regarding the status of PSU's NIL undertakings. Chances of it happening?
Yeah, I do.Based on the activity of PSU BOT and administration over the past 12+ years, do you really expect Kraft to provide honest answers?
Unlikely to have any effect.I want some of what you’re smoking…
And he pulls about $3.5mm p.a. which probably makes him too expensive.

I'm not down with poaching a head coach from a school that will be joining the B1G next year. Look @ the bad blood now between Providence and Georgetown after G-Town poached the Providence coach.
I'm all in for our football staff to poach a good player especially a DT from ND, just to draw the line and make a statement in one shot. I know it's apples and oranges but they'd get the point.I'm not down with poaching a head coach from a school that will be joining the B1G next year. I heard the rumor yes. No clue if true, according to his bio the record isn’t great but the recruits have been.I got a text from a friend who said it's going to be the OK State coach. Boy Ron? Says he saw in this website.
Anyone else?

Personally … I want a winning hoops program. If that means hiring away a coach or offering a recruit/ player a better NIL deal … so be it.I'm not down with poaching a head coach from a school that will be joining the B1G next year.
