Amends to the Alumni for reconcilliation....1) Formal apology to JVP, family, all of football staff for the accusations of football first and only culture. 2) Restore Statue and presentation with plaque apologizing by BOT for using a gifted piece of art as a symbol of JVP poor culture 3) Removal of Rodney Erickson name from any building his name is assigned. 4) Removal of ALL BOT MEMBERS that blindly followed the false narrative constructed by Surma, Peetz, Frazier, et al for failing in their fiduciary responsibility to safe guard the values, image, fiscal strength, prestige of the Pennsylvania State University 5) Elimination of guaranteed appointments to BOT from Agriculture and 50% of entire BOT must be elected to a 3 year term. ...BOT size not to exceed 17. 6) Restitution to all alumni in form of official apology letter and $5,000.00 for lost opportunities due to disgrace and perceived value of a PSU degree.
7) Ability to amend reconcilliation requirments.
Soooo . . . removing the plaques of the AA players from the wall was a great move by the BOT, HV!? The players were like 12 years old during the scandal.

Joe Paterno Press Conference Cancelled: PSU Officials Drop the Ball Yet Again

The rumor at the time was that they threatened Joe's pension if he went ahead and spoke anyway. Does anyone know if that was true?

And you believe something like this being made public would or would not open the news cycle again and PSU would be in a better or worse position going forward?

I’m not speaking for anyone or pretending to speak for anyone. I would just guess….based on the fact that JVP built the PSU football program and gave his entire life to it that he would want people to support it.
You seem to have great difficulty separating multiple concepts. This is not about not supporting the football team, it IS about NOT supporting a corrupt BOT and it’s boot lickers, of which you might be one.

So what are you afraid of.....*** wipes calling you a "ped state" grad or fan? No one has ever used words like that to those of us who have attended games away from Beaver LOL. It's not about changing the perception of others. The Ship of Fools made sure that was the permanent narrative. It's about doing the right thing for Sue, Joe and everyone who they **** on in a sloppy effort to protect their own asses and enrich their corporate interests.

If you read the replies here, you will note that it goes far deeper than that. Trust in the institution has been lost--and it has to do with how alumni and fans were treated by the university. At this point, for me, it has little to do with Joe. This issue was something, actually, that began before 2011--see how the STEP program was handled for example. Change likely was needed there, looking back. But the way it came across was insulting--seemingly almost intentionally. There are other examples.

The question was what amends would be needed for me to resume annual contributions.....not what might happen in the media.

I agree, but I don't think Joe cared much one way or the other about football donations. He and SuePa did raise $1B for the library.

We're withholding any contribution because of the lies, slander, self-dealing, and CYA that went on after the Sandusky Scandal blew up. And like somebody already said, the blaming the alumni. Karen Peetz's personal PR firm (paid for by Penn State) told her to repeat: "This will all blow over in 2 or 3 years and no one will remember it.".

The contempt the Board of Trustees has for the alumni is limitless. Just look at the way they treat Barry. And if they think the new grads are going to be coughing up any money it looks like they're wrong there too. They have no loyalty.
Joe and Sue are better people than me.

There will be no reconciliation. Time will pass. Members of the Board of Trustees and Administration will come and go. Eventually, there will be sufficient turnover for a fresh start, but it will be done without mea culpas from anyone. There will be a token honoring of Joe, but the rest of it will pass into history without a mention. Occasionally the ghosts of the past will resurface, but only briefly and with little attention to the details. So be it.
That's life.

If you want to honor Joe,
at Gate B there is a plaque titled:
IN HONOR OF JOE PATERNO’S COACHING CAREER

It is made to look like bricks and there are blank ones.

How does one honor JVP on these bricks? With a sharpie?
Good question, snark aside.
My guess is a call to the NLC asking how to honor him via a brick in that location would give the answer one way or another.
Minimum donation level?
Not open for further donations?
Don't know, but may be worth finding out.
Hard to imagine they would turn down a donation.

Alternative - donate to the Paterno Fellows Program, in support of a worthy student.

I'm sorry Bob. I haven't donated to the university in 11 years. This . . . I'm interested in. Do you have a link? I'd probably give more $$$ than they're asking.

Nope, just want the football program to get the same level of support it did when JVP was coach. Not a huge ask.

There isn’t going to be a huge Honor JVP ceremony, there isn’t going to be a public PC where the BOT apologizes, they aren’t going to name the field after JVP. We all know this and anyone with common sense understands why.
Well, there are consequences for those decisions. If the board wants alumni money then they need to reconsider their decisions. Very simple.

Here’s an idea. Go push the administration to go after the $60 million the B10 stole from PSU.

I don't without looking it up. I don't even know if that is still open for donations. It's been there for many years.
I think a call to the NLC is the right first step to find out what's what.

That was the NCAA fine and most of it wound up in PA.

Well, this conversation is eye opening and disappointing all at the same time. Clearly, 12 years later, the wounds are still deep for many. This also shows how divided we are as an alumni/fan base, which is very unfortunate and isn’t conducive to moving forward. For me, I truly am down the middle. I am disappointed, yes, by how the Sandusky fiasco was handled on numerous levels. From an individual level to the school’s response, to the state/governor’s office level, it was a complete mismanagement. People who probably deserve more blame got away with little to none and, unfortunately, those who took the most public scrutiny, deserved the benefit of the doubt a little more than they got. The fact remains though that it was 12 years ago and, at this point, nothing is going to change what happened. It’s yesterday’s news. I admired Joe for his steadfast commitment to making the young men he coached better people, not just better players(although he was excellent at the latter as well). I also admired his commitment to the academic world through his generosity. I didn’t know Coach Paterno personally, but if you believe him at his word, he never wanted the statue, the field to be named after him, or any of the limelight to be on him. Therefore, you will never hear me advocate for that.

I would ask, at this point, how many of the BOT members that were there in 2011 remain? We know that there aren’t any remaining athletic department members still there. The administration has turned over several times also, no? It has been a complete turnover. In some instances, several times since 2011. Certainly, the student athletes are not culpable, nor were they ever, so we can’t hold the individuals currently there accountable. Therefore, at this point, holding back support from the university or athletic department hurts who? Who is the message supposed to get to?

I find it interesting with PSU's penchant for donations that an opportunity like this has never been publicized....well i have never heard of it. Anyway....most of my involvement now goes into our local Alumni Chapter as we raise money to award 4 scholarships to students from the Augusta area that are attending PSU.

Exactly, it’s not about the team, it is the University leadership. No matter how great Franklin and the team are, there remains a strong possibility the BOT will railroad and destroy Franklin as they did Paterno. People aren’t going to invest knowing that possibility is still there. Not until the BOT fully corrects the mistakes it made.

Not sure, but turnover of the BOT doesn’t excuse past wrongs of the University, and corrections need to be in the form of actions, not platitudes.
Ok. So who at the University is the resentment directed at? The University president has turned over multiple times since 2011. The AD has also and the BOT could be a completely different group of people? By holding people accountable for something that some perceive as a wrong and that they may have had nothing to do with, aren’t we doing the same thing to them and the student body that we may be upset about? I’m just trying to understand how the message is effective and whom it should be directed at specifically? I don’t think any of us routinely apologize for things other people do, so should we expect that from others? What specific “actions” are you looking for?

Does the current BOT disagree with their predecessors? If so, there are a myriad of positive steps they can take. Reject the Freeh Report....plan a day and honor Sue ....just for openers. Their refusal to take action lends the appearance that they are fine with past decisions...or the strings are still being pulled by members of the OGBOT.

Honest question out of ignorance on my part. How many BOT members from 2011 remain a BOT member currently?
Other than the Alumni-elected 9, the OGBOT basically replaced themselves with people who would vote as they would, hold steadfast on the "no apologies to JVP et. al.", etc. approach as they were (ahem) encouraged to do by their appointers. (It is gratifying to hear they did apologize to Spanier, according to Spanier, but that was not made public otherwise. I also suspect that the reconciliation with Sue and the Paterno family may have had a private apology involved, but that is just conjecture on my part).

The OGBOT replaced themselves with carbon copies, little Mini-Mes, voting as a block without any apparent independent thought. The fact that Dambly of all people is still prominent on the BOT lets us all know that the "New Guard" BOT is just the same BOT, different day, than the OGBOT.

Therefore, the argument that it is a new Admin/BOT bringing in a new day holds little water with me. While I have hopes for Neeli and Pat to move the needle in the preferred direction, I don't know how far the BOT will allow their efforts to go without them shutting it down far short of the correct mark. I think they are aware of the fund-raising barrier that was built before their time, and of the lack of effort to take down that barrier, and now it's in their laps to figure it out. The easiest, most practical solution has not be allowed by the NGBOT, and the passage of time has not changed their approach to it.

If I am to be asked to get over it, then I expect they, too, can get over it - especially when they created "IT" - and get a lot closer to a compromise where many of my/our terms and conditions are actually acted on. Then I may resume donating to other PSU areas than NLC/Athletics, Blue Band, and THON.

Until then, no.

So, let me ask this, aren’t there some pro Paterno members who were voted onto the board since 2011? Ask them those questions? Press them on your concerns. Hasn’t Sue made amends with the university? Wasn’t she in a luxury suite with the new president at one of the games this past season? Is Jay promoting the sentiment some here have? He’s on the BOT, right? He seems to be moving forward with the task at hand, no? Just as we would assume his father would want him to? If the Paterno family isn’t pressing the issue here or has privately made amends with it, why the need for a public apology? Is the concern for the Paterno family’s legacy or just for ourselves?

If someone believes that Joe Paterno is owed an apology or recognition for his contributions to PSU, then the current administration has fallen woefully short.

IIRC, Spanier said that some high up at PSU told him that he was mistreated and apologized, but that same person told him that none of that woould be stated publicly. if that's true, and I have my reservations about its veracity, that's all you need to know.

For those who aren't aware....PSU - BOT is comprised of 38 members...36 have voting power.

3 ex-officio state secretaries (Secretary of Education, Ag and Conservation, and Natural Resources)
2 non-voting officio (Governor and University President)
6 appointed by Governor
9 elected by Alumni
6 elected by Ag organization
6 elected by Business and Industry
1 elected by Board representing Student Body
1 elected by Board representing Faculty
1 elected by Board representing Alumni Assosciation
3 elected by Board Members at Large
__________________________________________________________
Total 38 members / 36 voting

Easy to see how Board can be manipulated

For argument sake...i feel 3 ex-officio OUT...6 Governor appointees decrease to 2....6 Ag down to 2....6 B&I down to 2....3 at Large down to 1. This change would give greater voice to Alumni and reduce power of OGBOT to have complete control.

The number doesn't matter. I'm sorry, you probably think your point/stance is relevant, but it's not. The current BOT is in charge now and can do what they want. Brandon Short has been running around telling people the current board knows its current actions are affecting donations. I reiterate, in what business model is it ever a good idea to piss off the paying customers? You can complain its the customers' fault, but you're just ignoring/pretending the real problem.

Sue won't go public and Jay has little clout ...as do the alumni reps in general. I think either you are niave or being disingenuous to suggest that the alumni reps can move the BOT in this matter. Lubrano has been jousting with those windmills for a decade.
